Welcome Home email changed

Why does everybody seem to forget that Membership Extras or Perks are clearly defined as that in the contract and never guaranteed? We all hope the Discounted AP's come back but if the Ticket Division says No then DVD has no say in the matter. It's a negotiated perk. The Sales Reps use the perks to entice one to purchase but I've always been clearly told by mine that they are always subject to change per the contract. Our contract is simply a purchase of a percentage of a building unit and nothing more. They don't really owe anything more to any of us. Unfortunately they can take away any perk they choose or replace it with something better or worse. Given how DVC has grown over the years and the resale market they are within their rights to put limitations on any of us whether Direct Purchase or Resale. They are currently choosing to only limit resale members from certain perks. Considering there used to be a lottery restricting certain days of the year to only be available to those who owned at that specific property some things have changed for the better.
This is true. But when you speak with a guide they push the AP’s as a perk if you buy direct still. So you can drop $100K on RIV direct and No AP For You!!!!!!! As of right now there is no good reason not to sell the AP. The only reason there is, is that WDW makes more money when you have to buy a pass every day you go. That is it, Florida has been wide open for a while now. Parks are selling out, for almost the next 30 days MK is sold out. For most of June 2 to 3 parks per day are sold out. No one knows what % capacity they are at now. It is probably 40%. 40% capacity puts most parks near or over their 2019 daily average. The only one that would not be over is the MK.

Agreed. I don't know that it would make me want to go any further into that "neighborhood".

I agree. The buy in even at resale is expensive but more importantly to Disney it’s dues overtime (to help pay for the costs of the bldg, staff and maintenance) and annual passes/tickets, food, gifts, etc. and that all adds up to benefit Disney. Plus you may decide to purchase directly. Resale also helps create a product that doesn’t lose value. Honestly, this letter bothers me and the more I think about it I think they need to reword this letter. It’s intent is to be both informative and to encourage you/sell you on becoming a direct member so they get both the sale and the other benefits (dues, tickets, food, loyalty, bringing guests and family) but somehow it does come off as snobbish and “hey second class member...”. At least to me it does.

When you say "everybody" you mean like DVD themselves? THEY are the ones who brought it up with their language in the letter. No one on this thread replied to anything that wasn't in a recent written communication to a resale owner.

I, and I'm quite certain that most owners, understand that perks are not guaranteed. After all, it is the dead horse that is beaten every time anyone vents their frustration or disappointment about a perk. I've been an owner for less than a year and am tired of the air of superiority from that " you are only getting the chance to stay at a resorts, nothing else" argument when the company is the one stating that perks are available and their own staff push it as a selling point. Thank goodness the CMs don't come across with that tone. Why the need to point it out? Does Disney take that approach? NO, they promote the extra magic that comes with ownership. Sure they can be taken away, modified, revised, but they company prides itself on being customer oriented so they do these things. No one should expect anything extra, however it's nice to know they care enough to offer these things without the condescension.

Maybe some do, but we just left and talked to a few different ones to see what info we would get and all of them were clear that the passes were currently suspended due to COVID. Now, they certainly spun things to make you believe that they were coming back because they have received no info to the contrary and what a great savings it is.

But, out of the 6 different DVC people we talked to at BLT, RIV, and Disney Springs, they did not try to pretend we could get them.

I’ve received that same email now on several contracts. Personally, I think it’s particularly bad form. Right off the bat the resale buyer is made to feel like a second class citizen, and reminded in no uncertain terms of all the benefits they’re not entitled to. I have the blue card and it still annoyed me.

Lol, sorry Disney, but no amount of marketing, cajoling, or tear jerking will convince me that buying direct is worth the added expense :coffee:

I'll buy direct when it's my only option!
