trip report time
Cruise Pictures
We had a rather uneventful flight down to Mobile. There was a teeny delay in the flight from Memphis to Mobile, but we were only about 20 minutes late. We got the shuttle from the airport to the hotel, and eventually went to our room. The hotel shuttled us the next morning (after a fine breakfast of Krispy Kremes) to the dock. There was a bit of a line, but we boarded just after noon, and wound up meeting a very nice couple from Cleveland in line as well.
We went to our cabin immediately, and then checked out the rest of the ship. It was huge and I admit if it werent for the map, we would have been very lost most of the time. We decided to have lunch, which was just pizza and ice cream. I swear if there was anything to do, it was to eat.
After we ate, I decided to get this conditioning oil treatment for my hair, which included a half hour long head, neck & upper back massage. Oh I was in 7th heaven with that!!!!!! After the oil treatment, I went back, showered, dressed & went to dinner. They had amazing sit down service and we were seated with some wonderful people. Since we had the late seating, we more or less went to bed as soon as we got back home.
Tuesday morning we got up at a reasonable hour, had breakfast and by 8 am we were out on the sun deck just taking in the sun & the gulf water views. We watched an ice sculpture being made, watched a Newlywed/Not so Newlywed game, lazed around a ton and after we watched the sun set, we got dressed for the formal dinner and cocktail hour. This was the only time that you could drink alcohol for free. After dinner, we watched a stage show, then went up to take pictures of the midnight buffet (didnt eat it though) and then went to sleep.
Wednesday we were docked in Calica. I admit this place was a sad sight to see. Just the way people live makes me feel blessed. We had a nice shopping & beach tour. I got to try on some amazingly expensive and huge diamond rings, but settled for a beautiful delicate sterling silver bracelet. We spent 2 hours at Playa del Carmen beach... just gorgeous!
We went back to the ship to have a very late lunch, relax and then had dinner before we went to a swing class. So Luis finally learned how to dance swing style!!! They had a few more shows/activities on the ship that we did (battle of the sexes... women won!!! comedy show among them) and we went to sleep a bit early to make sure we could get up for the excursion.
Thursday morning we docked in Cozumel. The water there is amazingly wonderful as well! We thought we were going to have to tender in to port, but we were lucky and were able to dock. So we had a quick breakfast, browsed some of the shops of Cozumel, then went to go on our beach buggy & snorkeling excursion. That was a BLAST!!! We did a little driving to where we snorkeled (which was cool, but I hated being stung as much as I was by the jellyfish). Then we drove to a private beach and had an excellent lunch. The scenery was gorgeous and I LOVED driving that beach buggy!!! We looked around Cozumel a little more and headed back to the ship.
From this point on, we just did a ton of relaxing. That might sound very boring, but trust me, I loved being rocked to sleep in the afternoon and evening when I would lay on the bed! We had dinner in the dining room each of the remaining nights and just had a blast lazing around.
On my birthday, we had room service for lunch in our cabin (which was yummy) and he embarrassed me terribly at dinner by having a cake brought to the table and then had them sing to me. We did try out the casino at one point as well... spent $3 and then left. I guess gambling isnt for us.
Saturday was the day we disembarked from the ship. We were up really really early (even for me) and were packed and off the ship by about 9 am. Within about 30 minutes Alan and Rebecca showed up. It was a perfect way to end the trip. We more or less just hung out at a near by mall after seeing some of the city by car... loved the beads hanging from the trees in the streets. We had lunch, and then eventually headed to the airport. Alan & Rebecca were sweet enough to wait with us while we moved flights from NWA to Delta (due to flight delays). We honestly had a blast with the both of them, and really the time flew by so quickly. We had a wonderful time with them and the trip in general. It was the best birthday I have had in years!
