The next morning, I slept in. I stayed in bed until almost 6 am!
Then I went out on the balcony with my book and camera and coffee and watched the sun come up.
Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day!
We ate breakfast at Las Brisas breakfast buffet ($24 per person). Fortunately, breakfast was included in our package, so the cost was covered except for the tip.
We met up with our tour group in the front entrance way of El Con. Here are a few pictures from there. You can see the tops of the peaks in the distance today. A lot of the time, they are covered in clouds.
The ride in the van was probably 40-45 minutes. When we neared the rainforest our tour guide who told us to call him “Tour Guide” because we would never remember his name (Edwin) gave us some background facts. He had an interesting and really amusing way of presenting information. Much like Jeopardy, his phrasing was in the form of a question.
“Tour Guide, what is the most popular fruit in the world?” (I’ll reveal in the next installment, feel free to make a guess)
“Tour Guide, where does the water in the rainforest come from?”
“Tour Guide, is it going to rain in the rainforest today”
He asked this as we were approaching a meadow and a river. He said:
“Tour Guide doesn’t know if it is going to rain. But to make a guess, I watch the cows”
He pointed to the field, where there were a couple of cows.
One of the others on the bus asked “What do you predict?”
Tour Guide said “I don’t know, the sample size was too small -insufficient data”
How many cows does it take to make a prediction?
Tour Guide said “It isn’t actually about the number, but the behavior of the cows” . You need to see how many are standing up or if they are down, if they are close to the river, etc.
Our first stop was at a waterfall.
Next stop- this is where I really missed the zoom that my recently deceased Canon had:
See the house in this picture. I guess the house has been here since before the area was declared a National Landmark and the owner refuses to sell
Next up: Tour Guide, Where does the Water in the Rainforest Come From?
