Welcome to the WISH Biggest Loser 7 Challenge

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?

I did and still do watch anything disney, I have now alson incorperated ABC family, TLC, and ABC Sunday and Thursday nights. i don't remember snacking, but I do always try to get water or tea in my hand. If it's in my hand I drink it, then get more, drink it, then get more (you get the picture). ;)

Hello, fellow losers!

Well, I shouldn't say fellow losers, cause this week I'm a poser. :guilty: The scale is definitely heading in the WRONG direction. So, I took control today, and this will be a better week! ::yes::

Princess V, way to go on planning ahead! :thumbsup2

Good Tuesday morning
HOw is everyone this morning. It was fairly warm here this morning and it is supposed to get warmer today and tomorrow here in jersey. YOu could feel spring. It was great.

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?

I am a little older than some of the pp. I watched The Lucy SHow, Red Skelton, Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres. I remember after school watching Mike Douglas of course that was after we watched Edge Of Night (a soap on at 4 every afternoon). For Christmas I got both parents a copy of a dvd of Mike Douglas clips. They really had no reaction but I also got one for me and it really surprised me to watch it. He had some really important people on lie John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Martin Luther King and many other peopleof the 60's and 70's. There is a great clip with him Bob Hope and a VERY young Tiger Woods.

Well off to school. Busy day. HAve to finish grades and do lesson plans and then after school I have to give a student who is sick her midterm. I won't be home until 5:30 tonight.

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?

That is a fun question. Dona, my mother always watched edge of night too!
We loved Lost in Space, Brady Bunch, Partridge family, and as I got into the early teen years, my favorite was the Hardy Boys with Shaun Cassidy. We also watched the Match Game show, and I remember playing game shows with my brothers and sisters, and my oldest sister was always the host. I don't remember snacking as a kid watching tv, it seems we only snacked in the kitchen, and there were usually cheez-its, or air popped popcorn with butter and salt. I do snack now while watching tv, and late evenings is the worst for me. If I want to watch a show, but find myself starting to fall asleep, I tend to eat to stay awake. One of those bad habits that is hard to break for me.

Thanks for the fun question, it got me reminiscing.

Tuesday QOTD:

When we were little we watched The Wonderful World of Disney, of course, Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Lost in Space, and, my favorite, Alias Smith and Jones.

We didn't snack much watching t.v., maybe popcorn everyone once in awhile. I try not to snack watching t.v., have a magazine to read to keep my hands busy. Our bad family snack time was "nibbles" time a/k/a happy hour where there would be snacks out for an hour before dinner. I still fight the nibbles problem :rotfl:

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!!:yay: It's cloudy but warmish and humid here in southern NJ, and I heard what sounded like spring birdies chirping this morning, so it gives me hope that spring is just around the corner.:)

My usual morning routine is to watch a little news while sipping my coffee, for around an hour, while lounging in bed, as I am NOT a morning person! Today, after sitting there for about 30 minutes, I decided that before I can head downstairs, I must do some walking on the treadmill, so I jumped on for 25 minutes and walked 3/4 of a mile.

While that isn't a huge accomplishment, I have to take the working out easy due to a connective tissue disorder that I have. That being said, I have decided to take control of my life and my weight, since my docs can't tell me for certain if working out will hurt or help me. I will play it by ear and see how it goes.

I'm thinking of trying alternating walking with some mild weight lifting on alternate days. My muscles seem to burn energy much more quickly than what is normal, causing increased pain due to an increased rate of my muscle tissue breakdown. It's like, it I walk for 30 minutes briskly, my muscles react as if I walked for 3 hours.

Anyway, here are my answers to yesterday's and today's QOTD.

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

I am an RN, and when I was working at least three 12 hour shifts weekly in the ER, I maintained my weight with no problem. When I switched to working the ICU, it was harder to maintain, as we always had great snacks that my fellow nurses would bring in, and we usually actually got breaks to eat, as opposed to never getting breaks in the ER. When I got a little older and this muscle thing started, I transferred to Case Management, which consists of sitting ALOT, and the weight started creeping on, plus I was thrown into menopause due to having to have a complete hysterectomy at the age of 42, which didn't help matters.:sad2:

Now I pretty much can't work at all, as I can't do any one activity, whether it be sitting, standing, typing, etc., for more than 30 minutes at a time without it causing problems, so I try to keep busy at home doing things that only require minor activity, such as digi-scrapping, or quilting, with very light housework thrown in. The advantage of being home is that I can take a break when I have to, which is something that I could not do at work. The disadvantage is that the refrigerator is easily accesible, and my activity level as far as burning calories goes is almost non-existent.

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?

This is a great and very fun question!:goodvibes I don't remember snacking as a child or teen. My mom was a stay-at-home mom, and always cooked our dinners, but we never, ever had dessert unless it was a Sunday and we were having company. We're just not dessert people. Food, now that's another matter. There was always plenty of that;) , and the main thing I recall my Italian speaking grandmother always saying was "mangia, mangia"!

I use to rush home after school when I was in around 5th grade, to watch Dark Shadows.:scared1: I loved that show! In the evening I would watch The Lucy Show, Green Acres, Bewitched, Family Affair, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color (man, do I miss that show)! Andy Griffith, The Beverly Hillbillies, My Three Sons, The Doris Day Show, The Bill Cosby Show, Carol Burnett, and so many more. Maybe if shows like this were still on instead of the trash that we see every time we change a channel, our country would be in a better place right now.:sad1:

Hear Ye Hear Ye, the Weightkeeper speaks

Good morning losers. After 5 weeks I'm glad you are still here on the journey. There is much to celebrate this week. Every pound, even a fraction of a pound gone is a celebration. Even though we have 46 successes to celebrate we also have 30 struggles to evaluate. So many losses, gains and maintains with so many stories to tell. Yes life happens, yes every week will not be perfect. The question is what are you doing to make up for it? I know with hard work you can achieve your goals.

Let's take a look at what the number say for week 5

beginning participants--113
new members------------4
removed----------------10
current participants----107
excused-----------------2
initial weights------------2
not reporting 1 week----16
not reporting 2 weeks---11
weigh ins---------------76
gains---(23.6 lbs)-------16
maintains---------------14
losses----(72.5)--------46

Wish Biggest Loser 7 Week 5
week 4 cumulative net loss 594.3
week 4 late gain 0.8 pounds
less losses from those removed from challenge 16.1 pounds
weekly net loss 48.9 pounds
Cumulative net loss 626.3 pounds
week 5 average percentage of weight lost 0.33%

Before the weekly superstar list come the disclaimers.

**I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference the magic percentage of weight lost formula is (weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week) times 100.

**If you miss a week and return with a loss your percentage is adjusted to reflect missing one week.

**If you gain and then post a loss your percentage is adjusted. If your loss is less than last week's gain then you are not named a superstar because you are still working to lose the gain.

Now to the good part. Were you a superstar this week???

I hope you are still reading for the good news and the bad news. I myself always like the bad news first so I can get over it and then get excited about the good news.

The bad news
I am going out of town so next weeks official announcement will not be posted until Friday, February 20. Stay tuned, it may be earlier, or it may not. Please send in your weight reports as usual. I will have internet access and will be using the blasted laptop. I am not too comfortable on it but it is better than nothing.

The Good news
Friday the 13ths weight report will mark the half way point of our challenge. I promise to have fun trivia to share about where we are at our half way point. I have promised this list with our last BL and it never happened but I WILL have it ready for you by the 20th. The list will recognize our overall superstars and also top pound losers. We will also celebrate perfect attendance and name the turtles that are working slowly and steadily at losing weight.

So losers I will not report again until Friday, February 20 and it will be a doozie. Until then you better keep working hard. Don't forget to send in that weight report. Remember to report the number of pounds you weight. No apologies to me are ever necessary. That's YOUR number on the scale. Own it and do what you need to do to do something about it. Remember we are not here to be the Biggest Maintainer or the Biggest 'oops had a bad week'er. We are here to be LOSERS. Get to work and make it happen. You know you can do it. Love yourself this Valentine's Day and continue your healthy lifestyle.

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?

I feel like I am a lot younger than a lot of the PPs. I am very familiar with most of the shows that have been mentioned, but they were mostly in re-runs of the Nick at Night variety when I started watching them. They were what my parents liked and they knew they didn't have to worry about content. Dragnet was one of my favorites. I also watched a lot of Disney Channel (oh wait, I still do but it's not the same). I was never a dedicated fan of any show, but I did love Saved by the Bell. Oh, and for you 90210 lovers, it was filmed at my high school. But that was before my time.

We were definitely snackers as kids. It was my mom's fault--she was the enabler, but I loved every bite of it. But for the most part, the snacks generally weren't too bad. Things like crackers with sliced cheese, apples and ham. I'm still a snacker. I'm the type of person that doesn't have specific cravings, but rather "something salty" or "something sweet." Unfortunately, as it gets later at night it becomes a cycle of salty, sweet, salty, sweet.

Congratulations Shelley!

I've did well yesterday and pretty well today... until dinner. It was premium night in the dorms so my friend treated me to dinner. I can never seem to eat healthy when I go to the dorms. Oh well, it's water unde the bridge and tomorrow I will definitely get in a work out. I am determined to be a superstar this week. Maybe I will walk around the school during my break.

What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weightloss efforts?

I'm an RN. I did pretty good with my weight when I worked evening shift, but when I went to night shift 3 years ago, I gained a lot. I was basically adding a 4th meal to my day. I finally realized that all the skinny people on the shift never eat at work! Now if I really need something at work, I have a piece of toast or an apple dipped in peanut butter, but I don't pack a full meal anymore. I try to fuel my body with sleep instead of food, so I've started taking a nap after work even on days that I don't have to go back in to work that night.

What TV shows did you watch growing up? Did you snack while watching TV when you were little? Do you snack now?

I watched Family Ties, Cosby Show, Punky Brewster, Silver Spoons, Different Strokes, and lots of others. We were big on TV and snacking. My mom always bought lots of treats from the Butternut Store. I probably ate Suzy Q's every day. We had brownies for dinner every Sunday night after church, and I didn't know that was weird until I went to college! We also had chewy bars for dinner sometimes, from the recipe on the side of the Jiffy yellow cake mix box. Obviously I've been struggling with my weight my whole life! If I snack while watching TV now, it's usually apple slices or goldfish crackers, nothing too evil! I don't watch much TV since I usually nap after dinner on nights I have to go to work, but I do watch on Monday nights (Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother).

Congrats to all the losers this week. I made the top 10 2 weeks in a row! Yeah!:yay: I probably won't be able to exercise tomorrow because I'm taking a class all day from 7:45 til 5:00 and it's 45 minutes away. My mom is coming to watch the kids til I get home because DH has to work late, so it will probably be frozen pizza for dinner. We had brownies last week when she visited, and I can't do that again!

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a great weekend! And hopefully everyone is going to have a losing week this week!

I work early tomorrow, so if you don't mind I will post Mondays QOTD now.

Monday QOTD: What do you do for a job, and does it help or hurt your weight loss efforts?

It hurts, in many ways, I am a former desk jockey turned waitress. I serve in a 3 floor restaurant, the kitchen is on the 1st floor and I work on 2nd or 3rd floor. It helps getting the steps in but we serve really good food so that does not help. Our chef's motto is "don't be afraid of butter" enough said.

Tuesday QOTD:

Another something fun! What TV shows did you watch growing up? And did you snack while watching TV when you were little? And do you snack now?

I watched Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, Laverne & Shirley, Love Boat, Fantasy Island (can you say child of the 70's?) I ate chips or popcorn I think, I don't really remember, that's sad, it could have been really bad or really good, just doesn't stand out in my mind.

Hello everyone,

It was a rough weekend, my son had the flu, he ended up in the hospital on Saturday. Word of warning, get the flu shot! This is no joke, I was scared and left with vending machines all around. I made it through with lots of water and pretzels. I really wanted the chips, stress eating.

He is home now and doing well, back to normal activities which include but are not limited to driving us all crazy.

I hope to do well this week but have not been able to take care of me because DS needed me to be there for him 24/7. Tomorrow it's all about me.

Wow. I didn't think I'd win! I knew I had a good week but I'd looked back thru the weeks and they were so great I thought I might make the list but not WIN! wow.....
Well, if it's any consolation to everyone else- my weight has basically stayed the same since Friday! I haven't figured out why but I've hit a mini-stall. And I'm not cheating, not changing my water intake, etc. I haven't figured out why but I hope I break this mini-stall soon. LOL
No chance I'll win the next one- probably won't even make the list! LOL So I better enjoy this win.... I always lose great the first month (this time 22lbs) and then it slows way down. not liking this stall staying the same weight though... that's a little TOO SLOW for my taste. LOL
I gotta figure out how to put that banner in my sig line!
:)

Good Wednesday Morning (I almost wrote Tuesday where did the day go)

Congrats Shelly on being on top. THat must be a really good feeling.

Helen I hope your son feels better soon. It is tough taking care of little ones.

Yesterday was very busy. I left my house at 6:15 yesterday morning and didn't get home until 5:30. BUt I didn't have time to snack after school so that was a good thing.

I h ave been eating a light breakfast the last couple of days but it is not agreeing with my tea I have in the morning. Because of how light the breakfast is the caffeine in the tea really bothered me yesterday. I need to remember to have decaf tea or green tea. I also ate a better breakfast today.

Today I have a letter of recommendation to do and put my grades into the computer system so I better get moving.

Have a great day every one. Even though there is no official COW for the week I have been keeping up with the last COW. It has been keeping me on track. I didn't walk this morning but it is supposed to be warm here this afternoon so I will do it then.

This week is going pretty well so far...have been continuing on with the COW, just not making the 10K steps if we don't get a walk in. We did four straight so took yesterday off. DH is skiing today but I'm hoping to get some time in while he is away.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!!
