Well, we started out on 8/25 at SSR to check out the new place, and took a side trip to SeaWorld. Little did we know...............

On the 29th, we came over to BCV and started to make the rounds of the parks. By 9/1, we decided to strike pre-emptively and changed our flight from Saturday night (9/4) to Monday. We also booked a room at Boardwalk for Saturday & Sunday night.

When things started getting really hairy by Thursday, we checked at the front desk at BCV to make sure they could get our bags (and us!) from BCV to the Boardwalk on Saturday morning. We also wanted to ask why they couldn't just let us stay in our DVC studio unit, because we were positive there would be cancellations. No, we were told---the DVC units were all filled up. They said we would have no trouble getting our stuff over there, so not to worry.

By dumb luck, we overheard the people at the counter next to us being offered a room at the Yacht Club for $199 per night to extend their stay----the same rate we had been offered for Boardwalk. We were a little annoyed that we weren't offered that option the whole time we were standing at the counter, since by staying at the Yacht Club (contiguous with BCV) we could just walk over to our new room and be closer to all the shops & restaurants in the BC/BCV/Yacht Club complex. We insisted they apply our room deposit for Boardwalk to a Yacht Club room, and it was done.

Very smooth transfer, and I have to say that the cast members have outdone themselves (even by Disney standards) in helping everyone weather the storm. There has been a live jazz band in the lobby at the Yacht Club all day, and a guy making the most wonderful balloon animals & creations you have ever seen. His cast member name is "Andy Mation," and he made my daughter Shannon an Ariel hairpiece out of balloons------and mermaid fins to place around her legs, if you can imagine that! He made a T-Rex for my son (special order), and made Mickey, Donald, Pluto and other Disney characters in cartoon-quality renderings.

Stormalong Bay was open until early afternoon, when some of the rain started. The quiet pools stayed open until 3 or 4 o'clock.

The Yachtsman Steakhouse was closed, but the Galley (and Cape May at BCV) stayed open for lunch and dinner. Box meals of turkey, ham, PBJ with fruit, beverage, & M&M's have been available all day throughout the resorts ($5.00).

The lobbies are swarming with cast members asking if anyone needs help of any kind, or just stopping you to chat. Bulletins about the weather and operating plans have been delivered to our rooms several times, and over the past 24 hours we have received 3 pre-recorded messages from the General Manager of the Yacht Club, Sam Pensula, about the state of affairs at the resort.

We had dinner at the Galley just a few hours ago, and our waitress was a little inexperienced and overwhelmed. She forgot part of our order, and took forever to get us the check. When she did, she charged us for one of the kids (who did not eat anything-----he got a PBJ box meal.) We didn't really vocalize any complaint at all, but I guess a gentleman seated with his family next to us must have taken note of it. He approached our table and said: "Hi, I'm Sam--- the General Manager here. I can take care of that problem with your check." I said that I recognized his voice from the messages, and thanked him for his efforts and all the hard work of the cast members. We had a nice chat, and he went back to finish dinner with his family----all the while being paged and called about stuff going on at the resort. In fact, he had to leave to take a conference call shortly thereafter. I was very impressed with the fact that he would take such a personal interest in such a minor matter, with everything else going on at the time.

All in all, we are very impressed with the way Disney has handled the situation. Let's hope everyone in Florida stays safe and secure and gets through the weekend unscathed.

No really high winds or steady rain just yet (9 PM Saturday). I will post updates.

Anybody else down here still?

We left Thursday night. We were at BCV.We were offered the 199.00 rate for BC if we wanted it but we used our points and added 2 more nights and was going to stay till Sunday.Be as the storm slowed down we knew that was our chance to get home,We have to be at work Monday. When we checked out we were told to call back in the next day and they would tell us about our points,So when I called I found out they give me back the 2 days I had added on plus our points for Thursday.I was pleasently surprised.I was Very,Very Impressed with how the BC and CMs were handling everything.

Be safe.

Misty

I hope you and your family make it through the storm with out any problems. We love the BC/YC and if you had to be stuck somewhere, I can't think of a better place! Take care! :umbrella:

Thank You for the update. Those of us up north can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. We may have a tornado or two a year, but never with a few days notice. It must be sheer h*ll to just sit and wait. I will be looking forward to more updates.
Our Best Wishes to all of Florida.
Hang on tight it's going to be a long night!!!

Thanks for the update, Great Baboo. We're watching the storm closely. DH and I will be down at BWV on the 16th. Hope you all stay safe and hope WDW doesn't experience too much damage from Frances. Be safe and keep us informed of what's happening if you can.

Oddly enough, we are not that concerned about it. As my wife quipped to a waitress today: "We're from New York City, where you have to worry about people hurting you-----not just the weather."

10 PM Saturday night.

Our balcony looks out over the water towards Boardwalk. The neon signs are on: ESPN, Flying Fish, Spoodles. All very pretty and inviting---sort of teasing us to come over and play.

A bit windy, but no rain at the moment.

It is eerily quiet. Looking across the water at the usually bustling Boardwalk, it reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where the dude is wandering through a town where coffee is brewing in the diner, music is playing in the jukebox------ but there just isn't anyone else there but him.

Disney is showing the new Three Musketeers movie on TV. They have also been showing Monsters, Inc., Brother Bear, and Finding Nemo in constant loops.

Surfing the net, watching cartoons, havin' a Bud........

I guess there are worse places to be stuck in a hurricane!

Thanks for the update. From the weather channel, it sounds like you'll see more weather starting around 5am. Stay safe!!

Hunker down Baboo, be safe. !!!

Our thought & prayers are with you and your family.

Disney = Family!!

I guess there are worse places to be stuck in a hurricane!

It's good to see you have such a positive attitude through all of it. I can somewhat relate. We were on a cruise last summer and got stuck in a tropical storm in Nassau. My aunt had paid for our whole trip and was so upset that it was being 'ruined.' I smiled and said 'Hey, I'm in the bahamas! Who cares! At least I'm not at work.' I think it really helps to have that kind of an attitude when things like this happen. Take care of yourselves everyone and keep us posted. We're all praying for you.

Thanks, guys! I am standing guard over Mrs. Baboo, Shannon (age 8) and Christian (age 4) even as we speak!

There is now a steady, pelting rain. The wind is now starting to bow the trees outside into more unnatural positions.

Next report Sunday AM, I guess!

Baboo, thanks for keeping us all up to date. You have a great attitude and I am keeping all of you in Florida in my prayers. Please keep us posted, stay safe!

The Great Baboo:

I'll be checking in for your reports. It sounds like you are making the best of a bad situation. Keep watch over your lovely family and try to get some sleep. Wishing you a safe night and all the magic of WDW.

Sandy

It's 6am and I'm up checking on any DISfamily who's at WDW. From CNN reports, it's looking pretty wet & windy. I hope the Baboo family are safe and snug as a bug in thier beds.

9:18 AM Sunday.

Lots of rain, moderate winds. From the weather maps, it looks like more of the same throughout the day.

Don't see any damage so far, but I think it will get worse this PM.

Goods news-------WDW is saying they will open the parks Monday morning. :bounce:

Thanks for the updates - stay safe and dry!
We'll be joining you all down there at the BCV on Friday - hopefully!
Sherri :)
