Welcome Home email changed

if I may ask, I’m curious does the welcome Email include the standard ā€œ this is to solicit timeshare sharesā€ languag?

I went back to look at my email from my resale back in May and it already had the new message that OP shared and no, it doesn’t have the ā€œthis is to solicit sale of timeshare interestā€ as part of email.

Am I the only one ecstatic they included AP in the membership extra list? šŸ˜„ I really hope it’s here to stay as a perk.

Isnt that the exact language from the contract? I’m not sure I’d get too excited yet.

I think that this new message was partially initiated by the call center. They want to avoid all the calls saying they did not get their membership card. They may also avoid some calls asking for perks that the person is not entitled to.

I wonder if they are diligent enough to avoid this message if the purchase already has a blue card?

It’s easy automation, but who knows.

Bear in mind that I do have around 155 direct points already. Im also to add on another 200 RIV points direct.
That shows how stupid Disney has become. Why would they send an auto email to someone when the content doesn’t fully apply. They are becoming garbage. That email should have remained vague and pleasant or should be much more individualized, listing all of your contracts and what you can and can’t access with them.

Whenever companies start talking about ā€œthree pillarsā€ of anything, you know they are using overpriced, useless consulting companies like Mckinsey and are no longer thinking for themselves. This is when companies have really lost their way and no longer make their own decisions. It is also how organic culture gets destroyed. So sad for the Walt Disney Company.

Wow, leaves a bad taste in your mouth doesn’t it? It’s ā€œat your fingertipsā€ to be a real member. Just call! Oh, and spend five figures. It’s easy!
We obviously read that completely differently. "Membership Magic" is "at your fingertips," and that applies to everyone. "Membership Extras" is only available to direct purchasers. I don't see a call-to-action or a sales pitch in there at all.

We just renewed and upgraded our AP (yay), but I do believe DVC has an obligation to discontinue the promotion of discounted APs as a perk until they are available again to all blue card members.

Welcome Home - (a bit off topic but) No Magical Express, no fireworks, no EPCOT monorail, no parades, no Top of the World, no Party for the Senses, no fastpasses, limited shows etc. etc. .................................when home is not home anymore.

"we wanted to take a moment to highlight other opportunities at your fingertips." I mean, that's the first line. Then they tell you all the stuff that you don't qualify for in gross corporate speak, but don't worry you got whatever the pillars are, fam.

I'm actually cool with this email if it was a more balanced explanation for all the things you do qualify for and how points work, and the booking windows and such, and then they throw this in at the end. But the first line is that you have an awesome opportunity at your fingertips to do it right and the next two paragraphs are all the things you can't do. I don't see another way to read it.

But yea, this reads like it was written by an MBA who just read the suite of Disney business books, and that's not a compliment.

We are here and had a chat with two DVC people at Disney Springs last night. They we’re pretty straightforward when I asked about it.

They said that is currently part of Membership Extras but due to Covid, they ticketing division has suspended sales. My cousin in thinking of buying so it’s why we wanted to see what they would say.

So, our experience was they stated What was happening and that she wouldn’t be able to upgrade her current ticket because of it, but they have received nothing to suggest it won’t be back.

You don't see the sales pitch?

It needs to have the timeshare solicitation notice.

Yes, it's a marketing opportunity they've been missing and again shows they are just a timeshare.

Why does everybody seem to forget that Membership Extras or Perks are clearly defined as that in the contract and never guaranteed? We all hope the Discounted AP's come back but if the Ticket Division says No then DVD has no say in the matter. It's a negotiated perk. The Sales Reps use the perks to entice one to purchase but I've always been clearly told by mine that they are always subject to change per the contract. Our contract is simply a purchase of a percentage of a building unit and nothing more. They don't really owe anything more to any of us. Unfortunately they can take away any perk they choose or replace it with something better or worse. Given how DVC has grown over the years and the resale market they are within their rights to put limitations on any of us whether Direct Purchase or Resale. They are currently choosing to only limit resale members from certain perks. Considering there used to be a lottery restricting certain days of the year to only be available to those who owned at that specific property some things have changed for the better.

There are like five tiers of DVC now, so there’s a version of that email that explains what you do and don’t get. Heck, there’s a version that explains some complicated concepts like banking and borrowing. There’s a version that links to some FAQs or helpful videos or just has happy pictures and jokes.

Im not sure what this email is trying to accomplish. It’s a pretty gross way to greet someone who just bought.

Agreed. I don't know that it would make me want to go any further into that "neighborhood".

The only point I disagree with and will bring up in any discussion on this topic is the contract for a new purchase today still lists annual passes as perk and even details how to buy new ones. This language has persisted for over a year without new passes being offered and through several rounds of updates without change. I understand the ā€œsubject to change languageā€ means we’re not guaranteed perks but the current offers need to be accurately reflected in timely matter when perk is suspended. At this point them continuing to list the perk and promote knowing it’s not available is fraud in my opinion.
