Weight or size limit for rides

I used to wear a size 30/32 pant (women's) so I was quite large. I had no problems fitting on any ride whatsoever. All seat belts were able to be buckled, fit in all smaller rides like space mountain. Disney is VERY pooh friendly. Only problem I ever had was getting through some of the turnstiles into the rides but as long as I went in sideways it was fine.

Lucky for me I have worked very hard and will be going to Disney this summer in a size 12 pant so I can't wait to see how different the experience is for me!:cool1:

Congratulations! You should be so proud!

I am most worried about BTMRR, Splash Mountain, Expedition Everest and Test Track because I am short and carry most of my weight in my thighs, behind and stomach. Did you have any problems with any of those rides before you lost all your weight?

I'm short too, apple shaped - I had no problems on those rides at all.

You may want to look at the WDW at Large section of All Ears. It shows pictures of most of the ride vehicles along with first hand accounts of people who can fit or not fit. That being said, WDW is much friendlier than Universal when it comes to fitting larger people.

The only thing you might have to worry about is who is riding with you. I know that BTMRR and Splash Mountain have lap bars that are shared by both riders in the car (don't know about the others). If you are trying to ride with a little kid, the bar may lock too high, to fit you, and not properlly secure the little one. So you might want to let them ride with someone else in the party on the coasters with one lapbar.

For the record, I was a pants size 27 last time I went and had no problems anywhere.

I hated Universal because it was so size restrictive and I've never had that problem at Disney except at Sum of All Thrills. It was really tight, so much so that after I did the test seat I opted out. I also don't love the backstage tour at HS because my knees are so crammed in but I fit just fine.

at my biggest size I rode splash mountain with no problems at all. Honestly, I don't remember there being a belt or bar on the ride though. It has been a couple of years. do they have them now? maybe I forgot about them but I don't think they were there. when I got on we just sat and went away!

BTMRR was fine. Rode with my son next to me. He was a huskier 10 year old at the time. No problems at all.

I have never ridden expedition Everest, but I rode the rock'n roller coaster at HS and I bet it would be similar. no problems whatsoever. No problems on test track either and I rode in the back where they had 3 seats instead of 2. plenty of room in the side seats and the belts were LONG! I would probably avoid the middle seat of test track though.

As a general rule I always tried to get an "end" seat at any ride like soarin, test track, or anywhere else because I didn't feel like I was squishing a person next to me.

I remember being so paranoid and worrying so much about fitting on the rides! I obsessed over the WDW at large site. Seriously, though, don't stress!!! If I could fit on every ride at a size 30/32 (carrying most of my weight in my stomach and hips) then you really should not worry!

I was going to say the same thing. I was a size 24/26 before I started to lose weight, now a size 18 yeah! And working hard on it still. Anyway, I was able to do everything and go on everything, but I started to have to say no to granddaughter riding with me on things like btmrr because the lap bar just could not hold her in next to me, she is 8 and very skinny. I think that would be your real problem, just make sure on lap bar rides she is with an adult who can hold the self in.

Thanks Lisa! Did you go recently? How tight were the lap bars?

Thank you! I have been on that website a lot recently. I get confused though because people who weigh more than me and are only an inch or two taller can ride with no problem...but then someone else who weighs less than me says they were a tight fit. I think it all comes down to where you carry your weight. Since I carry mine mostly in the middle (thighs, behind and stomach)...I am worried that lap bars may not latch and belts may not buckle. Most accounts make it look like I will be fine but then I read one that says they couldn't ride and see that they weigh less than me and I for some reason wipe out all the other accounts that look like I should have no problem.

I am definitely going to be careful of this. I am going with my husband and 6 year old son. On the rides where there is a shared lap bar, I am going to have him ride with my husband to play it safe.

Splash Mountain apparently put in lab bars about a year and a half ago. From what I read it is more to keep people from jumping out of the ride to take pictures.

I think BTMRR is my biggest fear. Rode it as a kid and would love to ride it this time. It is hard to believe that I will fit in the roller coaster now. I am 5'4" and 290 right now. I wear a 3x (26/28) pants and a 2x (22/24) top. For some reason I am afraid the lap bar won't lock. I have seen some accounts of people who are bigger having no problem and even saying they had plenty of room with the lap bar...and then I see people who are 50 lbs smaller saying they were so squished on that ride. I don't mind being a bit squished...just want to make sure the bar will latch.

Thank you for your insight on Test Track too. That is probably my second biggest worry. I read someone else's account who said they sat in the middle seat and that if you are larger you should go for the middle seat...so that was making me worried about the outer seats. I don't have any problems with the seatbelts in cars so I was hoping the side seats would be similar and that even though it crosses the shoulder like the front seat of a car, the belt would have plenty of slack to cross over and latch.

Thank you for your reassurances. I have been obsessing over the "Everything Pooh Sized" thread and the WDW At Large site too. Like I said....most accounts look like I should be fine at my measurements. Its just those few on there that look smaller than me having trouble which gets me all worried again. :sad2:

Remember that everyone's idea of being squished or having a tight fit is different. And what you said about BTMRR and people being squished might mean side-to-side with their riding partners, not from the lap bar.

My DH is a big guy and used to be bigger, and he hasn't had problems at WDW. (two problems at Disneyland Resort, one with a ride that's no longer there and the other on a ride that I'm not sure has an equivalent at WDW...and he still has problems at Universal) Big Thunder clicks down just fine. EE does too, though his ride picture looks as though he's in pain from it (he was just scared and holding on). Test Track is a seatbelt.

I have read a couple of threads about Kali River Rapids - they won't allow use of a seatbelt extender on that ride so there have been occasions when a guest was told they could not ride. But I think it was like 4X-5X size people. I think that's the old ride I recall reports about.

Enjoy your vacation!

My size was similar to yours a few years back when I last went. I am 5'4" and I was 310 at the time. I wore a 30/32 pant and a 4x shirt. So actually, my circumference was bigger than yours currently is.

BTMRR was absolutely NO PROBLEM at all. the bar does not come down to one set level. If I remember correctly you pull it down till it hits your tummy and it locks itself in place at that point. very accommodating. I agree with the poster above who said that some people may be saying they were squished from a "side to side" perspective...not from the lap bar. The lap bar was not bad at all. And this is coming from a person who had to ask for a seat belt extender on the airplane trip on the way down!;)

I rode the Kali River Rapids too and the seatbelt went around me and my son as well. :)

I totally understand your anxiety for whether or not the rides will be accommodating. At my peak weight of 310 I could not ride on half the rides at Six Flags, a good portion of rides at our local amusement park, and had to have extender at airplanes. Most places are not very "size friendly". But even though I struggled at those places Disney was the one place I could go and ride EVERYTHING with my family. Seriously wish I wouldn't have stressed about it so much because it was just a nonissue. Your weight and clothing size is smaller than mine was a few years back when I could do everything so try not to stress. You are gonna be fine and you are gonna have a GREAT time!:cheer2:

congrats on your loss! I know it can be very hard! you should be proud!

My sister, now a size 18, was a 2X when we went in 2009 and she had no issues on anything she rode. I hope that helps.

Thanks! That's a good point. I took their accounts to mean that the lap bar wouldn't lock without squishing them until they were really uncomfortable...but maybe they meant squished with their riding partner. On BTMRR I plan on riding by myself at first and having my son ride with my husband so I can see how much space I have with me.

Does the Test Track seatbelt seem to have the same amount of slack as a regular car seatbelt?

Thank you! It helps hearing your experiences. I think I assumed BTMRR, Splash Mountain and Expedition Everest all needed to get to a certain point to lock...but if there are many levels of locking I should be okay. I really want to just sit back and enjoy this vacation and not be worried about not fitting on the rides.
