Welcome Dame Doris to the DIS TEAM!! =0)

We need more DISers to post their thoughts on Dame Doris. If anyone is in contact by other means with other DISers who may not have seen this yet please contact them and ask them to look at the newsletter and post their honest opinion here. We arer 70 strong so far on this thread, but there are over 68,000 members of the DIS. I doubt it but maybe we are in the minority on this issue. WE NEED MORE INPUT.

I also found it to be tacky and quite meanspirited and I'm very surprised it was allowed to "fly" here. I know I wont be participating in it.

Add me to the list of people who don't like the Dame Doris page. Doris, you may be a lovely person, but this page just comes off wrong.

One more voice saying make it go away.

it seems that not only are they deleting posts but also changing them in some ways to make it appear none are missing for example... philaround's posts states it should be post 94 which is correct but there were several before his deleted so shouldn't the number be different now?

This appears to have been my error. After I submitted the post the count on it was 95 not 94, so 1 post was deleted after I entered my post.

I think it is a mean concept, and should go. Just consider what a personal affront it would be, if someone we knew was pictured there. My stepmom has a unique sense of style, for sure. But she just dropped over 150 lbs. Is she as small as she thinks she is? No. But she doesn't know that, and there is no reason to point it out to her.

Also, what makes anyone a fashion expert over others at an amusement park?? I looked terribly dressed every day. Post-baby, my clothes just don't fit right and I chose to save for WDW instead of investing in new clothes that I would only wear till the weight comes off. I would be humiliated to see myself (even faceless) as the butt of fashion faux-pas jokes.

This whole Dame Doris thingy has the very real potential to truly hurt someone's feelings and self-image. It is not a necessary addition to this site, therefore excising it should be quick and virtually painless. I'll try to start a poll.

Dame Doris is making fun of people. It's as simple as that no matter what "spin" was used in the debut article. Not showing the faces doesn't justify the use of the photos either. The intent to poke fun is there whether the subjects are annonymous or not. How sad.

I second that!! I think it is a bad reflection on this board. Webmaster Pete needs to get involved with this one and put some respect back to these boards again!

I go to WDW to escape that kind of scrutiny! I don't want to feel I have to dress to please some unknown person or else I might end up on the internet . Please get rid of this - WDW is my escape from reality!

I think it's horrible too. I will never understand why grown adults feel the need to act like this. Making fun of someone is never right, no matter what....and that came straight from my 6 yr olds mouth.

here is a link to the poll...its the best thing I could think of, to voice disapproval (or approval, as the case may be).

Dame Doris Poll

I agree that Dame Doris should be removed. The DIS is a place to help fellow Disney fans to find information to benefit an upcoming trip. Rude, mean comments, especially those that criticize an entire socio-economic background are not permitted in posts and should not be glorified by and through Dame Doris.

Please remove this offensive material.

Not cool. :sad2:

On the other hand Monkeyboy is hilarious! :rotfl: Thanks for that laugh.

I've read all of this thread and just wanted to say that even the best and brightest have made a mistake or two along the way. Let's not forget what a great resource this board is. A few of you seem like you're calling for WebmasterPete's head. I'm sure you simply want some sort of response, and I would think something will stem from all of this. In the meantime, let's remember that the DISboards is a great tool.

Personally, I'd rather have another post by monkeyboy than a response from DIS. Those are hilarious! :rotfl:

Add me to the list...I think this is crude, rude, tasteless, childish, hurtful, but most of all un-DIS-ney like. Yeah that's it, let's teach our kids and others to be bullies at the most magical place on earth...hmmmmm sounds like fun to me.....NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto much of what has already been said.

Here's a thought...

Why not turn this around and have Dame Doris focus instead on the positive? Give us tips, photos and commentary on appropriate (as in comfortable & tasteful) outfits to wear to WDW. Try providing useful information on park fashions, such as where to find comfortable walking shoes and sandals that look good too... or nice, neat clothing options like capris and skorts that will allow one to keep cool & comfy while still looking nice and thoughtfully put together.

I think you will find that people are more receptive to receiving tips on how to dress well, and seeing photos of really nice fashion choices. Dame Doris could even take it one step further, and search out online clothing sales items which are similar to a chosen 'Perfect Park Outfit' each week. Inform us, and help us to find those great apparel options to wear on our next visit to WDW. Rather than being so critical of people's fashion faux pas, why not make Dame Doris's column a fun and informative place that can help us to prepare for our Disney vacation. :flower:

GOOD IDEA!! Showing pics of what to wear would be helpful. Even tabloids show the "Best and Worst". If the worst is showed the best needs to be shown too or it does come off as being mean.

If this is a vote, I vote against it. I did have a few people email and ask if it's me..and I didn't even know what they were talking about. I'm ebarrassed to have my name associated with this. Poor idea IMO. If someone I knew was shown (and I can tell my friends and family even without their face showing), they would just be mortified. I feel bad enough about what I look like sometimes in my "comfy" clothes, I sure would hate to see them posted just so everyone could agree I was a slob at Disney.

I have to agree with the above poster.

At work - one of the girls had a baby just before she was hired - and some people used to complain and gossip that her clothes were too tight. She is very sweet person - ignored them - and lost the "baby weight". Now the same people that gossiped- "forget" they every said anything.

I feel the DIS board is moving away from the "spirit" of this board esp. with this Dame Doris feature, the excessive deleting of posts all over the board.

I come here to help other Disney fans and to plan trips & cruises.

Okay, let's all take a deep breath...

You don't need to start any other threads, or polls, or email campaigns to voice your displeasure. I think anyone who wants to gauge the success of Dame Doris need only take a look at this thread.

I don't know the background or who the author is, but Dame Doris was CLEARLY intended to be funny and tongue-in-cheek, not hateful and mean.

But all the outrage and mob mentality (I can hear "kill the beast!!!" in my head!) seems a little out of proportion to the problem.

Someone published a humorous piece with only good intentions, and the posters have spoken and said that they don't find it funny.

I'm sure the message has been received, and now we can all move on to planning that next magical trip to The World!

It's awful that you have to come on this thread to defend yourself :(.

I was going to vote in the poll, but voting to get rid of Dame Doris isn't the same, to me, as voting to get rid of her column. I think I'm just saying that I'm as uncomfortable with the wording of the poll, as I am with the column that has caused all this furor. For the record, I am against the column, but I would prefer to see Doris rehabbed rather than scrapped. Given a different mandate, she may turn out to be a valued member of the community.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia (who almost always dresses all in black, and has worn one of the outfits on the list).
