We put in, and had accepted, an offer on our first DVC property! 50 points, plus 50 banked, at SSR. Paperwork goes in today to Disney for ROFR. I am giddy still! Annnnnd I am already planning for our second purchase to add on. Ha!

Stop the madness! :-)

Take some time to learn the system and the resorts before deciding on your next purchase.

I completely agree. Get a trip under your belt or two. Figure out what you like and don't like.

Congrats! We bought our first contract direct at BLT in 2009. It worked so well for our family that we have quadrupled our points since then via resale. Our kids got older, wanted to take friends, family, etc. I would not trade anything for the memories!

We paid cash for all of them, and the MF's are not a burden. In addition to many, many stays at WDW, We have been to DL three times and in the process of planning an Aulani trip. We travel other places too, but this is always a vacation we can count on if we have years that we don't have a vacation "budget". Drive down, no parks, cook in the villa, enjoy the resort(s)!

Buying only 50 points a couple of times isn't madness IMO. Because unless you plan to travel to WDW only every other year, 50 points will not go very far at most of the resorts unless you are lucky enough to get standard view at BWV/BLT, a value room at AKV-Jambo House or stay only at OKW. And you pretty much have to be an owner at BWV and BLT to get the cheaper rooms during Food&Wine.

To the OP good luck on ROFR!

I think there's often a bit of a let down once you finally find and decide to make that first purchase and then are no longer on the hunt. I believe that is all that Bill meant about stepping back and waiting.

Now with the standard view category at SSR a 50 point contract will get a studio for a week every other year on all but premier season. That can be an excellent use of DVC. And if someone only wants a weekend or two now and then 50 points will work just fine. OP really didn't provide enough info of why they are "addicted" but is certainly excited over their purchase experience. :goodvibes

With my husbands work schedule our trips will always be short ones. Two 50
point contracts would get us two short trips a year and that's perfect for us!

And if you've only been going for a week every other year, and staying in moderates or values - and the fifty points for DVC is about what you can afford - its awesome. You don't want to get caught up in the excitement of the hunt, the excitement of frequent Disney trips, and discover yourself the owner of more points than you can afford - and taking more trips than are doable.

There is a pattern here that happens sometimes. People buy a small number of points, and immediately decide (and are often talked into by us) that they need more points. So they buy a few more. Then they start learning even more - and decide they really need another small BWV contract to take advantage of standard view rooms. Then they start thinking about taking their toddler - maybe a small BLT contract, it would be perfect. They try and book BCV at seven months and it isn't available - well, we are going to need a few points there, too, aren't we. They discover one bedrooms. And then - they have more points than their schedule or budget allow them to really use. No single investment was very big, but now they are in for quite a bit of money.

So take it slow. Don't fall for addonitis before your first trip happens (unless 100 points in two fifty point contracts was the original plan). Don't let the euphoria put you in an unsustainable place.

Addonitis is real. We bought our second resale contract before our first stay. But we found that we LOVE one bedrooms. And after having stayed in a few of them are now spoiled and looking for even more points. So we understand about the whole 'addiction.'

That being said, we also have to pay attention to MF's and the ever increasing costs of going to Disney itself: passes, food, etc. The room/resort is only a fraction of the overall cost.

Fun to do, fun to be had...:sunny:

Addonitis is a real thing! We started with 100 points at VGF....we now own 210 at VGF and 210 at AKV...and...are looking for 50 more VGF and 75 at BWV....haha

Good luck with your purchase! When you want to add on, you will have much more experience and knowledge. We have added on many times, both resale and direct. It has been a huge benefit for our family.

Gosh! (As Goofy would say.) I guess I'm not alone in my DVC experience. We started with a measly 25 points thinking we could book 2 nights about every year and a half in a studio since the expense of that contract was so low. Well, since then we added on, and then made the choice (mistake?) to borrow points and try a 2-bedroom. Well, now we are hooked. We invite friends and use all of our points and keep on acquiring more. All of our points have been resale purchases. At this point I'm forbidding myself to check the boards/listings for contracts because if I don't know it is there I can't buy another one.
