No visit from Mr. Murphy last night. Unless you count the fact that I had DW Sue convinced that we should switch our landline over to Vonage. I was on the webpage signing up for the service when I found out that our phone number is NOT portable. That is to say that Vonage can't wrench it away from Alltell (or Windstream or whoever our phone company is). Too bad. I would have loved to swap our $40/month phone bill for a $15/month Vonage account. Sigh. At least the kids are ok.

Morning all....

Stilll really hot here...thunderstorms came thru yestrday evening (did Paula lose power.....Nooooooooo!!). Heat is back today.

For those of you that asked about Chris' car insurance - this is for liability only - his own policy. We had given him the option to fix up my husbands Mazda truck and use that and we would pay the insurance but he didn't want it (not good enough) so we told him that if he buys his own car he has to get his own insurance.

Suzanne - I can't believe the kids are back in school aready!! Glad the teacher-meets went well.
Chris mentioned going school shopping this weekend - I asked how the summer reading was going - he laughed and left the room.....and do it goes.

I think Alyssa is tired of the "9-5" and ready to go back to school. She got her dorn assignment but didn't get the roomate that she requested. I think she moves in Sept 4 or 5th.

Elaine - I hope you can get some good rest today.

Paula, stay safe in that heat! We are getting lots of storms today here. Totally makes sense about Chris' car and payments. My parents had a similar set up. In all honesty, I didn't even think of buying a car until I got out of college. We had real junkers and they were fine for me

Vonage service includes caller-id with name, voicemail, three way calling, and virtually every other feature imaginable. If your internet connection fails, Vonage will automagically forward your calls to one (or more) cellphone numbers. You can take your interface box with you and use it anythere that there is a broadband connection. And the interface box is free if you signup through their website.

It looks like a fantastic package, but only if your broadband connection is through a cable modem. If you have DSL, you still have to pay the phone company for the phone line running to your home. I would have signed up if they had let me keep our existing landline number.

As far as battery backup, I suppose that you could always put your cable modem and Vonage interface box on a UPS that would keep things powered up all the time.

John, I know a few will forward to cell phone, but that isn't something Luis is willing to do. I have a tendency to talk on the phone a lot so that would be a good way to waste minutes Luis kind of refuses to switch until TW (who we would use due to package deals) will give us the UPS/battery back up. Then again the vonage quote here isn't really any cheaper than our all in one with AT&T. So we're not rushing to switch

I seem to recall that we were shopping in Downtown Disney at the time and Rebecca thought I should get some Mickey boxers so we showed a pair to Lainey.

I hadn't actually purchased them yet, but since I did, they were technically my boxers.

But everyone was fully clothed and she only saw them being held in the air, of course.

My aunt & uncle in Texas have Vonage and love it. My mom wants it, but doesn't have a computer. We got rid of our landline last year and just use our cells.
