"We'll Get There When We Get There!" Mr Incr3dible's journal (comments definitely welcome)

Another pretty good run today. Weather is in the mid 80s but otherwise nice enough. On the 1st mile and the last half mile, both of which are rather flat, my pace hovered just above 11 minutes per mile, and then the middle 2 miles were slower due to the hills. I saw my max heart rate to get up to 170, which is as high as I’ve ever seen it, plus I was definitely winded when I finished. So still building up stamina and lungs and heart, but nothing to complain about. If I was paying closer attention to the clock, OCD me would have waited three more seconds before hitting the stop button...
Thanks for reading. Happy running.

At this point, some good days running, and some days that are less so just two days later. But I was really pleased with the 4-mile run.

I feel like this happens to all of us. Some days a run can feel effortless and then a few days later, the exact same type of workout/run can feel like a marathon. A lot of things could contribute to this from sleep, diet, hydration, weather, stress, and sometimes you arent able to pin point the why, just a hard run that shouldn't be. What matters is you are out there putting in the work and in the long run "pun intended" it will pay off. Just keep working and you the results you are wanting will come in time.

No running entries for a week, as we are heading to the port for a weeklong cruise. We’ll be overnighting in a hotel tonight so I may wind up online for a few minutes then, but otherwise it’s a week of being disconnected from everything, fun, and unfortunately probably going to come back about 5 pounds heavier…

take the stairs everywhere and walk on the deck after meals and that will help. Signed, an almost platinum Disney cruiser. :)

Got back from the cruise and have waded through tons of emails plus getting back into routines.
Thoughts and observations:
1. Cruise ships are now huge, so plenty of walking. The elevators stay busy, so plenty of opportunity to do stairs.
2. The "running track" is also known as "one of the decks that has people walking around it", so limited run opportunity outside, and I don't care for treadmills.
3. That said, the gym equipment looks outside and it is serene watching the sea go by.
4. Cruise life entails a lot of standing in line for food, shows, activity, going on/off the ship. Blah
5. I'm good for about a week of cruising, and after that I'm ready to not have so many people around me, and back to relatively quiet training runs.

FWIW, I managed to gain appx 1.5-2 pounds, and getting back on the eating-better bandwagon has me back to pre-cruise weight, if not a little lower. Onward and downward....

Rather hot this week. T+D yesterday was 95 + 72 =167, so kept it a little short and made it a pi mile run.

After church I skipped lunch and ran on the flat-ish greenway for the first time in forever, and tried to make it a long run. At 6 miles, it was my longest training run in well over a year. T+D was in the 155 to 160 range, but I stuck with the 45-second RWR intervals and was rewarded with a pretty good time.

How your holding up after your 6 miler the other day? Hope all is well and happy to see you are making progress!

Doing fairly well. The 6-miler was a non-event other than being in the mid-day heat. My surgically repaired leg has recovered to the point that I rarely think about it, and I'm back to bounding up stairs 2 at a time. Jumping down from stuff? That is a very different story, and the answer is that I don't any more.
On my 3.5-4 mile neighborhood runs, there are times when my legs can feel a bit weak, for want of a better description, particularly on the two big hills. I'm thinking I may need to incorporate gentle lunges or squats. But otherwise, just building back up stamina, and getting my lungs back to where they can (hopefully) keep up with my legs. I'm sticking with the RWR intervals, and can report very good results so far.
Thank you for asking, and thank you for reading.

I think we discussed it a while back, but I cant remember, are you partaking in marathon weekend 2026?

Sounds good. One of the best things about rD races is meeting people from this forum. More than once, I've had people recognize me at the resort or expo and say hi (and I'll openly admit that I am terrible at recognizing people where I don't expect to see them). And for SS I spent time in the corral talking with a fellow member of this forum, and we didn't know it until afterward. So cool.

As for training.... it has been stupid hot here in the ATL. Sadly the Braves have not been.....
I've been out appx every other day in the afternoon heat, sweatin' to the miles, usually 3.5 to 4 miles. I did make it to the greenway Sunday afternoon for a long run of 5.19 miles. Pace has been averaging right around 11:33/mile on the weekday runs, and was a tad less on the flat-ish greenway. At this point in the season, I'll take that.
I've been telling friends and neighbors who ask how recovery is going that this is just building back to where I was and that MW training begins in earnest in September when the weather begins to turn cooler. That said, we have a cool front coming in for the weekend and I expect to be basking in that for next week!

I get the occasional honks or shouts as I run on the sidewalk, and usually it is people who recognize me. I had a pleasant surprise yesterday when car pulls along side and a guy in his late 40s/early 50s slowed down to tell me that he sees me out running in the afternoons and kudos for running the hill that we were both going up. He then invited me to join a running group that meets around 5:30 in the morning. I had to tell him that I appreciated the offer, but have a tough time running in my sleep....
So I will continue with my de facto heat training, which makes it all the more pleasant when the temps drop.

As for how I'm doing? So far so good. Still building strength in my calves and building up my lungs, but no ill effects from running, nothing requiring ice packs. I had a bit of soreness in my knee the other day, but that was more likely from the standing and contortions necessary from some of the work I was doing on the weekend.

Thanks for reading.
