Some of you will remember my posts about his low salt diet and cleaning his fake plants. Incredibly and sadly, he died tonight at about 8pm. We had been with him this afternoon. My sister, brother and nephew came over and we were going to take him to dinner but he didn't feel well enough to go. Because of that, we stopped over after dinner and he seemed pretty sick. He said he had gotten nauseous all of a sudden and had a chill. He was in the hospital for a few days a week ago and I thought maybe he had come down with a virus. So, I told him I was going to take my 15yo son home and come back and check on him, that maybe we should consider going to the ER just to make sure he was ok. He agreed that we could discuss it. As soon as I got home, he called to say he had fallen and needed my husband to help him get up so we headed back there right away. When we walked in, he was dead.
My husband began CPR and we called 911. They worked to revive him for about 50 minutes, got a pulse but could not sustain it even with 'loads of medicine', per the doctor on call when the squad took him in. I am literally numb. I knew eventually he would die but we had just talked about it and he said he wasn't 'checking out' any time soon. I am guessing that his kidneys failed. He was in advanced stages of kidney disease as well as other things but the doctors had just talked to him about chemotherapy for his leukemia so they didn't think he was that far along, obviously.
Shocked and sad.
