Why would one expect OBC? We did it for the fun of it and were thrilled to get the gift pack.

I assumed they were kidding...?

Actually I was not kidding. Thanks for assuming that. :thumbsup2

OBC is awarded at DVC presentations, trivia and a host of other events. Why would I be not surprised that it was not part of the costume contest prize?

OP, did I suggest you did it this other than in the spirit fun, that you should not be happy with what you were awarded or should expect something else ? I was simply stating I was surprised the winning costume did not receive OBC.

Ah. I just figured that would be too big a prize. I expected it to be a token.

Probably not... Cozumel night is Pirate night on the Western. I'm on the 10/12 western and anxiously awaiting news from the current western cruisers when they return on Saturday.

Me, too! Awaiting the western cruisers to post and give us some details!

We just got back from the Wonder, not the Fantasy, but sounds similar.

We were a bit disappointed in the Halloween festivities. I mean, it was something extra, so no real complaints. It just seemed a little lackluster, sort of like an executive made a decision and didn't give his staff time or money to do it right.

There was a deck party, which was characters in costumes dancing and music. They did a costume "parade," but it was not really anything to write home about. Basically anyone who wanted to went up one staircase on Deck 9, up to Deck 10, walked across to the other side and back down to Deck 9. My family jumped out of the slowly sauntering line half way. It just seemed rather pointless.

There was a "Halloween Bash" in Studio Sea...again, a dance party. We left after about 20 minutes so I'm not sure what happened at the end. No characters while we were there.

The adult costume contest was at 10:30. Staff members had cards to hand out for "finalists" in each category. We arrived at 10:25 and all the cards had been given out, so anyone arriving on time wasn't called to the stage for a category. This resulted in some very good unique costumes being excluded and some very mediocre, store bought costumes coming forward. The club host did have all the others come forward for his choice, so that was nice. It also seemed like the staff didn't have a good grasp of their categories...Cleopatra in spookiest, Fiona in Most Disney, etc. I assume with some more experience they'll get that down better.

The awards for the costume contest were the same old Mickey medals. I've seen other cruise lines give out t-shirts, keychains, bottles of champagne, etc. They had Halloween merchandise for sale on the ship and that would have made great prizes, even if it was just for one grand prize award and not for each category.

The dining rooms had some amazing carved pumpkins and some other fun decorations. We were given a chocolate mousse spider at dinner that the kids loved, and it tasted great.

There were also some more minor Halloween things in the Navigator...family crafts and themed bingo.

We had a lot of fun dressing up, and we are happy for the opportunity. It just wasn't what we were expecting. Maybe we misunderstood, but everyone we talked to on board was under the impression that the kids would get to trick or treat. Instead we got a bag with a handful of candy in our room. The festivities were just not appropriate for our young children, who bore easily with the dance party concept (especially when pirate night the day before).

Again, I'm happy we had the opportunity, but we wouldn't bother with costumes the next time. With a family of 5 and young kids, it was a lot of work and more luggage. If we had to do it again, we'd make animal masks at the family crafts time earlier in the week and wear those. :)

A poster on our Facebook page got the news from someone just off the Fantasy western Caribbean. The Halloween party was on the 3rd / Monday / Grand Cayman night. Pirate night is the 5th / Wednesday / Cozumel night.

Yep! Just got back. Not extremely impressed with the Halloween festivities but it was still fun. Kids loved the Halloween party in the lobby.

Welcome back... What time was the Halloween party?

Thanks,

Martin

Just off the Fantasy Western. Halloween was Monday night, Grand Cayman day. There was a Family party at 4:30 that we missed. We made it out for photos before dinner and went to dinner all dressed up. We did the Costume Contest at 10pm, in the Atrium. It looked like the prizes were stuffed Halloween Mickeys and something else.

You do realize there are prizes awarded for multiple categories? The DVC presentations only have one winner and the prize is an inducement to get people to attend, since it is a sales presentation after all.

Great picture!! Were there other Halloween backgrounds? And what other characters were dressed in costumes? Thanks for sharing!!

Would love to know if there were any other Halloween backgrounds set up before or after dinner. And also what characters were available in their Halloween costumes for meet and greets. Thanks for the info!!

DW and I were on the cruise and arrived home this afternoon. The adult costume contest was in the atrium on deck 3 and was absolutely crazy. First it was amazing how many people had costumes on and my DW and I observed from the 4th floor and enjoyed seeing some of the creativity of some of the cruisers. There were many of the kids that wore costumes most of the day and the rumor was that the kids were to receive candy in the staterooms but I don't know if it was true. Overall--it was real crazy but enjoyable from afar.

The kids got candy in the room? So no Trick or Treating?
Because that's the only reason I would cruise that time of year... I hated giving up trick or treating. :lmao:

On the Fantasy there was no Trick or Treating. My daughter was completely happy though with the candy on the bed and the family party in the D Lounge. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Chip N Dale were all there in Halloween costumes as we're the crew members.

Thanks so much for the info!!!

Thanks - I think I would prefer no trick or treating. I am sure the kids will be hyped up on enough sugar anyway! LOL!!! My DD is just excited to dress up!

We were on the Dream sailing 10/3 and the kids were supposed to get bags of candy in the room but mine didn't. We had to go to guest services to get the bags. Then they played a handful of hastily put together games and got a piece of candy at each. There was also trick or treating on decks 4 and 5 around the railing but it was insanely chaotic, no order whatsoever. A frustrating experience. To top it off there were characters changing positions every 10 min or so which made traffic even worse.
