Weight Watchers and Disney

As for healthy choices, I found lots at Disney. I especially tried to eat healthy at breakfast and generally just had a banana. By the end of the week, if I'm being honest, I was having a banana and a chocolate croissant for breakfast so I then had to choose fruit or something else healthy for lunch. The salads at the counter service places were pretty good. Finally, if you don't like something, spit it out. Don't eat something at WDW that isn't incredible. There are just too many delish things there to waste even one mouthful on something you aren't crazy about.

Great advice in your post!

I also am trying to be healthy!! I found by looking ahead on the menus online (such as AllEars.net) I was able to plan ahead. I think this will be my saving grace in the end. I could find choices that fit closely to the plan. Obviously watching portions as I dine will play largely into it. I'm on the dining plan, so that too, will alot only so much "eating" for me. Not that I'm too worried, being too busy to eat! LOL. ;) Also, when I saw the opportunity to ask for healthier options - such as Ohana breakfast that we'll be attending - I was able to substitute turkey sausage for the pork (probably only a few calorie savings, but it's something) and asked for the sugar free waffles. I've heard good things from people who've tried it, so it's worth a shot, right? We'll be walking and swimming, so we'll get lots of "activity points"... And as for the snacks and such... I do plan to try a Dole Whip at some point and most likely splurge on a funnel cake. And just because there are desserts offered on those Dining Plans does not mean we have to take the fatty options. A lot of places (again by looking ahead on the menus all over the internet) you can find many places offer sugar-free options or stuff for people trying to stay healthy. It'll help a little at least if you need that dessert for sure.

That's just what I'll be doing. Don't want to totally NOT eat right just because of vacation, but I'll also not skimp on the couple things I'm looking forward to.

I have been trying to find this too. I know when I was in college they had Dole Whip and remember it being a healthier choice than ice cream. I did a google search and could not find nutrition info anywhere. If anyone this out please pass it on. I am staying at the Polynesian and they have their own Dole Whip machine:cool1:

I'll be watching as well for this! LOL

I can't even find the nutritional values on it out there to calculate it myself to share! Hope someone else might be able to help! I'd love to know. I'll keep looking in the meantime.

EDIT: I found this link for a recipe for it... does it look close enough to use the nutritional values for? If so we can calculate points based on that I guess... http://www.recipezaar.com/126755

This is great...many...many...many WW peeps out there. Thanks for all the advise. I know I will be able to do this. I'm going to check out the menus on allears.

Another WW here (2 lbs from first 10 % goal - I think I made it already but missed weigh in this week) -- anyway ... sitting here in my SKINNY JEANS & already worrying about eating at WDW when I have Thanksgiving and Christmas to get thru - :scared1: !

Thanks for all the tips. I will have to check out WISH --

This time we decided NOT to use the DDP. DH and I were just too tempted! I don't need appies and a dessert. Anyway, I have been carefully looking over the menus and am crossing my fingers to do it healthier next time!

Good luck to all of you too!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

I'm planning a trip to the big WORLD in April 2008. I'm a Weight Watchers member. Any tips to stay on the program with all that FOOOOOOD?

Got one word for ya: EAT. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

As a "career dieter" I have found that if I deprive myself too much, I tend to fail. My advice would be to do some extra exercise before you go. You will get PLENTY of exercise while at the world.

My thoughts are:
Try to eat a healthy breakfast. They have fruit bowls available all over and those are good snacks, especially in hot weather. Don't buy sugar-filled sodas and stay away from fried stuff like fries and onion rings. Treat yourself to a couple nice ice creams or pastries while on your trip so you don't feel deprived. Bottom-line, enjoy your trip and minimize empty calories!
I have to go now...my stomach is gurggling.....

Good for you!!!:yay: You may shed a tear when you hit goal. I did when I did my first 10%...I'm on round 2. I took the summer off  and just rejoined. I have 6 1/2 more months to go and I get gitty:woohoo: almost every day.

:cool1: I'm having too much fun in here. I'm enjoying all the tips...When I get a good one I will share.

I'm a fairly new Weight Watcher as well, just starting my sixth week. I've lost 11.8 lbs so far. We're leaving for WDW next weekend.

Here's my plan:

1. Eat foods I like, making sure they're foods worth eating.
2. Watch portion sizes.
3. Remember to eat more fresh fruits (something I'm really enjoying) and salads or vegetables.
4. Stay away from chips, fries, anything too salty or too fatty.
5. I will definitely have a Dole Whip.
6. I might have a very small piece of fudge--depends on my mood.
7. Drink lots of water. This one won't be too hard because it's something I do every trip anyway.

My plan actually isn't too different from what I do every day. The difference is that I'm able to make specific plans and a detailed journal at home. I also, obviously, don't have Dole Whip's at home.

When we get home, I'll hit the gym and get right back to planning, journaling, weighing & measuring.

For me, this is truly a lifestyle change. So, since I won't give up my trips to the happiest place on earth, I have to figure out how to eat while I'm there!

I would try and stay away from buffets and eat at table or counter service restaurants and split entrees. We do this all the time. Also, there really alot of "healthy" food available - especially fruits. Look over the menus on the web so you know where to find it, and accept before you go that it will probably not be the best value for the money.

One of my favorite quotes from my WW leader is "Let Life get in the way of WW. Life is for celebrating - just do it within reason."

So, if I use that quote, I know that I can eat the wonderful food offerings at WDW, such as a taste of this&that at the Biergarten, a special dessert, breakfast lasagna at CP, a dolewhip, etc. However, it does not mean that I can eat the chips & dip, ice cream, doritos, burgers, donuts, candy bars, french fries etc. that I can get anywhere else. Don't splurge just to splurge, but splurge instead to enjoy the offerings you don't typically get at home.

Add that to all the walking, you should be just fine!

Hope that helps!

I went down on WW in mid-September. I tried to limit my portions, but still ordered what I really wanted. I would order dessert since we were on the dining plan but didn't really go for cheesecake (40g fat per serving, no thanks!!) I gained 1.8 pounds while I was there and we did some serious walking for the full 6 days we were there. However, I got right back on the plan the day we returned home and took off 3.4 pounds that week. Your body has a way of stabilizing itself, especially when you make good choices!

What great advice you are giving me. I eat pickles instead of potato chips. I utilized them on my last trip. I am definately hitting up the fruit this time round. One question though....last time I didn't snack throughout the day, just keeping to breakfast...lunch...and dinner. Should I stop and have my "scheduled" healthy snack even if I'm not really all that hungry?

If I weren't at all hungry, I wouldn't bother with a snack--unless it creates some type of low blood sugar type of situation.

For me, its more important to remember to actually eat three meals a day! So, even if I think I'm not hungry, I make sure to eat a breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The result is that I'm rarely hungry in between.

Take it one day at a time and see how you're feeling in between. If you feel like a snack, have something healthy. If not, then skip the snack. Just make sure you're really not hungry before deciding to skip it. Otherwise, if you're anything like me, you may be tempted to overdo on the next meal!

I'll be watching as well for this! LOL

I found this on another thread - user "neonurse" was kind enough to find the info on the Dole website (DUH - I should have looked there! LOL) and found the nutritional info for the actual Dole Whip. Here is the info:

Just got back from WDW yesterday, hopped on the scales this morning ( I'm a glutten for punishment) and gained 2 lbs. Not bad considereing we were on the dining plan and I only had salad once for lunch, and never skipped a desert. I watched my pts pretty close before we left and took off a couple of extra lbs....so I would have a buffer zone. I've been on maint. with WW for about 1 1/2yrs.

Because of the heat....and walking....I never really craved the snacks, but definantly splurged at lunch and supper. Lobster, steaks, taters, breads and so me of the best deserts ever.

There is no way I'm going to WDW and counting WW pts. I a agree with the majority of the OP. Save up and make up when you get home. And get back on the scale the day after your vacation, face the music, and get back on WW to get ready for your next trip.

Good Luck all......just remember to enjoy, and don't be too hard on yourself for splurging!

This is all wonderful advice! I appreciate it too! I've on WW and down 20 pounds and leaving for Vero Beach and WDW this Saturday. Since I am spending most of my time at Vero Beach and not getting as much walking as I would if it were all week at the World, I plan on utilizing the gym and walking on the beach in the morning or evening.

OP- Last time I was on WW in 2005 and spent a week in WDW, I didn't stay on program, walked a TON, and drank a LOT of water and lost a pound. I also didn't completely go off for every meal. I tried to not snack too much in between meals and all that walking didn't make me too hungry. Good luck!

I just got back Sept. 30 after 10 days free dining at WDW. I ate pretty much whatever I wanted, figaro fries, burgers....mmmmm twinkee triamasu!! I gained 2.4 pounds. Wow did I feel bloated!!! That Monday I went right back on program. By next weigh in I lost 4.8 pounds and made my 10%. As I see it, I don't go on vacation that often, so when I do, I plan to enjoy myself. Just get right back on plan as soon as you get home. It seems to work for me and I get discouraged pretty quickly.

First off, let me say I think WW is a great plan. I used to it to lose 35 lbs and have mostly kept it off.

I'm not "on plan" anymore, but I'm pretty stable and I eat pretty healthy (nutrution major) When I went to disney last year I was relatively good with my eating--tried to make healthy choices--ended up overeating at Boma and being sick the rest of vacation and ended up losing 4-5 lbs.

This time I'm going to eat what I want. I'm one of those maniacs who walks (speedily) back and forth through the parks--I can't follow the rides in a logical order, haha. :cool1: Anyway I just know last year at 50's, I went with the stuffed pepper as the "healthy" choice and have been craving my DBF's fried chicken ever since.

My advice--if it's worth it and you really want it, eat it  There are things you can get only there and it's not you;re just sitting there, you'll most likely be very active. So enjoy yourself. At worst you gain a few lbs. Once you're back on plan, you'll most likely lose them lickity split So try not to worry about it.

Even if one doesn't stick to their guns you can easily stay on track if you are on the points plan.
