Weird Tasting Water

I personally think it smells slightly of chlorine, as does the ice (but obviously as it's made from water...) We just take advantage of our refillable mugs and use the water just to clean our teeth (and even then it tastes icky)!

We're from the UK though so I would imagine we have completely different water treatment systems... especially seeing as our water sometimes comes out of the tap with tiny rocks in it :lmao:

yes, the chlorine in all tap water is what makes it taste bad. Not to mention that chlorine is not good for your body. The purewater2go bottles will fix that, though.

My understanding is the water is recycled bathroom water and if that is a rumor and not true I will be surprised as the water at WDW smells like a dirty toilet and I suspect even my dogs wouldn't be willing to lick water from their fountains!
That said, we did have luck freezing the water in our hotel room and using it in the park the next day. However, generally speaking I bought the bottled water with my DDP each day for the parks. I could not stand the water out of the fountains...YUK!!!

I was city raised and I can say that isn't any flouride or chlorine I ever tasted!
Now here in the country sometimes in the summer they add something to the water tower water...little funky, but tolerable.
I would not risk my vacation to that water there..good luck!

Florida does use recyled water but not for drinking water or any water that comes inside a home or business. Recycled water (waste water) is only used for irrigation purposes.

Last year's trip the smell was so bad I about vomited every time I turned on a faucet or took a shower for that matter. It was pretty bad. Thank god for bottled water then. This year's trip as I was brushing my teeth I thought to go get a bottle of water to rinse but remembered we didn't buy any yet so I had to use the tap and it did not taste bad so I drank some and again it was fine. Actually the only time I smelled it on this trip was in the shower and at the Poly coming from the waterfall in the center of the building...So maybe Disney has beefed up the filtration around there or maybe the water is growing on me ...LOL

It is my understanding that most of the rooms in the Poly have recently undergone rennovation. If that is true, they had water filtration systems installed in the rooms. The Florida building code requires water filtration systems to be installed in all new construction or major rennovation.

I heard the water tastes weird at Disney World. I was hoping we could refill our water bottles from the fountains but if the water tastes weird, now what?

Why does it taste weird? What is weird about it?

Is it safe to drink? Or is it like the water in mexico (best to avoid)?

Do the Brita filter things work to get rid of the taste?

Thanks

The water is perfectly safe to drink but has a decided skunky flavor and smell.

My DH finds it acceptable after being filtered through a Brita bottle, it's still to skunky for me. Keep in mind that most of the fountains are not chilled. You can get a cup of ice water at any counter service restaurant, but this is generally not filtered either.

My 2 cents. Water at WDW used to have a "Florida" taste and smell, but last Fall I thought the water tasted just like that at home (Washington DC area). Which makes me wonder if WDW/Orlando is now drawing water from lakes and rivers instead of from wells.

you can just throw your ice in the purewater2go filter bottle and it will keep it cool. as it melts, it will be filtered also. very handy.

Yep, the water definitely tastes stange, although to describe it is really hard. Even the fountain sodas taste strange, and to me the sodas bottled down there just the same, strange! We have been driving, so we bring our own drinks, bottled where we are used to !! :drinking1

Me or my sister can't drink the tap water. We end up sick to our stomachs and are stuck in the hotel room for a day. The smell doesn't bother me I just can't drink it.

The water wasn't that bad in AK, MGM, and Epcot, but the water in MK is downright nasty, even the soda had that taste to it.

After reading comments on the board, we stopped at a store on our way in and picked up bottled water. The water did smell terrible, and I never tasted it. The smell was so unpleasant, I actually could not brush my teeth with it, but used the bottled water. Showers were done very quickly!
At SOG, there is a waterfall that falls from lobby level to the lower level. It was pretty to look at, but the smell was something else. My DH didn't notice the smell that much, but he stuck with bottled water as well. We do that here at home as well...maybe we're just oversensitive to water that isn't like the clean, clear well water I was raised on.

Oh I am glad my family is not the only one who thinks this. I can't even drink a pop with Florida ice in it because it makes the pop taste awful. I am used to my Muddy Mo water I guess.
