Welcome to the WISH Biggest Loser 7 Challenge

Hi guys.

I have been really busy this week and just have not had much "fun time" on the computer. This is a really big thread and I just cannot keep up with it or make as many individual comments as I would like, but I just want to say that you are all awesome. To those of you struggling and going through such rough times, my heart is with you and my admiration to the zenith just for hanging in.

We all should be proud of ourselves for doing this.

I was up .2 pounds this week and did PM that to Brenda (I can PM now - yeah!). To WW, that is basically staying the same. I did have some days where I ate too many points but have not really been out of control.

I also PMed the COW results, but not sure I am doing it right.

I'll briefly try to answer the QOTDs here:

Sunday's QOTD:
What is your favorite "Go To" meal that you make yourself when you are in a pinch, or the family is eating something you can't eat?

There is nothing I cannot eat, that is the beauty of WW. I have long ago given up on making extra meals for me, it just does not work and makes me get out of control really easy. We use a lot of frozen dinners here. We don't have the same choices up here that you Americans have (we have far fewer products) but I like some of the newer WW dinners and there is one that I get at my grocery store that only has four points. It is a really nice hamburger/pasta with the noodles in the shape of Winnie the Pooh.

In a pinch there is my old peanut butter and molasses which I have loved since childhood.

Monday QOTD -
1. What is your favorite restaurant or type of restaurant (example -Japanese, mexican, chinese), for eating a healthy OP meal that you feel good about yourself when you leave knowing you are still on track when you leave.

Almost anywhere - because many of the restaurant chains post the points on WW online for their products.

The other day, we took my girlfriend to Pizza Delight as it was her birthday and she ate free. I got garlic fingers with cheese and donair sauce (9 points) and a small "shot glass" dessert for 3 points. I found that delicious and satisfying.

Not the healthiest meal I have ever eaten, but OP - remember that, at this size, have a lot of points.

2. What do you order?

I usually order chicken, potatoes and a vegetable and either a small (real small - restaurants these days are tuning in and offering bit sized desserts)
dessert or share one with DH.

I have to limit Chinese to 5 -6 times per year because I don't like any of the healthy stuff, just the deep fried real nasty (for the body) stuff.

Japanese, I love. We don't have enough Japanese restaurants here. I like the chicken/shrimp terriyaki dish I buy at a fast food place in the Halifax Shopping Centre. Everything is sauted in water and you can buy the sauce to take home (which I do). The sauce is without points, if you portion it out.

Tuesday's QOTD: Who is someone who inpires you and gives you hope.
This could be someone from History, someone living today, someone you know or even someone who inspires you to live your healthiest life.

The family member suffering from the eating disorder. I watch her and try to adopt her efforts and courage.

QOTD - Wednesday:
Whatare your favorite treat's that are still relatively healthy?

I like Fiber One bars and low fat pudding. Special K have some good bars out now too.

Thursday QOTD:
What is your next event that makes you nervous about staying on track?
What is your game plan to get past this event and stay on track/OP?

None I can think of really - I am on a lifestyle change not a quick fix.

QOTD: What is your strategy to stay on your healthy eating/exercise plan THIS weekend??

Chart every day, train every day (includes rest days) and be positive every day - WE CAN DO THIS.

I missed church this morning because I did not get my butt in gear quickly enough, and that upsets me because I need to be there. I feel out of balance when that is not in my life.

Doubt I will get there tonight because I have an appointment and DH, I think, wants to catch a flick.

Oh well, I will enjoy my time with him.

Have a "magical losing day" folks

I think I'm down a little since last week... Which is great! The day after my surgery last monday I was up 6 pounds! I nearly had a heart attack. I was all swelled up and deformed looking in the surgical area! I didn't eat the best and laid around all week. But I am jealous reading about all the exercising everybody is doing. I can't wait to get back to the gym.

This thread is awesome! You all are so helpful and encouraging to each other.

I'm leaving for Florida on Thursday. My father lives down in the Ft. Lauderdale area and my brother is flying in from California (I haven't seen him in 8 yrs!) and my sister is flying in from Utah. And my niece is flying in with her new baby from Virginia! They don't know that I am bringing both of my sons. It's going to be a lot of fun. I'm not looking forward to the 15 hr drive though. So, my plan is to just maintain and not go crazy with the eating. One good thing is that my 21 yr old is now eating healthy and joined the gym, too! We'll watch each other's back...

I hope everybody has a great week!

I'd like to add for the people who are doing everything right but the weight isn't coming off... I went three months through the summer doing everything 'right' and the scale wouldn't budge! My brain just clicked in that it stopped being my goal. I had decided that working out and eating better was my new way of life. I know that it sounds like a cliche' but after so many years of trying it just seemed fruitless as usual. But unlike 'usual' I had other reasons to keep at it. And then in October the weight began coming off. I can't tell you how happy I am that I kept it up. Normally I would have given up. I'm down 22 lbs since October. I always promised God that I would stop complaining if I could only be a 12. Before I knew what was happening, I'm in a 10!! :cool1: Hang tough, it's worth it.

I guess its because I don't really know how or where to start and I look at it all and get overwhelmed and feel guilty for having bought the stuff and never used it. I would love to take the time to start it.

I too am a scrapbooking fool ;) i'm not soliciting with this statement: have you ever heard of Close to My Heart. It's a consultant type company, i have fell in love with their products. I know you have your paper, etc; CTMH has a couple different layout books - they are like examples and tell you measurements to cut the paper, photos, etc. really easy to follow. if you are lucky maybe your library might have a copy? don't feel guilty just start something small and see how it goes. i have done some 9x9 albums of different events, trips; maybe it won't be as overwhelming?

So....back on track now. It's a struggle, really tough for me right now, my parents are both in Orlando, my mom's in the hospital having a tough recovery from her knee replacement surgery she had Wed and my dad found out he has to have his stomach removed b/c he has stomach cancer. This thread has really helped me when I want to grab the chip bag though - I've managed to keep pretty much away from it. And the exercise thread has kept me going on that end, so I'm going to learn to manage my stress differently.

my prayers with you and family too, i'm proud of you for being aware of your stress-eating and choosing to cope differently

I think it will also put me in a better place psychologically.

:thumbsup2 very inspiring you are -- seek alternatives rather than give up!

LOVE IT!

I know the weekend is half over and I'm a little late, but my stragegy for this weekend and hopefully the rest of this challenge is to plan out my meals.

funny you should mention planning meals......read on.....

I did hit a milestone of sorts this week. I have lost 30 pounds since joining the WW online program.

:cheer2: :cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

QOTD: Do you plan your meals ahead for the week? how does this help you?

I have recently begun planning out my meals on monday a.m. for the week. This helps me two-fold; first, i find myself digging in the pantry and finding ingredients that i've had on hand for quite some time and then I make use of them rather than just buying more and more groceries. secondly, helps me be aware of what we are eating for the week, i tend to plan healthier meals ahead rather than spur-of-moment what can I find quickly to throw together.

i didn't do so well yesterday, we went out to dinner late after church and besides eating late i had some fries. i did split a meal with my DD but i know i could've choosen better. i'm frustrated with myslef b/c i'm doing as i often do, procrastinating a REAL commitment and flying by the seat of my pants each day. what I need to do is commit to journaling M--F this week. is anyone else struggling there and want to commit with me? apparently i need a swift kick in the rear

but i will say that reading this has inspired me to just go change and do 2 mile WATP......thanks guys!

I'll commit to journalling with you. It makes all the difference for me. Even if I have no points left for the week, if I continue to journal every bite, I don't spiral completely out of control. This is my fourth day journalling, and I want to keep it up until the end of this challenge.

Great question of the day. If I'm on track, I always plan what I'll eat for the week over the weekend, before I go grocery shopping. I like to make something that will last me a few days. My favorite on program food is chili- I make a big pot and it lasts 4-5 days, since my son won't eat it. I'll throw a little on egg beaters in the morning, and have it with cheese for lunch and dinner. If I make chicken or steak, I cook extra, and will usually have potatoes and vegie with it, and have leftovers for lunch. I always have a few ww dinners in the freezer as a back up. I made a broccolli quiche with egg beaters, low fat cheese, and evaporated milk the other day, and it was great, so i'm going to make that again this week when the chili is gone. It definitely helps me to have the food in the house to cook after work. Some nights, if I'm out late, I'll just have cereal or oatmeal for dinner. My son gets the chicken nuggets on those nights.

It's great to read about your summer staying on program and not losing. I had stopped going to ww because I wasn't losing, and followed the program for about 7 months, with no real loss, but then I lost it, stopped exercising and gained back 15 of the 40 pounds I had lost. I think I have finally learned that this is a forever lifestyle change, and no matter how slow the loss it, I can't and won't gain it back again. Exercising regularly has really made a difference. Have a wonderful trip.

Off to get my work out in for this morning. I was planning on quilting last night but I just didn't feel like it. Ds1's girl friend is in Spain for the semester. Last night he mentioned that he was thinking of maybe going over to visit. I know her parents won't go. Her father just started a new job and her mother just had back surgery and is out of work so won't have the money. I don't know why I feel I don't want him to go. I know the money would be better saved for a different car he really wants. I also feel that he spends money too freely (eating out , movies etc) and I would feel better about him going if he had been more careful about his money in the last couple of months. But he is a great kid and since Nov has been working 2 jobs and some weeks he never had a day off. He graduated in May from college and at least he is working and in the field he graduated in. It also bothers me that I don't have any thing planned for this summer and if I have surgery for at least 2 weeks I have to sit with my foot elevated (doesn't sound like too much fun for me) I guess I am jealous that he gets a chance to do something I never had a chance to do when I was his age. Who ever went over seas for a semester of college 30 years ago:confused3 . I was too busy studying to be a teacher of math. I am pretty sure dh is going to encourage him to go because he talked about giving him a couple of hundred dollars to help pay for the trip. Ds also brought up that he was going to go in high school but the school cancelled the trip so I guess he is due to over.

Well I have quilting to do today and working on costumes for a local high school. Have a great day everyone.

I had to respond to this....
I know it's not my business and I don't have kids, but....

A few years ago I took a group of Girl Scouts to Europe. Along with two mother's who were chaperones.

At the end of the trip they gave me a little booklet they made with "thank you notes" The one that made me cry.... one of the mom's.

Her note read something like "when I was younger I had a choice of a trip to Europe or a car, I was scared and took the car. Over the years I have regretted that and now I know I was right to come with you and to push my daugther to come. The car's long gone. The memories will last forever"

Seriously if he can come up with the money give him a big hug and kiss and shove him out the door! (I am not saying you should finance it LOL!) There will always be a "new car" to buy later!

Sorry I haven't been keeping up. I have been at a meeting and my eating is HORRID! Dread getting on the scales next week!

Bad week for me, up 1.8. I did exercise, drink water and eat veggies though. Actually I weighed myself Thurday, made some really bad food choices Thursday night, and was up 4 pounds Friday! :faint:
There is NO WAY that you actually gained 4 lbs from Thursday morning to Friday morning. It *must* be water weight which you will lose by next week.

I'm thinking I'm going to have a big loss this week too. That will be motivating.:thumbsup2 The good side of that huge gain is it opened my eyes to what I ate.

heart4pooh - that's great that you're ready to travel already! Your weight gain is I'm sure fluid retention from your surgery - if it's not down already I'm sure it will be soon. Have a great time in FL!

And I agree, this thread is great. This and the exercise thread have kept me accountable, I find myself getting out veggies to make the cow, or filling my water glass again. I like this weeks...I've been trying to get to 6000 steps/day on my pedometer. That's pretty easy when I'm teaching but not so much on the weekends. For me, my stride is 1'11" so 5000 steps is about 2 miles. Sometimes at night if I'm a few hundred steps short I walk around the house to get there.

OhMom - thanks for telling me that you're proud of me. That warmed my heart.

Jennz, saying prayers for you and your family during this difficult time, hang in there, we love you!:grouphug:

QOTD: What can you do for yourself next week? something indulgent, a way to de-stress, some time to walk away from all that needs to be done and spend a little time pampering yourself, or enjoying a hobby that you don't seem to have time for?

I am going to try and do a little more scrapbooking, I have our Disney trip ready to be scrapbooked, I've only done a few pages and would like to knock off some more.

I did hit a milestone of sorts this week. I have lost 30 pounds since joining the WW online program.

HURRAY! So very happy for you!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: [/COLOR]

We are back from up north and it was COLD!:cold: Wind chill warnings and we were out ice fishing!:faint: It was a lot of fun being up at the cottage. my parents came too, and we played Monopoly, Gassy Gus, Mastermind, did arts and crafts with DD, watched a movie, and just hung out. It is fun to have the 3 generations just hanging out and spending time together!:grouphug:

Where my DH works, they are starting up a BL contest, and spouses are welcome, so guess who is signing up, and guess who is going to WIN!::yes:: I don't have the details yet, but I weigh in tomorrow and will find out the tidbits then, can't wait!

So I slept in late and decided to have a meal at Ruby Tuesday's. I thought I was being healthy by having a quiche and a bowl of soup. Got home and calculated the points- 26 points! I am going to the rec center on campus and working out, so I can at least earn some activity points.

:::::Warning::::::

Chocolate Chip cookie dough is not on the BLC!

I needed to just back away from the cookie dough but the magnetic pull just lured me closer.

I have to weigh in for WW in the morning and I so wanted today to be a limited food day because of it...,.UGH!!!

Thank God tomorrow is a new day!!

Just remember.....back away from the cookie dough.....back away!

Juanita

You are strong enough to back away. The cookie dough will be there tomorrow after WI and you can budget it with you points. You can do it! :thumbsup2

Hello Everyone! :wave2:

I just found you guys today and would be honored to be a part of this amazing group! I joined WW online last week - today is Day #7 and seem to be doing really well this time. I AM READY!! I really like the support that this group is giving out - JUST what I need!

My name is Bethany and my goal for the BL7 Challange is 20 pounds. I've only read through 35 pages of this thread (whew!) and will try to catch up with the rest by the end of the week! Tomorrow is my first WW weigh-in and I'm a little nervous. I've been really good all week and have been drinking LOTS of water and have practically given up soda (which is amazing to me - I was a 48 oz. a day Diet Dew girl!). Now I have 1 or 2 cans of Diet Sprite a WEEK instead!) :cool1:

I look forward to getting to know all of you, although, after reading 35 pages, I feel like you're all my best friends! :goodvibes

Take care and have a great week!!

Welcome Bethany!

Well, back from our weekend. Never did use the pool or the fitness room but I had an excuse--it was frigging coooollld. You had to go outside to get to both places--no jacuzzi no dice. Did well at the wedding, had a few appetizers, prime rib that was fantastic!. Oh went to the winery's taste room that was my favorite at the festival (oh the $8 included a cute wine glass) since it was weirdly in the same town the wedding was--45 minutes North of Portland--and pretty well got hammered again before the wedding...sigh..oh well went ok and got a great bottle of wine too ;-) It was so beautiful in Hood River and was snowing. All the waterfalls on the mountains were frozen--absolutely gorgeous. Did drink more at the wedding, but heck, wanted to have a good time and the bride and groom are also big fans of wine. Drove back to the hotel and went out because it was snowing. !! Went down to our favorite happy hour bar- things were strange and they were closing because 3 doors down there was a shooting at Kells, (a wonderful infamous Irish pub) 9 people shot and 2 women were killed. Night turned more than slightly surreal, cops everywhere, a swat team, etc. etc. We were freezing and just went back to the room. Today we just went home--sort of a sobering effect on our trip, it was all over the news. Did stop at a Burgerville on the way home and was definitely bad--talk about comfort food... Did go straight to the pool and soaked until lap/exercise swim and did the best I could considering the pool being packed. Just has a few triscuits and cheese with grapes and a glass of wine for dinner. I will not eat anything else tonight I guarantee it. I want to though, I'm hungry. Did have some lowfat yogurt and a waffle with orange juice at the hotel breakfast.

I always make time for a destress bath every couple days. I need it to stay sane. ;)

Oh - one other thing.

I did hit a milestone of sorts this week. I have lost 30 pounds since joining the WW online program.

Linda

Congrats on your milestone!

QOTD: Do you plan your meals ahead for the week? how does this help you?

Nope, not really, but I am trying to plan them the night before.

It was a busy weekend, and I loved the snow that fell here on Saturday. I was able to get out and shovel, no really all I did was push the shovel for about an hour of walking. We had 4 inches of lovely light fluffy snow and it was lovely out there. As I was pushing that shovel another 2 inches fell. I put in a lot of steps just walking back and forth with that shovel. It was peaceful.

I had a bit of a rough time with choices today b/c dessert was placed in front of me. I ate a piece of cake. We played Wii bowling and I cleaned house and helped to cook dinner for our friends. I figure at least I moved some.

Monday I'm at the surgery center for endoscopy and dilitation. I don't know if I'll be doing a lot of exercising, but I will do my best to make good eating choices.

Keep trying everyone. One thing at a time.

:cheer2:
