Has anyone had any luck with loosing a lot of weight without exercising or taking weight loss pills?

I need to loose approx. 50 pounds. I am changing my diet (just eating more healthy, less sweets and drinking more water) and have lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks.   I know it´s a lot of fluids I´m loosing and that it won´t continue this way. But I was just wondering what I could expect if I keep on this path but don´t exercise.

Diet alone is not going to make you healthier. Sure, you may lose the weight, but your body needs to move. I would never recommend losing weight without exercise.

I want to find the opposite plan-losing weight without giving up the good stuff!! I've got no problem exercising, I love it. What I hate is giving up the things I like to eat!!!

LOL. Maybe we could swap?

I hate exercise. I like going for walk maybe 3-4 times a week, but no cardio.

I´ve found giving up most of what I ate not to be a problem at all. I thought it would be much harder.

50lbs is alot to lose w/o exercise - I'm not sure if it can be done.

I would try to do a little exercise to help tone your body while losing the weight. If you don't want to do aerobics or anything like that, try looking into those exercise bands, and a tape/dvd to show you how to use them. I'm actually looking into getting some of these for myself to use on days that I don't feel like doing my normal aerobics. They are suppossed to help tone, and strengthin your muscles. When you strengthin your muscles, is when you start to boost your metabolism, which is what helps you loose the weight.

Also, look into taking diet vitamins, I take these. They are daily vitamins that have an additional ingrediant to help slightly boost your metabolism. They are not a diet pill, just a vitamin. I think they are called One A Day Weight Smart (I get the generic version - its cheaper).

Good luck to you while pursuing your weight loss :)

Just a note on the Vitamins. When I was taking them I would get naucoius and dry heave(sorry TMI) about an hour later. I said something to my GYN and she said that quite a few patients had the same complaint. Some even thought they were preg because of the feeling.

I have to agree with the others there needs to be some exercise. Try taking the stairs not the elevator, parking a little farther away in the parking lot. Its amazing how lazy we have become.

Good luck on the weight loss.

Try WeightWatchers, which is a very balanced way of eating, and therefore, makes sure you don't lack any vitamines, etc.
And go look on the WISH-board here at the DIS.

There has been some new research that shows the exercise does not have to be all together, For example you could do 3 ten minute walks as opposed to 30 minutes and still burn calories.
Also weight training just 3 times a week is beneficial. When you build muscle -it burns more calories than fat does- so your metabolism rises.

Thanks everyone for the great advice!

Yes you could the equation is simple less calories in than calories used equals weighing less. The body doesn't care if you are sitting on your butt if you take less calories in than you use. Of course with no exercise or activity that amount used is very low and you would have to drastically cut your calories to do it. You would also loose a lot of muscle tone and not firm any of the tissue as you loose those calories. I don't like to exercise either but you can add a lot of activity without going to the gym. Park further away at work and stores. Go up and down your steps at home an extra 10 times in a day. Go to the mall and walk, ride your bike. Eating healthier is great but check the amount, most people over eat and have no idea what a serving size is and Fruit, some vegs. and fruit juice while having more vitamins has a ton of sugars and carbs.

It's not a good idea to lose that much weight without doing something to tone up especially if you're older otherwise the leftover skin just hangs.

I wonder when one becomes "older"? :rotfl:
I´m 28!

I'm 27, trying to loose weight and doing anything within my power to prevent my skin from "hanging"!
Once it hangs, it'll never ever firm up again! :scared1:  :scared:

In the 10 weeks from having my first gallbladder attack until I had it removed on 12/15, I lost 17 pounds. If you can stand it, this is what I had each day, EVERY day.

Breakfast: Toast unbuttered with jelly. Gatorade. OJ would be OK but I my stomach wasn't happy with it.

Lunch: White rice made with chicken bouillon, about a cup and and half cooked. One potato microwaved. Fat Free margarine for the potato.

Dinner: 1/2 boneless/skinless chicken breast. The rice mentioned above. Carrots or green beans. Bread with no fat margarine.

Snacks/Desserts: Jello with fat free Cool Whip. Frozen Yogurt. Animal Crackers. All of those I ate as much as I wanted.

Without the gallbladder problems I would think you could eat as much fruit and vegetables as you wanted to. Since my surgery I've put 5 pounds back on. I'm going to try and get back on that diet for one week every month to see if I can maintain the weight I lost. It's hard though. After being afraid to eat so many things I really like, life is now a banquet. :rotfl:

My DH and I were successful on Weight Watchers without exercising. I lost 27 pounds and he lost 60. Now I am trying to lose my baby weight - I gained about 45 pounds when pregnant (DS is now 2 :rolleyes1 ). I am not exercising per se, but with a 2 year old who doesn't like to have his teeth brushed, his diaper changed, his shoes or his coat put on - I am getting lots of aerobic activity :lmao:

This is just something I started this year because I've been too stationary during the work day. When you're at home, pay attention to the clock....if you're watching tv, maybe during each commercial, or between shows, or every hour on the hour.....make a point to get up and do something. Do 50 situps or some jumping jacks or stretches. If you keep doing this every so often it really will get you used to doing some exercises, and this way, you can even do 2-min intervals.

I had to start taking my vitamins after my morning workout because of that. I also had to cut back on my calcium and Omega 3 suppliments to 1 a day instead of 2, even without a workout those were making me queasy.
People don't realize that those things can be tough on your stomach.

Fitting little exercise breaks in can make a difference over time, and the best thing is that you scarcely notice. Park further away from the door when you go shopping and instead of strolling do a brisk walk from car to store. Instead of trying to carry all the groceries in at once, make several trips and carry one bag at a time. Take the elevator to one floor below the office and walk up the last flight-or if you only have a couple flights take the stairs at least 3 times a week.

As you start to lose weight, you really will want to be more active because you will feel so good.

Once you get closer to your goal weight, it will become very difficult. I've read that if you were overweight, and lose the weight, you will gain it back if you don't exercise. In order to be thin and healthy, you need to eat a balanced diet and exercise.

I'm almost 40, workout 5 - 6 days a week, and still have to eat MUCH less than I did at 28 to maintain the same weight!

I've lost about 40lbs with not much working out and not giving up my favorite foods. I guess it's sort of a water diet. I get the sport size bottles of water (I think 28 oz) and drink a bottle of water before I eat anything. Bottle of water, then breakfast, bottle of water, lunch, bottle of water, have a snack, bottle of water have dinner, if I want dessert, I have a bottle of water first. Also, for every alchoholic drink I have (not that often) I drink a bottle of water. While I'm not denying myself anything to eat, this keeps me from binging since drinking the water gives me a break between meals and I'm not as hungry once I eat. I now find myself passing on unhealthy snacks just because it's not worth the effort of drinking another bottle of water.

Interesting.
