I appreciate the fact that John Kerry has chosen to concede the election when he had every right to put the nation through more indecision. He is a good and decent man. I didn't vote for him, but I have a great deal of respect for him for doing the honorable thing today.

To the Kerry supporters, sorry the election didn't meet your expectations. But you are still my neighbors and friends regardless of how you vote (yes, even those Dunkin Donuts supporters out there!). Don't hang your head. Stand up tall. Be proud of your vote and your candidate. Just because Kerry lost the election doesn't mean your vote didn't have an impact on the next four years.

To the Bush supporters, congratulations! But a word of caution -- don't read into this. This was a very close election. Much of the nation does not support President Bush. I hope President Bush follows John Kerry's lead in taking steps to bring the country together more.

:D

I agree. I voted for Bush, but respect Kerry for his decision today.

I disagree. It is not that close. President Bush has received the most popular votes in history. He has received 51% of the popular vote. Clinton never exceeded 43%.

Very well said. I too voted for Bush, but have the upmost respect for Kerry and would have continued to have the upmost respect for him had he been elected my President.

I would of liked for him to stick it out.....each and every vote should be counted.

I wonder what they do with the absentee ballots. Good Morning America discussed this yesterday and said they had to be postmarked by yesterday's date. How would you feel is they were announcing the winner and you knew that your vote wasn't heard.

No matter which man was going to be announced as victor this morning, one thing is perfectly clear..............half the country doesn't want them in office.:(

I agree that it was a classy and correct decision for Kerry to make. And your post was quite classy too, I might add. Nobody needs to kick Kerry supporters when they're down.

...Or at least wait a week to let us mourn. ;)

Unlike with Gore in 2000, the votes were not on Kerry's side to fight this thing. He didn't have the popular vote, so if he were to undertake a protracted vote count, he would NOT have had the support of the country

I also agree with Dawn on the divided country issue. Bush got more votes than any President in history and he got >50% of the popular vote. Hard to make the divided case. Sorry, but is seem that much of the nation DOES support Bush. As painful as it is for Kerry supporters to admit, sounds like a mandate to me.

that's how I felt about voting...NY State was already called for Kerry way before election day even came around..so why should anyone in NY have made an effort to get out and vote? I still put my vote through and always will...but so many states were already in one camp or the other before the voting started.

I totally agree!

being a kerry voter, I think he did the right thing:)

I stayed out of the politcial dicussions. I know who I was going to vote for & it really didn't matter what any one else said.

Anyway, I am very proud of Kerry. He ran a good race, he did excellent with the debates & YES I am a proud John Kerry supporter.

Trying to inject reason at a time like this. The gall. In the words of Ronald Reagan, "There you go again."

A personal thanks to you, jrydberg, for your voice of calm and reason here on the DIS during this election. As nasty as it sometimes became, you never let yourself be drawn in and remained a sane voice during an insane time. Hat's off.

Richard

ITA that it is very classy of John Kerry to concede the election. I DID vote for him and am sorry that he didn't win. However, I don't think that Bush getting the popular vote as much as he did is because people are crazy about him, I think that people were just unsure of Kerry and picked the lesser of 2 evils.
