I just received an email, apparently from ebay. I told me that my account was inactive and if I did not update my information within 24 hours, my account would be deleted and all feedback would be lost. They are asking me to click this link to update my info. I am totally confused because within the last 2 weeks, I have purchased things through ebay as well as having an auction going right now!

I have tried to reply to this email asking them what is going on. It 'bounced' back, telling me that it had tried to be delivered 'multiple times'....something about there being a mail loop? I am totally stumped as to what to do! Has anyone else gotten anything like this recently? I don't know whether to ingore this or try again to contact ebay.

don't answer it! This is a scam, by professionals, to get your information. They ask for your password, your checking information, etc. I had one of these a couple of months ago that looked so authentic I couldn't believe it wasn't from E-bay. Fortunately, I reported it and they advised me quickly that it was a scam.

Be very careful. I have read recently that there is a scam within that sort of link. If you "update", the creeps have your credit information. I have not received that letter, and I haven't been to ebay in months. Too addictive!

Sure looks legit....I wrote to ebay directly to let them know this was going on.

A "certain amount of days"? That sounds strange to me. A certain number of days, perhaps.

I would email ebay directly and forward a copy of the email. This doesn't sound right.

I recently recieved a letter that was also suppose to be from ebay telling me that my credit card had been rejected and that I needed to update my info .......but i knew it wasn't 1 I use my debit card and 2 they had just deducted it from my account a few days prior... just don't give anyone any info.

Hope

That's why I only pay for items with money orders, when I buy anything from ebay. Most sellers will accept them, and as for the occasional seller who won't, I just e-mail them and tell them I was prepared to bid on their item but then couldn't because they don't accept money orders. I can understand people not wanting to accept personal checks, but a money order should be fine so it bugs me when they only want people to charge their payments to credit cards. I don't WANT to use my credit card, could get into LOTS of trouble that way!!

That sounds like an old AOL scam. One night we let our friends DD use our computer (she was about 14)--she was chatting and soon we had several EMails saying "This is AOL and we have lost your information, please send your password or you will lose your acct. in 24 hours," etc. It's a scam to get your info. I forwarded it all to AOL and I don't think I've been in a chat room since.
Look at it this way--even if it is legit, so what--all you have to do is create a new account. But if it's not--you could really be out of luck!

I just got one of those from PayPal. Upon inspecting he links, I found that it would have emailed all of the information to an address at mail.ru. Definitely NOT legit.

PM me if you wish, I can help you sort out if there is ANY chance of this being legit.

I deal with ebay and their emails all the time and it really DOES NOT sound like them!

I got one of those recently.

I haven't bid on/won anything from eBay in years. I've been a member since 97, but I take very long breaks. Anyway, after I bid on something recently, then I got that email. I deleted it completely. It just didn't look right. eBay hasn't erased my account, either.

I saw this on channel 6 or 10 news the other night. It's a big, giant scam if it's the same form that they were showing on the news. It asks for your SS number along with your credit card numbers and your password. Then, they take that information, sign on to Ebay as you and have a ball with your identity. Not to mention using the information for other things. I don't use ebay so I'm not sure, but I wouldn't fill it out. What's the worse that could happen if you don't and it's legit? You would have to open a new account. :)

I have a new credit card... I can get the info on where I got it if anyone is interested.. what it allows you to do is to create a NEW credit card number that is only good for one transaction. After you use it for what you want to buy it is completely useless to anyone.

add the full headers to the mail you got..and forward the whole thing to spoof@ebay.com..there are a LOT of those going around right now..don't click on the link..and DO NOT enter any of your private information!!!

I got one of those a couple of months ago. I had a funny feeling about it and after looking at it a bit closer, I noticed a couple of misspelled words. Not very professional, so I figured it wasn't from ebay. Some of the info they wanted also seemed to be a bit much too.
