Weird Experience Ordering Fire Whiskey

I think taking away paid for drinks if the guest is who modifies them is extreme. I understand not offering modifications but once it is handed over it shouldn't matter if any added ingredients are allowed in the parks.

For the shots I can understand. At most bars I've been to shots can't leave the bar area. I think it is due to spills. If there are tables you can serve them there but not usually standing around.

I've never had one. Was the shot in a glass shot glass or a plastic shot cup?

Nope. Plastic. In March, it was a tiny plastic shot cup. This time it looked like they put it in a regular size plastic cup.

In June, I went to 3Broomsticks with the kids to get desserts and ciders for them while my husband went to Hog's Head and ordered a beer for him and a Hogs Tea for me. The TM at 3Broomsticks messed up with the dining plan credits and it took longer then expected. I looked up and my DH and a server were walking towards us. We were told that there is a policy that they had to actually see me take the second drink. Since I was having issues, they walked over and brought me my drink. She was very nice about it. Maybe that was the issue? They had to see who would have the second drink, if you ordered a beer and shot? Perhaps to prevent underage drinking?

Only ordered 1 alcoholic drink and then the butterbeer. My husband was standing with me the whole time too and didn't order anything.

You are not allowed to add anything to butterbeer. If they see a guest do it, they take the drinks away and get you new ones not mixed. Though I haven't heard of people being told they had to drink it there yet, I have heard of several who had their drink taken away due to the keeping butterbeer pure thing. Watching makes sense cutting out that step though. Butterbeer is not supposed to be altered in anyway. The rumor is this is one of J.K. Rowling's rules.

That's excessive.

As someone previously asked, was it by any chance a glass shot? If so, that would be the reasoning for not allowing a person to walk away with a shot. As they have all the beers, whether alcoholic, or not, in plastic cups in order to allow guests to walk around the park.

If not, I would have to say this could be a change in procedure if they discovered this might frequently happen, or the person who previously allowed you to walk away with the shot might have been lenient and let you slide. For one example, you're supposed to check IDs at all times, especially if you look a certain age and considering I'm 25 and look even younger, I've frequently have bought drinks without anyone carting me (I mean this as a general example, not specifically Universal). More specific example, you're supposed to have "one ID per drink" at Hogs Head and a woman behind the counter gave my father a drink and he didn't have his ID on him. Of course, my father is over 50, but still just another example.

Nope. Plastic cup.

I believe you, just don't get the thrill of putting shots of fire whiskey in butterbeer

You weren't the first post not liking the new book

It's not really a thrill. I just personally think it tastes good. It was especially good in the hot butterbeer. It kind of made a butterbeer hot toddy.

I guess the thing that gets me about the "purity of butterbeer" mumbo jumbo is that there isn't any frozen, hot, soft-serve, or potted cream butterbeer in the books or movies. They are capitalizing on a good thing. Fine, don't sell butterbeer with the whiskey in it. However, sell the darn whiskey and let people drink it as they see fit, just like they do with all of the other alcohol they sell in the park:mad: Next time I'll buy a cider with the whiskey in it already and a butterbeer and mix the two within their sight:drinking1

By they way, does anyone else think butterbeer hard candy would be delicious:)

Not to mention butterbeer in the stories is somewhat alcoholic, and is ONLY warm. They sold something not from the books for, what, four years before they finally made something close to what's in the books? USH still doesn't have hot bb as far as we could tell.

That's insane, and I'm Canadian, so I know a thing or two about overbearing rules regarding alcohol :drinking1:duck:.

As a rule, Universal should hand over the drinks, and state something close to the following: "we ask that you please do not mix or alter the drinks that were purchased here at the 3 broomsticks."

Then, it should be up to you, the forces of the universe, and God, that dictate what happens next.

Actually I don't think it was warm in the books, it just gave you a warm feeling. Even in the movie it looks somewhat cold, as it was served in mugs very similar to beer mugs.

"Butterbeer is the drink of choice for younger wizards. Harry is first presented with the beverage in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Although house-elves can become intoxicated on Butterbeer, the amount of alcohol contained in Butterbeer has a negligible effect on Witches and Wizards. J.K. Rowling said in her interview to Bon Appétitmagazine that she imagines it "to taste a little bit like less-sickly butterscotch". Butterbeer can be served cold or hot, but either way it has a warming effect."

It was "warm" in the sense that it made you feel comforted more than anything, like a cozy type of feeling we eat certain foods that have certain ingredients, or aroma to them. At least that is how I read into it when I read descriptions in the book, like RAPstar said.

I think it was served "warm" compared to American beer. It was probably served at the same temperature as UK beer, which is about UK room temperature. I am not talking about Orlando room temperature. It would feel colder than room temperature in most of the states but warmer than refrigerated beer. At least this is how all of the beer we have had in the UK seems.
