Well that wasn't so bad...

I filed for unemployment benefits today. I thought it would be a red tape nightmare, but honestly, and probably sadly, they have that system down to a science. The people working there were actually very pleasant and efficient. Now, I'm another statistic, another name in the SYSTEM.

I did the same thing couple weeks ago...didn't even have to leave my house. Filed online, record of employment was uploaded from my previous employer and everything. It is crazy easy. I have to do an online survey every two weeks and that's about that. They even gave me a customer survey to make sure I felt that they treated me well.....

I filed for unemployment earlier this year after I lost my job. I felt pretty depressed having to do it, but the process was easy and pretty painless. They sent me information about job fairs and such and there was a website to check for job postings (aside from the usual careerbuilder, monster etc.) Anyway, I was lucky enough to find a new job within two months through the Pennysaver of all things, and it's a much better fit for me than my old job.

My advice is to just keep posting your resume and sending it out to people. Contact a few headhunters. Keep yourself out there. I know it's hard but keep yourself motivated. You never know when you might find a job oppertunity. Good luck to everybody out there job searching.

You are absolutely right about keeping motivated, but it is so hard when you are home all day and the only commercials you see are for trade schools (ITT Tech, etc.). :) Eventually you start thinking, Hey! I could go to one of these places and get a job in just under a year. Craziness! I need a job now!

When I filed it was a bit of a hassle...Can't do the initial filing on the internet...Have to call, and the waits are always an hour on hold...If the waits are really long, you get a message saying they wont be answering your call and they disconnect you...When I finally could file, they gave me a hard time about going on vacation...I got laid off 5 days before a vacation that had been planned, booked, and paid for, for almost a year...Losing my job wasnt part of the plan....Then they gave me a hard time because I got a severance...Well, I was only there 6 months, so my severance was only 2 weeks pay...Then they told me they couldnt help me any more, I had to wait for a claims adjuster to call me...WHAT?? Why did no one tell me that before...Well, I hunted her down and called twice a day until she returned my calls...Finally all is well and I have been getting my checks.
I hate this.

I can't even get through by phone. When I was first unemployed this year, I had to restart last year's claim...couldn't do it by phone at all, even after a week of trying. Had to drive up to our nearest center and wait in line there.

Of course, the claim expires this week, and I have to re-file for the rest of the claim. Can I get through by phone? Of course not. Have to go stand in line again.

^ Oh gosh, I am sorry to hear that..What a nuisance:headache:

Here in CA, internet is the best way. Their call system floods and disconnects you too easily. It's fairly seamless, though. After 11 months, I was a pro. 1 more month and hopefully, I'll be off it for good!!!

glad it went smoothly for you!

a friend of mine works for fedex corporate here in dallas and they just emailed out a notice that all salaried employees will take a 5% cut in pay and they are freezing/suspending all 401k contribution matches too. no raises or bonuses. it's scary out there.

i have friends getting laid off left and right.
