I've been waiting since last April to book for 2016 and when I come close to doing it the rooms have gone!

I was planning for August 19th/20th at the BC but all they have now is water/pool view rooms and I'm not paying that!!
There is availability from the 21st in a standard room, this would mean I would have to stay somewhere else the 1st 1 or 2 nights depending on day of flight. Would probably do PoP to keep costs down, this I wouldn't book till an offer came out on US sites. Hopefully by then a room May of opened up at BC. I'm hoping they have just sold their allotted availability for now and more will come up.?

Do you think it's a pain to stay at PoP then transfer? We wouldn't have access to our tickets and dining but spending the first day around the pool/DTD isn't too bad?! We would then check in at BC 1st thing and head to a park.

Our other option is to do the full 14 nights at CBR, this would also be cheaper based on the split stay, we could save £1000 but we love the BC and I'm not sure about CBR it looks so big! Another option would be OKW for the 14 nights at £270 more but again looks huge!

OR as we have never been in August before, worried about the heat and rain, we could go October to BC in the half term plus the week after like we usually do but I didn't really want to take the kids out of school (will be 5&13 by then).
What is August really like, is it as bad as I hear?!? The longer nights appeal to me as it gets dark early in Oct/Nov but the rain puts me off. Just to mention we would also be there for our 15th wedding anniversary and DDs birthday if we go Aug. (trying to get DH to do a Disney vowel renewal! Not going down very well lol)

Think I better just book something then play around when flights come out.

Help.........:worship:

Hi @Nicnic

Sorry, I am just going to offer you another option!

If you are considering a different resort for your dates, but not one that is too big, what about POFQ? It is the smallest resort, and is beautiful. We stayed there last September and loved it.

August is hot hot hot, but if you go prepared, it's not impossible to cope with. I'm awful with hot weather, but with plenty of water, strong sun cream and making an effort to get out of the sun (shade or AC in the shops) it was OK. I caved on the last day and bought a misting fan, and wished I'd had it the whole time. Definitely taking it back with me!

Hoping that your dates free up at BC, or you find somewhere new to try.

We were worried about the size of SSR for last year (the Americans complain A LOT) but it was no further than the short stroll to our local Co-Op from our room to the Carriage House. If you're used to walking, I'd be inclined to take size reports with a pinch of salt. Or does a Preferred Room at CBR work out OK price wise, so you're nearer the main area?

Thanks for the reassurance of Aug. I think we can handle the heat it was the rain that worried me.

I would have done a preferred room at CBR but they still only sleep 4 and I need the rooms with the pull down bed as the kids won't share! There's always something!

The rain was quite pleasant. I mean, it drenches you completely, but I went with a mindset of "I'm British, if there's one thing we can handle, it's rain!"- I took a pack-a-mac and put it on when it rained. Job done. As soon as the sun comes out, you dry off pretty quickly! :)

Hi, thanks. We have stayed there before as a family of 3 and loved it. But they don't offer the extra bed. PORS was an option as they have the pull down but DH again did not like the size of it and all the bus stops. Plus I heard that in summer the Mosquitos are quite bad in the section that has the extra beds.

We would go back in a snap to POFQ if they had the extra bed.

Thanks again.

We go in August every year and I love it! Yes it's hot but it's manageable. We went this Easter and to be honest it wasn't that much cooler.

It seems strange that all the BC rooms have already gone?

I have stayed at POR in summer more than once. There was no mosquito issues when we were there. That said I have had a horrible ant experience at the Beach Club in August. I suppose summer means bugs sometimes. In several August trips we have had one that was a wash out for 5 consecutive days. That was a tropical storm. They do happen and it was a real downer. The normal afternoon showers don't interrupt us but they will happen most days. Personally I prefer POR to the Beach Club. The multiple bus stops aren't really an issue. You only need to use one of them! All the preferred rooms are near the main bus stop and have the extra bed. It's not very big though, the extra bed at Beach Club was better I thought. Have you tried Yacht Club? It's just the BC decorated differently.

No, I'm not using the UK version, I'm in the US. I only saw the thread title on the New Posts section, didn't realize I was in the wrong country! Sorry.

I also didn't realize overseas guests got first pick of rooms. I'm jealous.

CBR is a nice resort - the furthest rooms are the pirate rooms so as long as you don't book one of them you won't be that far away.

I would book somewhere I could have my whole stay as personally I hate moving! Tried it several times and won't do it now!!

As for August - well we love the heat and TBH you can watch when the rain comes in and just get out of it. You do occasionally get a longer spell but most times after an hour it's gone.

We don't really get first pick we just get earlier access to the allocation UK TAs are given :goodvibes

I've just checked the BC rooms, as I do a number of times a day!! And there back.......

So we can do the full 14 nights at BC but....... CBR is £1415less in a water view room and PORS £1100 less in a preferred room.

This is a lot of money. What would you do? I know it's personal choice but just after your opinions.

October the BC is £550 cheaper and CBR £300 cheaper than August so not a great saving to be had by going later.

Thanks.

Would you be upgrading the free QS dining to regular? That would reduce your savings but they'd still be cheaper I'm guessing. I'd go to POR preferred room but I really love that resort and the quick device food options are a million times better than at the Beach Club. It doesn't have that mega pool of course.

We have visited two of the resorts you are considering BC/OKW/ and are hoping to go to CBR next year. OKW is very similar to CSR which we have visited many times in all but the rooms and the boat to DTD. To be honest we loved OKW and it worked out the same for free ddp at OKW as paying to go to any mod with upgrade from qsdp to ddp. BC was substantially more costly but was in another class. I would happily pay the extra to return to BC if I had the money (won't have it next year with DS hopefully off to University).

We have had one trip in February and 6 trips in October/November - last year was our first trip in August. We loved it, didn't find the heat any worse than the hot days in October but the rain is something else. We found you could arrive for a parade in either afternoon or evening and with the thunder and lightening would end up not staying because of it. Also went to try and play crazy golf twice and it got shut for the rain same with the water parks. We also found that while food is a HUGE part of our October stays we just weren't that hungry in the August heat and humidity.

We are still returning in August as it is now the only option for us if we want a two week family holiday but have decided qsdp is sufficient and as CBR is about £300 cheaper for our dates we are going to try there instead of CSR. I believe the 'long' walk people talk about is 15-20 minutes maximum. Suits us.

We would do the DDP as we like our character meals and steak!!! The prices I quoted were with DDP.

Thanks

Môst of our stays have been in August with afternoon storms that were quickly over. Last year we had 1 storm in 14 nights, a few years ago we had storms for a full week due to a tropical storm.
I'm staying at BC this year for the first time but the year of the tropical storm we were at CBR, loved the resort. We were in Jamaica got the bus there on a morning but got off at the food court, grabbed what we needed and then walked over a bridge to the room. The resort didn't seem that big & the buses were great. I'd stay there again, particularly at such a saving.

August is certainly doable if, as noted above, you take some sensible steps such as making sure you drink plenty of water, take regular breaks out of the sun (in restaurants, shops or even waiting for rides) and trying not to flog yourself by trying to do too much.

We tend to buy a few cases of bottle water (the 20 oz size), freeze some bottles, and then keep refirgerated bottles in a cool bag together with a frozen bottle which keeps the water cool all day, and as a bonus, saves buying in the parks at $3 a go (or using snack credits if on DDP).

On our first visit, DW was worried that she wouldn't be able to cope with the heat, but by doing the above we all managed really well.

One piece of advice we were given was to try and take a break from the theme parks every 4th or 5th day - we tend to visit one of the water parks for half a day, and go shopping for the remainder of the day. Again, this has tended to work really well for us.
