Well, I guess I can't go back to that McDonalds!

One time I was in So. Cal. with my vegetarian sister when she ordered a meatless burger at McDonald's. The guy taking her order said he'd have to charge her extra for that! It took a bit of arguing before that was resolved. My sis said it's much easier to order a burger without meat where she lives in Washington State...I guess there are a lot more vegetarians there.

I used to have a Dunkin Donuts that was on my way to work, so I'd stop from time to time to grab a breakfast sandwich. I can't have eggs, so I'd always get it without egg. And they would ALWAYS try to charge me more for it. Their reasoning? "Since you don't have egg, we need to fill your sandwich with extra cheese and we need to charge you extra for that." :scared1: Ummm...no, you don't need to give me extra cheese because I don't want it. I'm actually okay with paying the regular price - I'd never expect a discount, however - that cheese thing was just backwards! If I wanted extra cheese, I'd have asked for it.

Everyone's posts reminded me of an experience at Wendy's several years ago. I don't like cheese on my burgers and unfortunately most of Wendy's burgers have cheese on them by default. For lunch on day at a local Wendy's I ordered 2 double stacks without cheese. I got my order, got my condiments and napkins, sat down and unwrapped my burgers. Guess what - cheese on both ! Go back to the counter and explained the problem. They make me 2 more burgers and I go back to my seat. Unwrap the sandwiches - Cheese again !! Back to the counter yet again and this time they get my order correct , but they had to throw away 4 burgers because they couldn't read or understand the directions.

BTW, I've never returned to this Wendy's since.

One time I was with some friends who went to a McDonald's in downtown Atlanta. I ordered a burger, no onions. I was told they had to COOK THE BURGER. What? You don't have some on hand for when people do special orders? Then had to argue with them to substitute something else as I couldn't wait (I was with others who already had their food). I got the substituted item and then later they came out with my original burger. :headache:

The last time I went there a couple years ago, I was bugged by a bum INSIDE the store.

I have to say, I just LOVE the the Banzai Burger with veggie patty at RR! I dream about it.

It's ridiculously good, isn't it?

At least on the west side of the state, there are plenty of us!

I think Red Robin used to charge extra for the veggie patty substitution, so I'm not surprised by McDs wanting to do it. Then again, CA has always been pretty open to veggie'ness, so part of me is surprised!

Anyway, I can totally see it happening. We used to get Egg McMuffins without the meat, b/c we liked the "cheese" etc, and we always ALWAYS checked the innards before leaving the drivethru window, just to make sure.
