Welcome Home!............Now Get Out!

This has happened to us twice now. I am not a morning person, and I need sleep also due to a disability. 3rd time this happens I will most likely resemble the Tasmanian devil lol

From the agreement between WALT DISNEY PARKS AND RESORTS U.S. and THE SERVICE TRADES COUNCIL UNION

"The Company agrees to allow AM Housekeepers who clean rooms and successfully complete their daily section size , with forty-five (45) minutes or less remaining on their shifts, to leave and be compensated for the balance of their shift".

So if they complete their section, and have 45 minutes remaining on their shift, they can wheel the cart back to storage, do whatever must be done to secure the cart, punch out, and still keep the $6.67 for the 45 minutes they weren't actually cleaning a room. I hope they don't spend it all in one place.

Hey, I'm just reporting the facts. Storage is on the floor where they work and the wage rate is $10.59 - 14.87. Disney isn't known for overpaying their people.

I just don't understand how some people can be such pigs. We had a GV once for our son's HS graduation. He had eight friends along and the girls in the group were total pigs. I was embarrassed to have the housekeepers do trash and towel in the rooms upstairs so I gathered the trash and the towels and put them up myself. On the day we left, I told them they had to leave the room emptied with the sheets off the beds and towels thrown into the tubs, which they did. I can only imagine what their rooms look like at home or at college.

I totally get this. We had the opposite. We have boy/girl twins who invited two friends each when they were 17. Total of 6. The three boys were wild pigs and, in fact, tore the shower curtains. I took all three of them to the front desk to confess what they had done and asked for a bill of damage so I could send it to their parents. One darling snowflake was my own, and I fully intended to reimburse for his share of the damage. The manager was nice, did not bill us, but I emailed every parent with pictures about their darling 17 yr old snowflake. As you can tell, I was livid. Then I made them clean the entire grand villa - trash out, towels in the bath piled up, sheets off the bed, etc... even from the girls room. Also made them load the luggage in the car. Never again. Family only.

Bill has a point. Seems like this incentivizes housekeeping CMs to cut corners and skate a bit early.

Both parties agreed to the condition so not really sure where fingers should be pointed. But if you've ever found yourself wondering why some cleanliness issue wasn't properly addressed by housekeeping, this is one factor to consider. Seems very easy to abuse, at the expense of hotel guests and DVC members.

Plus all sorts of benefits like health insurance, discounts, vacation time, park admission for them and guests. It all adds up.

Oh yeah---at $19,000 per year, they sure are living high on the hog. And they get park admission (which costs Disney nothing)! And they can bring in guests---who then spend money in the park! And even a vacation! Wow! I'm sorry I went to law school. Room cleaning for Disney seems like a much more lucrative career.

I guess what bothers me the most about this is that they are so extremly competent (and annoying) in trying to get into your room to clean the room the day you are leaving, but, in our case, have failed during our last three visits to show up for a full cleaning day when we were staying 8 nights or more. Apparently, those cleaning days have no similar high priority on their list of things to do.

I put the tag on the door and they don't knock, or if they do it is closer to 11. They shouldn't be knocking as long as the tag is there.

But if you forget to put the tag on the door, or you don't have a tag, they will knock by 9 AM or shortly thereafter. DVC or not DVC.

Seems like with so many people using MDE, they should be able to give housekeepers a list of rooms With people checking out early.

As far as housekeepers leaving early, I think finishing early SHOULD be rewarded.

It seem to me it is in Disney's interest to incentivize the housekeepers to be speedy, so that the rooms will be available as early as possible. Of course, that is not to say that speed should take priority over effectiveness.

I'm not real clear on this but apparently there is an incentive program that if the housekeeper cleans a room above the number of their assigned section rooms they get a paid bonus.

Check out rooms
studio - $13.00
1 bed - $22.00
2 bed - $35.00

Sounds strange to me. I'd assume Disney has enough employees to clean all the rooms. So if a housekeeper is done with her assigned rooms, she then calls her supervisor, who assigns her another room that has already been assigned to another housekeeper? Then they pay that housekeeper a sum over and above what they are paying the original housekeeper to clean the room?

Sorry this happened to you. I have been fortunate and never had someone knock on my door on check out day.

It has only happened to me at BWV, that I remember. It was very annoying, several years ago now. I told them I would leave at 11, but they (different ones?) knocked 3 times! As I left, one was waiting in the hall for me to leave. It was 10:48. I don't know if she had finished all her other rooms, or very few people were checking out that day. Definately felt the "hurry up and get out". But that was the only time I remember.

If they have families, it's an opportunity to visit the parks that they might not have otherwise. The housekeepers know what they are making and the work they will be doing when they take the job.

Working at an incentive rate has been the death of many manufacturing businesses. Corners are cut and quality suffered. I see no difference in cleaning rooms. It takes so much time to thoroughly clean a room at a normal pace where safety is not compromised. You do your job to the best of your ability and then go home when the day is done. Nothing good can come from the policy that Disney gas in place

Checked out of AKV Jambo 2 bedroom on Friday, and we did get a knock at around 8. I mentioned that we were going to be in the room until 11, and that was that. The morning was beautiful, my sister and I really enjoyed our last morning swim! We were out on schedule!

I don't doubt any of the horrible experiences every one has had, but I must be the luckiest person around. All my rooms have been if not perfect completely acceptable, any minor issues I've had have always been addressed professionally and expediently, all the housekeepers I have dealt with have been friendly. That morning phone call is not that bad you simply pick up the receiver and say hello, no one responds but that's ok really does not affect my day. Try being nice to all the workers maybe even leave a tip, if you see them the day before you can let them know if your leaving late. You can even call mousekeeping the day before you check out and let them know you have a late flight and will be sleeping in.
This of course has nothing to do with OP, given an unacceptable room I would demand they find me something somewhere! In all other matters I've found patience and kindness gets better results. I'm on vacation and see no need to stress over little things.
