Welcome Home!............Now Get Out!

We did get a knock b4 11 even with the privacy tag on the door. Then the housekeeper started grilling me about when we were leaving, even though she should have been able to see by all our packed bags, some of which hubby was taking to the car at the time, that we were leaving (and could have done so even quicker if she'd just left us to it, duh!) So I said we were leaving as soon as we got our bags to the car, and she goes, "Seven? No one told me you were staying until seven!" Clearly she could barely speak/understand English. So besides harassing me, wasting our time, and blocking our way out the door (she was actually trying to push into the room), she caused stress as I was then worried she would falsely tell them we were staying until "seven" and cause us to get charged for another day! Of course I reiterated what I had said to begin with, but I had no trust that she'd understand. So I had to waste more time calling guest services to let them know we were checking out when we needed to be on the road. Contrast to our weekend stay at the B Resort, where the housekeeper on our last morning knocked (not too early!) and said she thought we had called, and did we need anything (hence I got to ask for a couple xtra Aveda shampoos, nice!) This was clearly a pretense to see if the guests were about ready to vacate, but done in a much more graceful and sophisticated way.

never had a knock when my tag is out.

But then, although I can sleep in on days we are staying, on days we are leaving I am always out by 7 or 8am to catch the flight.

Glad I read this thread again, won't forget to put the privacy tag out. Last day at any resort, guests are typically rushing the last 15 minutes to gather the bags, finish the packing, etc.

I don't doubt any of the horrible experiences every one has had, but I must be the luckiest person around. All my rooms have been if not perfect completely acceptable, any minor issues I've had have always been addressed professionally and expediently, all the housekeepers I have dealt with have been friendly. That morning phone call is not that bad you simply pick up the receiver and say hello, no one responds but that's ok really does not affect my day. Try being nice to all the workers maybe even leave a tip, if you see them the day before you can let them know if your leaving late. You can even call mousekeeping the day before you check out and let them know you have a late flight and will be sleeping in.
This of course has nothing to do with OP, given an unacceptable room I would demand they find me something somewhere! In all other matters I've found patience and kindness gets better results. I'm on vacation and see no need to stress over little things.

The morning phone call isn't that great if you were planning to sleep in on your last day. My fiance and I pack the night before we leave then like to sleep in until 10am before taking our bags down to bell services and then heading out to a park since we don't fly out until late. Although a call for you at 8am may not ruin your day it can definitely make my fiance a cranky butt the rest of the day because he will have trouble going back to sleep.

Why do you think all of us who have gotten the knock must not be nice? We say hi to anyone in the hall, are polite when dealing with all CMs and make an effort to call all of them by name and ask how they are doing but we have still gotten the knock so not sure why being a good person has to do with a push housekeeper on check out day.

Two problems here, not sure where I said every one is not nice. I've gotten the knock and am nice to Workers.
The other is if having the phone ring at 8 (usually it's 9 but thats irrelevant) makes someone a "cranky butt" all day they have issues to deep to solve on a web page.

The first point was the tone of your post. It came off as seeming like you were assuming those of us who have gotten multiple knocks or calls in one day weren't nice. Sorry if that was not the intention.
The second point I imagine there are a lot of people who if they had their alarm set for 10 am and were woken 2 hours early would not be happy about it. Not sure why there are deep issues revolving around that. So because you are up at 8 it isn't a problem? Not everyone gets up at 8 am and likes being woken up for no real reason. If a hotel's check out policy is 11 they shouldn't be doing anything to push guests out before that time. Thankfully we haven't had it happen in a few trips but we did go to management when we got a call and several knocks on the door even though we had said we would be leaving between 10:45 and 11 which was with in the check out time.

I am the OP of this thread.........After leaving Boardwalk, we went to BCV and AKL Jambo and we had no problems at either resort upon checkout. The Housekeeping Manager from Boardwalk sent us fruit under glass with cupcake lollipops. It was a nice gesture and it was appreciated, especially, by my wife.

This was an eye opening trip.........the reality is DVC does not run the properties. Disney hotel management or whatever the correct name of the group that runs it. The fact is the standards are just dropping throughout the entire park and resorts just as fast as the prices are going up. We will no longer eat at any restaurant managed by Disney. Well, we made that decision on a trip in April. We slipped up and ate at The Garden Grill for breakfast. I promise I am not embellishing this ..........it was worse than a breakfast you would eat at (insert your high school here). It was embarrassingly bad.........I did not have the heart or energy to say anything. I am not a gourmet when it comes to breakfast .....we love Waffle House. Everything they served was processed even the scrambled eggs. Yuk....

On our way home, we discussed our DVC Future..........we are in Atlanta so we will be start using our points at HHI or VB.......for the money we spent on traveling to and at the park (including AP's) ......we can go to Aulani.

When we bought our points in 98, we never expected to see Disney standards drop..........Bring back Eisner! (For Quality Control).......The Eisner regime at the resorts were first class......not under Igor.

really no issue with be miserable ALL DAY because you were awakened two hours early. IMO that would make for a miserable life. so kids, dogs, thunderstorms, wrong number hell a fly can wake a person up. should not make you a 'cranky butt all day'
guess we're getting way off topic so I'll end by wishing you well on your next trip.

Can the phone be unplugged?
you can or just turn the ringer off but if you don't pick up they may assume you have left. so leave a note on the door, this is not the big deal people are making it out to be, I have never met a rude house keeper and we go 4 or 5 times a year. you can even leave a message that you will be sleeping in and do not want to be disturbed.
They are just trying to get their work done so we can get in our rooms as early as possible and in many cases they have a second job to go to. most only get 32 hours a week and need a second income to survive

I'm talking about vacation not every day life. I don't get why you had to attack someone else though for saying it can affect their vacation. I just can't stand by and let someone say I must have a miserable life. You have a good trip next time as well. We had a great trip just last week with no issues from housekeeping or management on our side. Our friends unfortunately had a different experience at Kidanni so it has really has been luck of the draw.

I post the good and the bad and people don't want the bad, it goes against their love of Disney. Eventually they will have some of the bad happen to them and they will understand.

Being bothered on check out day by a housekeeper wanting to finish their work early so they can go home has been an issue for years. The only way to change that is to complain to management, if the complaint goes on record it counts against the housekeeper and that may change things.

Guess I should be more sensitive to what bithers people. Being woken early by housekeeping, does nit bother me, just glad I have a better job than they do. If my room is not perfect, just glad I can go in multiple vacations every year. Have a jazzy cut me off glad I don't need one. Strollers, rude guests, these things are minor, most of us on this board visit WDW every year if not more, sounds like we have it made. So guess my point is that "bad things" is all relevent. Cancer, strokes, war, natursl disasters are bad, early phone call, not so much!

I like your attitude. I once ordered a kosher meal at Cosmic Ray's. "Chicken tenders." A cast member came out, apologized profusely, said they are out of chicken tenders, but they have a (kosher) hamburger, and would that be OK.
I said to him that there are people who have to scrounge around in garbage dumps for something to eat, so why would I complain about a hamburger?
He was kind of shocked. I guess people give him grief all day long for minor stuff.

That is the point of the thread........we put the "Privacy Please" sign on the door and a Disney Housekeeper still knocked. Should a guest have to be an extra note on top of the Privacy Please sign???

Each Housekeeper chose to work there. They are not endentured servants.........What does having 32 hours a week or needing a second income have to do with anything??? Maybe, I am disabled and I was up all night with nerve pain. Maybe, I planned on sleeping in and having a relaxing morning before checking out of my room. Maybe, I paid for a room that I am am entitled to stay in until 11 am. Aren't we entitled to our entire stay?? Would it be alright for a waiter to take your desert plate away after your first bite of a decadent desert because the dishwasher has to go to their next job?

When we leave our room on our departure day, we always inform the Housekeeping staff that we are done because it is considerate and reasonable. If the Privacy Please sign is on the door there is no reason (other than life or death) a call or knock should happen.

From a business point of view..........it is really stupid.....Why would I want to return to resort that doesn't respect a guests privacy.

I cant even think of a response to this so I'll leave it that unlike you some people make mistakes.

Its not just a Disney thing. I've had it happen all over the place. This past week at SSR, we didn't have any problems. Years ago at Caribbean Beach, we had a terrible problems with housekeeper that kept trying to come in. We told her we would be leaving soon (within the hour) and it would be all hers. She drove us nuts for the next hour. I guess she didn't have any other rooms to clean. A few years ago in Chicago, we had a do not disturb sign up. We were only there for a few days and really didn't need housekeeping. We put up the sign so that they would know they didn't have to bother with our room. We feel like we are making their lives easier by doing so. But in this one case, it really bothered the housekeeper a lot. It was strange. As we were leaving the room one morning, the housekeeper stopped us and asked if we needed anything. I said we were fine. She kept trying to push past me to get into the room because she insisted (almost in a desperate way) that we needed something. I finally told her that if it made her feel better, our trash was a little bit full but other than that we were ok (I can make the bed, our towels were fine, we didn't need coffee or toiletries). She did that, then next thing I know here she comes with towel and everything. Haha...then she wanted to know if she provided us excellent customer service. Maybe she was afraid of getting in trouble for not cleaning our room. I don't know. It was intrusive and an bit annoying. So, it happens every where I guess.

ETA- I posted before I actually meant to. In both instances, although we were annoyed, that is really all it was, an annoyance. We were very polite and never did I call the front desk or anywhere to complain. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble, especially the lady in Chicago who seemed to be desperately trying to make us happy, even when it wasn't needed or necessary.

As posted, people (including housekeepers) just want to finish their work assignments and go home. If bugging a guest gets them into the room earlier, then they will bug.

yeah i mean how many times do people check out and leave the privacy tag on the door so of course they should check???? hey they could install cameras to check up on the rooms right? i think we would rather a door knock!!! i just dont understand why people lose their minds and expect to be compensated for every little thing that goes wrong on their disney vacation. its a door knock! do you know how many times kids running down the hall has woken someone in my party up? it happens its like and its not like disney hired kids to run down the hall to ruin my sleep.....i know there are times when things go real wrong and you defiantly should be compensated but this goes in the column of being a bit much in my option.....

We didn't ask for any type of compensation.........The Housekeeping manager sent the fruit and desert on her own.......This has happened several times at WDW hotels ...Funny, I have never had this issue at any other hotels from the JW Marriott all the way down to a Fairfield inn.

It amazes me how people thinks it is OK or tries to justify Housekeeping to knock on a door with a privacy tag on it. Per the Housekeeping manager, it is a policy that the housekeepers are not allowed to touch a door with a tag on it. Why have a Privacy Tag??
