Well...It's Official: POC Closing For Refurb

I just saw this article in the Orlando Sentinal stating POC will be closing this Spring for 3 or 4 Monts. It will reopen around the beginning of July. The article does not refer to any specific date on when it will close.

We'll just miss it. We'll be heading down at the beginning of August. Thank goodness. I don't think I could do a trip without PoC. I'll barely be able to make it through Epcot when we go down this month without Test Track...

When is the official closing date? I've read several threads, and they all have different closing dates?

Our trip is April 12-22; will we get to ride POTC?

How can they close a major ride during PEAK season???

Sniff, sniff... we are planning our first trip to WDW in May, and we were SO looking forward to this ride... my niece and her family just got back and raved about it!! I'm with disneyjunkie; why didn't they think to close it during off-peak season??

I guess we'll just have to take a couple extra spins on Space Mountain to get over our sorrow...

I am so so so sad! I kept telling my DH about this ride, which I remember so fondly from my one trip when I was 12 - now I guess we won't get to ride it. *sniff sniff*

We took my neice to DL for the first time when she was almost three and four of the fantasyland rides were down for rehab, so I understand your frustration. But if they don't close the rides once in a while they get old and broken. Disney needs to make sure they are clean, safe, and fun for everyone. I hate it when my favs are down while I'm there, but its a necessary evil.

We missed it on our last trip, Spring Break 2004. It was just too long a line and fast passes were all gone. This was the 1st thing on my must do list when we go back in June.

I love Pirates, and I also think it needs a major rehab (thats another thread). I don’t think peak season is the right time to do it though. Thankfully it should be open when we are there, my daughter would be very upset if it isn’t.

I completely agree!!! I'm trying to figure out a way to get down there BEFORE they do this so I can see the original ride I first went on in WDW...My first Disney experience!!! I understand that times change and if they update it a lot of people will like to see Jack Sparrow and stuff, but I'm a classic, traditional (hey, call me boring!) person. and

I'm so sorry I misunderstood you. I'm not sure yet about how I feel about the new changes. I love the original ride at DL, but am not as fond of the ride at WDW. Maybe I'll like the new changes. But I can completly understand people who are disappointed they are changing things.

why!?!? what's wrong with Pirates?!? i hope that rumor of putting Jack Sparrow in there is still just a rumor and not actually going to happen. man, if it ain't broke don't fix it, that's my theory!
