Went to see SuperSize Me last night....

My co-worker eats out 21 meals per week, so I know there are people who do this. She eats donuts or scones for breakfast, Mexican food or burgers for lunch, and a restaurant type dinner. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Never cooks. She also owns a farm and works her butt off every day. She's very thin and muscular. I think it's starting to catch up with her though, because lately she's been complaining of being tired and shaky, etc. :(

Okay, your post has made me want to go out and exercise right now, even in the rain!

Good Morning America had on a woman a few weeks after the movie opened. She too had been on a McDonald's diet. However, she lost weight by choosing and eating sensibly.

If I remember, she would have the egg biscuit, hamburger plain or fish sandwich without the sauce, the salads, the yogurt parfait, etc.

She claims it can be done but you have to choose wisely.

I think even with choosing wisely, there are just too many hidden preservatives, additives, etc.

Also eating 5,ooo cals. a day? Was he able to move at the end of the day? it's also bad for someones psyche to eat like that! I wonder if he got depressed?:(

In the Men's Health article, he mentions feeling depressed when he wasn't eating. Once he got his "fix" he felt fine.

Obviously, we know too much of this type of food is bad, but I think the other point is how quickly it changed his body. It didn't take more than a few days before his blood levels (liver enzyme, cholesterol, etc) along with his weight, were a mess.

I just saw this yesterday and I thought it was fantastic. I DO remember school lunches...pizza, ice cream, french fries, cookies. MANY kids had a french fry only lunch. And I do remember feeling greasy, fat and gross after lunch...but I didn't eat that stuff all the time and I attributed it more to high school itself.

However, we eat organically now and it's amazing the difference. Good food=good mood.

I agree that it's obvious that you would gain weight, etc. on an all-McDonald's diet, but to me the shock came in how fast it happened and what the food actually did to his body in terms of blood tests, etc. As one reviewer put it, "It's one thing to know it's bad for you, but quite another to see the "badness" demonstrated." I agree completely.

Everyone in the theatre enjoyed it as much as we did. It's a very funny film as well as being engrossing.

I won't be catching that one. IMO, it just shows how far people want to go to make their health someone elses responsibility. I choose what I put in my mouth, not McD's. Sure, there may be people who don't know that fast food a couple times a day will be make you fat/sick, but I really don't think they are the type who WANT to know either.

I had the Fiesta Salad for lunch today! It was really good. I forgot to look at the cal and fat count, though. I'm sure it is much better for us than their other stuff!

I'm not really too fanatical about that stuff, but I like to keep a good balance.:sunny:

just looking at the nutritional info on mcdonald's website - minnie, the fiesta salad is 450 calories and 27 grams of fat, that's with the sour cream and salsa, minus both of those toppings and it's 360 calories and 22 grams of fat. A grilled chicken caeser has 200 calories and 6 grams of fat.

I don't think people are dumb enough to think the big mac and fries that they eat are healthy, they just don't care. There are some fairly healthy alternatives at McDonalds, most people just don't choose them.

I think that a lot of it is psychological. It has a lot to do with who we surround ourselves with, and how we live our lives.

Thanks for the info Tykes!:sunny:

McDonald's claimed that there was nothing wrong with their food

Actually, that's not what they said. They said, that when their meals were part of an overall normal diet, and not eaten as often as the girls who tried to sue, then obesity would not be the end result. And you know what, they're right.

As for workers being told to ask about Supersizing. Of course we were told push it. How do you think we got paid? I worked there for around a year after college, and it was Supersize city. Although I will say this. The Supersize i pushed was smaller than the Supersize the company is now phasing out. The large size meals are what were called Supersize when i worked there. Imagine my surprise when I ordered a Supersized meal in the drive-thru 1 day about 6 months after leaving. WHOA!! I'll admit to being a big girl, but even i couldn't handle that Supersize.

I think it's common sense that if you eat junk food, any junk food, for a long period of time, and have that be all you eat, you are going to get sick/gain weight etc.

I still eat McD's once in a while. I mostly eat at home, various things.

I think anything is toxic if you have too much of it. Eating McD's as a treat once in a while is NOT going to kill anyone.

Well I know some parents that stop at the drive thru just about every day and throw some burger/taco/etc down their kids throats. It is darn scary. A doctor in the Men's Health article said you should have fast food ONCE a month. Just becuase someone who eats a lot of this crap "looks" good does not mean they are healthy. I would love to have a peek at their bloodwork.

I saw the movie today and I really enjoyed it.
