Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a great weekend! And hopefully everyone is going to have a losing week this week!

I work early tomorrow, so if you don't mind I will post Mondays QOTD now.

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

Well, I am a teaching intern. It both helps and hurts. I do lots of phsyical activity with my kids (I teach K-6 special ed). We do jumping jacks to spell words. I have a numbers chart I laid out in colored masking tape on the floor and we use it to hop our numbers when we skip count. I do it along with the kids. On the flip side, my student with autism cooks every Friday for his life skills class, and it is rarely healthy. This week was no bake cookies.

I don't get paid, so on Saturdays I work in Hy Vees Kitchen. This definitely hinders my effort. I typically don't get my lunch until 7 hours into an 8 hour shift so I end up sneaking bites (we all do). Not to mention it's all fried unhealthy food.

The other part of it is going six days a week with only one off day which is typically spent planning lessons and working on my research leaves me absolutely exhausted. I end up not feeling like cooking and get something very unhealthy instead. I also end up not working out because I feel like crap. Part of this is also due to my blood sugar problems (it really exhausts me.)

I'm not quite caught up, but I wanted to post my response to Saturday's QOTD. It was fun to answer and then I asked my DH to see what his answers were. It was fun to see how many of our answers were the same! :3dglasses

Favorite park: tie between MK and Epcot
Favorite ride at Mk: Space mountain
Favorite ride at Epcot: Soarin
Favorite ride at MGM: Toy Story Mania and Tower of Terror
Favorite ride at AK: Safari

Favorite snack: chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich (main st. bakery)
Favorite people watching spot: Main street
Favorite show: Tarzan rocks and Wishes
Favorite parade: Spectromagic
Favorite character: Maleficent
Favorite restaurant: Ohana and Boma
Favorite Resort: Pop Century
Favorite special event (MNSSHP, MVMCP, Night of Joy etc): Never been to any, but I really want to go to MNSSHP
Favorite souvenir: all my pins and our Christmas stockings
Favorite place to shop: The World Showcase
Favorite country at EPCOT: That's a hard one... probably be England - mostly because I've been there IRL and it takes me down memory lane

Hope everyone has a Great week!!

wow, I can see how travel can really goof you up. I think that is great that you got out to do some running while on vacation. And that local race sounds kind of fun. Did you have to run through the river? What about your shoes? Yikes, I can't imagine running in wet feet/shoes.

I wish I had been on vacation. It was travel for work so I was unfortunately away from my dw and dd for those days which makes it harder too.

The local race was a lot of fun. Yes, we did have to run through the river to cross it. They had a rope going across for us to hold and several coast guard folks there to help us.

I was concerned about running in wet shoes and socks. A lot of people took them off first. I thought it might be a little worse putting my sandy feet back in them so I left them on. It was a lot better than I thought. The last two miles after that were on the beach so it was at least a soft surface. It might have been a lot worse on pavement.

Good morning everyone. I did okay this weekend. Sat was spent at the local highschool working on costumes for their musical at the end of the month. I got in over 8000 steps . Sunday we went to church and then drove ds2 back to school . Eating wasn't too bad but I had a headache all day yesterday. I woke up this morning without one but I have an inservice day today and it will come back as soon as the people leading us this morning start talking.

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

I am a high school math teacher where I teach Advanced PLacement Calculus. I will be in nervous mode for the next 3 months until they take their test.

Once you get a schedule you can work your eating around that until we have a day off or exams. I do get some extra walking in this year since i have cafeteria duty with almost 500 kids. They are better if they never know where or when you are going to be by their table. The bad part is many of the offices always seem to have food.

HAve a great day everyone.

It seems like you really have this figured out! Reading your post reminds me that I need to take my vitamins.

OT, but were you the one who knows Heba? I remember someone here on the DIS knows Heba and they are from NC. If so, did you ever ask her about her dress and "the girls"?

I have never been one to take vitamins until a few months ago but I can tell a difference when I go a few days without them (if I run out before payday;) ).

I'm not the one that knew Heba...I remember there was someone on that was going to be asking that question but don't remember hearing anything else about it.

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?[/COLOR]

I'm a SAHM and homeschool our two kids. Somedays are harder than others being so close to the kitchen everyday. Our floor plan is an open area that includes our kitchen, dining area and living area and this is where we are 90% of our day when at home. The first few weeks of trying to get back on track was very difficult...I now though keep some raw almonds around in case I hit the urge so that I can grab 3-4 and a big glass of water and then I'm fine. The hardest time seems to be in the afternoon, once we are finished with school and before I need to start dinner. I have started sitting down with my cross-stitch or crochet for a few minutes and that keeps my hands busy and my mind off of the kitchen.

Forgot to tell you that my b-day is Wednesday, and my DH bought me a Wii Fit and my DS gave me the Outdoor Adventure game for the Wii (got them both this morning since I had to shop for DH since he still can't drive). DS and I played for a long time this morning - boy, am I aching all over! But it's been a long time since we laughed that hard and made fools of ourselves like that! This will definitely be part of my every day workout!!

Happy early birthday:bday: glad you had fun with your presents...I'm still waiting to get my Wii Fit.

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?
I am a nurse and work in a busy endoscopy unit, so being on my feet literally all day definitely helps. I was really surprised when I left ICU after many years that I was so much more active in my new job than I was in Icu. The food that people bring in is what hinders me at work, and the lorna doone cookies that we serve to the patients in recovery always call my name. Often there is a bowl of candy in the kitchen, and if I'm working recovery, I'm in that kitchen getting drinks and snacks all day long. If I'm short on restraint, I'll often put the bowl up in the cabinet so I don't have to look at it, until someone else takes it out.

Vija, is there usually lots of food hanging around your break room too? It's great for me if the food is in the break room, because it's away from the unit, so I'm only in there for my lunch break, and I bring lunch, so it's easy to avoid.

Wow am I super tired tonight - I worked my butt off today. I got to our High School at 9:30am this morning and didn't leave till about 5pm. Mostly I sold 50/50 tickets, I was supposed to originally work the snack stand, but they needed someone to sell tickets. I sold over $500 worth, so we made $250!! Our gym is two tiered, so I was up and down the stairs, up and down the bleacher's and squating down and getting back up all day. I'm sore tonight and I know my muscles are going to ACHE tomorrow - but I know I burned tons of calories today.

Food wasn't good today because I had to eat in between dropping the money and tickets off - then we went to taco bell when DH got home from his weekend duty at Air National Guards. I didn't get to grocery shop, and was busy all weekend long so no time to cook, even if there was food. I will do better and I hope this weekend didn't ruin the fact that I had caught up. I will work hard to make the next 5 days be SPOT ON! I can do it! I'll be happy to lose anything this week.

I have another competition next week on Saturday. My husband is leaving for a two week military event in Tampa next Friday. So I will have my son, we will be traveling to another school - about 45 to an hour away. I really need some ideas of food that doesn't need to be cooked. Maybe some healthy salad type thing with whole grain, veggies etc. I'd like no meat too. Mabye something with rice or quinoa - but that is tasty too - that can be eaten cold. Maybe I can find something with sweet potatoes and rice? Hmm - maybe I can just add some olive oil too it and eat it cold. I wonder what that would taste like.

I'm cutting out cold cuts and stuff like that so I'd rather just have something with a whole grain, veggies etc. Maybe I can also bring some frozen fruit that I can eat as a snack after it thaws. It can help keep my food cool in the bag
You can definitely make up for the weekend by staying on for 5 days. Don't do what I did last week, and continued my horrid weekend eating into another 4 days.
I love to throw black beans and nuts in my salads, and often I'll chop some fruit- strawberries or apples to mix it up. The kraft fat free cheddar cheese is pretty good too. I haven't tried, but my sister loves the walden farms no calorie salad dressings.

Elementary teacher, here. I'm on my feet most of the day with the grade 1's and 2's, and I always have hot tea/water and cold water on hand because schools are always dry (that's helpful). Also. I snack at recess (banana) and save something for last recess, too. So, foodwise, the job helps. Unfortunately, by the time the day is over, I am emotionally exhausted. I know that walking would help the exhaustion, but . . . Also, we have Wake Up Wednesday. I've been really good throughout January, not choosing much, and what I do choose is usually fruit, veggies, maybe a couple of crackers and some (less than an ounce) of cheese. Because of the daily routine, though, I find the weekend hard!
:worship: :worship: :worship: My son is in first grade, and I volunteer in his class one morning a week, and you teachers are just amazing. There are so many different little personalities, and I find it amazing that the teachers can keep them all in control, and they all get their individualized teaching time. This year has been awesome seeing all that my son is learning.

Happy Birthday!! :flower3: I've only heard great things about the wii fit. Enjoy it!!

Have a great monday!:)

This weekend has been a DISASTER for food! Quickly popping in in hopes that admitting it will get me back on track.

DD17 is still out of school...since 1/30, with severe left/center lower abdominal pain. I am anxiously awaiting the chance to call & schedule an ultrasound.....finally!! Pain meds, antibiotics, yeast meds have not touched whatever it is.

I truly ate anything & everything this weekend out of stress...No, it did not help. Yes, I felt better temporarily. I'm going a bit nuts here as she is NOT a good patient & is calling out to me about every 5 - 8 minutes about something. No time to exercise, etc.

I'll try to pop in again later. Hopefully I have not done too much damage!!

QOTD: I have a desk job doing medical billing, so I don't get much exercise during the day. It certainly doesn't help. I have been trying to get up a little more. I also take the stairs in the morning and try to get in a break and go up and down the three flights of stairs a couple of times.

Is there a COW challenge this week? This thread goes so fast that it's hard for me to keep up-Thanks!

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

I work at the local hospital doing EMS work, and worst of all I work 7pm to 7am. I would say it hurts my weightloss efforts in the fact when we get to eat it's whatever is fast and open.

Wow lots of nurses here! I'm not one though. :) I'm a instructional assistant for a resource teacher. It helps because I get about 5000 steps in per day, it hurts because I really want to stress eat when the kids get crazy! Like today - I went to Arby's for lunch and got a roast beef and jalapeno poppers. I'd even brought my lunch but I just had to get out and I wanted something fried. It was yum! Fortunately I don't do that very often.

QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

I am a grants professional, and it certainly doesn't help. I spend most of my time seated at a computer. I do have to go out of the office for meetings, so I will frequently walk downtown (about 2 miles), but I don't usually do that for "fun", just when I have somewhere to go. My office is on the 4th floor of a building without an elevator, so that actually is helpful. I know I'm going up and down 4 flights of stairs at least once every day! A colleague and I do get out when it's nice and walk for about 1/2 an hour, but if there's rain, snow, ice, it's not happening.

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

I'm a bank teller. I spend all day typing on a computer and counting money in a very small space. Not much chance for movement. Of course considering we have to wear heels and business attire moving is not always that comfortable.

Is there a COW challenge this week? This thread goes so fast that it's hard for me to keep up-Thanks!

I haven't seen a new one posted so I assume just continue the same as last week. I don't think I've even seen Raenstoirm posting in the last few days. Hopefully everything is okay.

Monday QOTD: I'm a Lab Supervisor in an MDF plant (industrial plant). So its good in that I can easily get 5000 steps a day. Its bad when I let myself "run away" at lunch. A big part of how I got overweight, is being to tired to make a proper lunch and/or getting stressed at work and needing to go escape for lunch. The only place close enough to leave work for lunch is A&W, which is okay once in a while, but not 2-3 times a week.

Wow, alot of interesting jobs we all have. It is also interesting to see how the jobs can hurt or help our weight loss efforts. Despite the challenges we each face, I think we are all doing great, and deserve a pat on the back!:thumbsup2

Maybe I can also bring some frozen fruit that I can eat as a snack after it thaws. It can help keep my food cool in the bag

I am not sure what else to suggest, I was actually going to say to bring some frozen fruit! LOVE frozen strawberries. BUT BE CAREFULL! They get very runny as they thaw and I would hate to see any red "dribbles" for you.

Forgot to tell you that my b-day is Wednesday, and my DH bought me a Wii Fit and my DS gave me the Outdoor Adventure game for the Wii (got them both this morning since I had to shop for DH since he still can't drive). Happy Early Birthday!:goodvibes Enjoy the Wii Fit, I think I am going to invest in one of those soon.

I'm not quite caught up, but I wanted to post my response to Saturday's QOTD. It was fun to answer and then I asked my DH to see what his answers were. It was fun to see how many of our answers were the same! :3dglasses
Favorite special event (MNSSHP, MVMCP, Night of Joy etc): Never been to any, but I really want to go to MNSSHP

what a neat idea to see what your spouse answers back. I'll have to ask him the questions too. I hope you can get to MNSSHP, I went 2 years in a row and it was AWESOME!!!!

The local race was a lot of fun. Yes, we did have to run through the river to cross it. They had a rope going across for us to hold and several coast guard folks there to help us.

Wow, I am amazed you had to run through the river, that is really interesting. And I guess 2 miles isn't too far, and not much different than when runners run when it is raining. I say good for you!:thumbsup2
Vija, is there usually lots of food hanging around your break room too? It's great for me if the food is in the break room, because it's away from the unit, so I'm only in there for my lunch break, and I bring lunch, so it's easy to avoid.
Actually it isn't too bad, there are days that people bring stuff in, but I am usually so busy, that I can't get in there.

This weekend has been a DISASTER for food! Quickly popping in in hopes that admitting it will get me back on track.

Ok, first of all, hugs to you and your DD:hug: I can't even imagine not knowing what is causing her pain, and not being able to do anything to help her.:guilty: That just stinks. Hope you get your answers soon.

As far as your eating goes, try and slow down, and think before you eat.... Do I really need this, do I really want this? Think it through and wait a minute or 2. And tomorrrow is another day, we are all here for you!

Is there a COW challenge this week? This thread goes so fast that it's hard for me to keep up-Thanks!

I don't think so, so keep doing what you are doing!

Oh my, I can't even imagine being in heels all day long, my feet would be crying after the first hour.:scared:

I actually did pretty good today! I am proud of that. I knew that my calorie count had been increasing daily, and I needed to nip it in the bud. So today I planned low calorie lunch and dinner and before dinner put it into sparkpeople. I really want to try and keep it between 1500-1600 calories/day. For today I am right on!:thumbsup2 and I am off to TaeKwonDo class tonight.

I also stopped at the store and picked up more fresh fruits, and healthy snacks. I am happy about that.

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

I am an attorney. I would say it hurts my weight loss efforts because I am stuck at a desk all day and if I don't exercise in the morning, I won't get any exercise because I am so mentally and physically exhausted when I get home.

I have a lot of flexibility in my job because I am self employed and I am really trying to move myself up on the hierarchy of the to do list. I must keep telling myself that I can't take care everyone else if I don't take care of myself. Repeat as needed . . . .

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?
hmm, we weren't allowed to watch much as young children-older & teen years we watched all the things that are reruns now (LOL) like family ties, family matters, etc- stuff like those shows (pretty much anything that's rerun now especially late at night- we watched that LOL)
We weren't allowed to munch- not much in the way of snacks. Our parents were mega-strict on snacking, sweets, soda, etc. (which is why I think I rebelled once out of the house and became a junkfood and sweets-aholic. LOL
Unfortunately it didn't cause me any weightgain until I had children. LOL I got away with it for years though!
now, I don't snack while watching tv- since I'm trying to lose weight. But when I wasn't trying to lose weight? Sure- all the time. :rotfl: But I sure clarify I mean while on the computer and LISTENING to tv. I don't really do much watching tv- I multitask and only listen to tv while on the computer. LOL

We did watch a fair bit of TV - Dukes of Hazzard, Family Ties, Cosby Show, and then in high school it was Beverly Hills 90210. There wasn't lots of snacking though. Popcorn with a little melted butter with water to drink was the main snack around our house.:goodvibes
