For about a week now I have had pain in my lower back on the left side. It isn't muscular, it doesn't hurt more with movement. It feels like a bruise but it is a larger area, probably the size of a softball and I don't remember getting hit or hitting anything. There is no discoloration so no visible bruise but it is tender like a bruise. Anyone ever had anything like this?

Yes, I am asking for medical advice on the internet because I don't believe that you need to run to the doctor for every little thing AND real life experience counts for a lot in my book when it comes to medical issues. I am also an intelligent adult that can read information on the internet and make my own opinions.

Sounds like when I cracked a rib a few months ago from a bad cough I had...only mine was upper back. How far low is it? If it's really low, I doubt it could be your ribs....

It is just above my hip, so probably not ribs.

I wonder if it could be a kidney problem. Maybe a mild infection?

It's worth going to the Dr. if it's been a problem for over a week. Even muscle pain should have subsided by then. If it is something internal (like a kidney problem), then you'll need to see the Dr. anyway.

Make the appointment and give yourself some peace of mind.

I slipped on my stairs this winter and the stair tread banged my back when I fell. I never got a bruise mark on my skin, but the area was pretty sore for a couple of weeks. It went away on its own.

Did you recently take a spill? Are you drinking enough fluids? Do you have a fever?

Sounds like a kidney to me too. I'd see the doctor. You have to have an antibiotic if it's infected. And the longer you put it off, the more it will hurt! I know I've been there. Of course when it starts it's just a nagging back ache, next thing you know you are doubled over in pain going to the ER because it's the weekend!

I thought of kidney problems, I don't have any other "infection" symptoms but that doesn't always mean anything. I don't remember falling or hitting anything which is why this is so puzzling--maybe DH is kidney punching me in our sleep and I don't know it :lmao: .

I suppose I should make an appointment for the dr if this doesn't go away in a day or so.

I'm thinking Kidney too. Try taking your temp to see. You may have a slight fever which would indicate an infection.

Good luck!

My husband had a pain in his lower back on his side also. it turned out to be kidney stones.....

It could be an Ovarian Cyst. I had one burst last week, OUCH!!! My lower back had been hurting for a couple of weeks and I couldn't figure out why.

Hopefully it isn't that-I had one burst when I was in college, OUCH! I don't remember having back pain before that one though so hopefully not. Of course now that everyone mentioned kidneys I am imagining all kids of stuff :rotfl2: .

My biggest hesitation is we moved her last summer and I haven't found a new doctor yet and it is such a PAIN to do that. I do need my annual check-up soon so I can kill two birds with one stone I guess.

Ahem ... I hate to have to be the one to suggest this ...

let's just say "been there, done that" :lmao:

But could you be constipated? Even a little bit? Have your um... bathroom patterns changed recently ... are you going more/less, smaller/bigger amount?

Embarassingly ... I discovered the hard way that very harmless um ... colon inflammation ... can manifest as serious scary seeming pain in the low left back/side area ...

If you've had any changes recently ... some fiber might be useful to let your colon calm down a bit.

Nope, pretty sure it's not that, thankfully, I am very regular, thanks for asking :lmao: .
