Ouch! Just last night there was a segment on the news about electric going up right after the New Year.. I really don't know how some people are going to manage..

C.Ann arent your electric rates regulated in New York? here in VT they cant raise their rates without going before the Public Service Board, and it takes months if not years to raise them. Usually they'll go before the board with a proposal to raise them a year later...since it usually takes that long.

Oil here has gone down, cash price was just 2.38 a gallon down from a high of 2.58 or so in November...Gas came down too, 2.19 across the street yesterday, day before was 2.25

Well, mine was better than yours, at least. $275 for a 1600 sqft 2 story home. We keep it at 62 durring the day while we're at work, and overnight while we sleep (the electric blanket has gotten a workout, let me tell you!), and 68 from 5 PM to 10 PM when we are home and awake, otherwise it would have been worse. The record cold December we've had here in Chicago didn't help either!

Tell you the truth, I really don't know - but I'm sure they said the increase would be right after the New Year..

They already "adjusted" my budget at the lake - it was $41 a month for the 7 months I was up there and now - with the master breaker off and nothing at all running - they've raised it to $56 a month.. I'm assuming it will go up a bit more after the New Year, but that's peanuts compared to what people are paying for natural gas right now..

Natural gas wholesale prices have gone down a lot in recent weeks, so we should see some moderation of prices within a month.

It looks like I'm going to Lowe's this weekend and adding R-19 insulation to the attic (That'll bring us to the DOE recommendation for our area of R-49). Our friends two houses away paid $750 about a year ago to have additional insulation blown into their attic and said it's already paid for itself in A/C and heating savings.

We are on the budget and so far, so good, paying $125 a month. I keep it at 68. December was cold but temperatures are supposed to be warmer next month.
I can tell you one thing--I sold our hot tub and I used 1/3 less electricity this December than last December! I pay $140 a month for that; hoping it goes down in the adjustment once they notice every month since August is way lower than it was a year ago.

Natural Gas, is seperate from gas you buy at the pump. Our church's heating bill was $1500, but it had a $250 credit because they said they bought the gas at a cheaper rate in November. I guess that is suppose to make you feel better when you look at a $1300 bill.

I never understood why the two came to be termed so similarly: natural gas (which is a gas), versus gasoline (which is neither a gas, nor related to natural gas, but rather related to crude oil, so perhaps it should have been called oiline ).

I just got my bill and it was $295. I couldn't beleive it. I have the temp. set at 60 during the day when we aren't home and 60 at night. So maybe it is set at 68 for 5 hours a day.

As of next month I won't have my job, so I better start to bundle up because I will not raise the temp. while I'm at home, I won't be able to pay the bill.
