I'm looking for some feedback on Weight Watchers please. I went to meetings several years ago, when it was an older points plan.

Over the last couple of years, I've slowly gained a little over 30 lbs, and it needs to come off! :scared1: I liked going to the meetings before, but between work and having a toddler, none of the meeting times really meet my needs now. I could go to Saturday morning meetings I suppose, but I'm hesitant to give up my only day that I get to sleep in a little. :)

So, I was thinking about maybe doing it online, but I'm confused. What's the difference between Weight Watchers online, and eTools? From what I can figure out, the eTools is only for people who go to meetings, right? So, what exactly is the WW online program then?

Or, do I really need to pay for either one since there are some Weight Watchers apps for Android phones? (I saw several on the Android Play market, is any one better than the others?) I already have the WW electronic points calculator, plus the big restaurant book, and big food list book. (Those materials are from the 2011 plan, but I'm assuming that it couldn't have changed that much in a year.)

Feedback please?

Not much advice, but they did just change the whole points thing and I think it was at the beginning of 2012, so if that timing is right, none of your old materials will calculate the points correctly. I haven't been a member for a while, so I can't say anything more specific.

I think if you join the online version, you get access to all the etools things. online is for those who don't want to or can't go meetings.

Online is for people to do the programs without going to meetings. The apps still require you to be an online or etools member to access the information.

If you have a smart phone, there are some non-official weight watchers apps that are one time pay that you can track your points too.

Both my husband & I did the WW online only & both reached our goal weights easily ( I lost 22, he lost 55). The online provides you with your weight tracker, points allotment, points calculator & online community, recipes etc. It was extremely easy to follow and stick to. I downloaded the app to my android phone and was able to track and calculate points for foods on the go.

The new program is called Points Plus. The points are different values since fruits and most veggies are zero. The new plan is based more on glycemic index than calories.

There are several plans you can do:

If you do online, that is just the etools. No meeting support.

If you do meetings then you can do just meetings, no etools. The etools is an add on unless you are doing a monthly pass, then it is included in your monthly fee. etools is very helpful even with meetings if you need things on the go. I live and die by my smartphone, so I just get the monthly pass so my etools are included. I like the accountability of having a meeting to go to and weigh in at. It's so easy to become complacent when there is no one to call me on it.

Good luck!!

Love WW! My weight loss ticker is thanks to them. :)

There are lots of meetings now that allow children to be there. If you have a center with extended hours (not just open during/for the meetings), stop in and see if they have meetings where they are happy to have kids there. They didn't really used to allow it, but they've gotten more open about it (I've now been to meetings with my kid or where there were others kids present in WA, AZ, and Vancouver BC). So don't let the toddler be a hindrance unless you've already asked at all the meetings!

If you do it online, you get access to the tools and their online shopping site. (their message boards are free and open to all, which is great, but means you can't get into the full nitty-gritty of the plan, and have to be more vague or general there) IF you go to meetings, you can JUST do the meetings without etools, or you can get the Monthly Pass if your center has that option (you pay monthly and get a weigh in each week, all the meetings you can go to, AND etools). With Monthly Pass's etools, however, you lose the online shopping tab because they figure you can buy the stuff at your meeting.

Anyway, it's good stuff, and if you're interested, you should join anyway you can! You can always change later on.

SparkPeople is a great free online weight loss community. I'm sure you can get great info there. A lot of SP members also do WW.

Lose it is another free app. I dropped WW and switched to lose it. There is also a website with message boards.

My Fitness Pal is another free community and app that you can do. We have a LOT of ex WW people over there who are now losing when WW did not work for them... or they got tired of paying for it.

I second the My Fitness Pal recommendation. It has worked very well for me. Free.
