Weird Ebay question

I have an item up for sale. I got my opening bid ($4.99) yesterday. Today it now says I have 2 bids yet it is still at $4.99 and it's the same bidder. One bid today, one yesterday.
Makes no sense. Even if he did a max bid amount and someone else bid, why is it still at $4.99?

Because that's the minimum. He upped his maximum, thinking he'd pay more for it after all...........but no one else has bid against him yet.
