I am thinking of trying something to help me control my appetite. I know alot of you think these are a waste but I think I need something.
A little about me. I am presently disabled with neuropathy and fibromyalgia. I haven't worked since my chemo which caused the above problems. and since I am home all day and bored silly the only thing I do is go on the computer and eat. I am trying to do more fruits and veggies but I can't control my appetite and the sweets always call me louder than the apples.
I can't exercise for long because my legs go numb and I fall if I continue to stand.
I also have lymphedema in the arm where I had my mastectomy so I can't lift weights or do too much with that arm. simple stretching and arm lifts only.
I can't do many "core" exercises since I had a TRAM flap when I had my mastectomy. That is where they rebuild your removed breast with the stomach muscle. So I only have a stomach muscle on one side of my stomach. I can't do sit ups anymore. But they had to do a tummy tuck when I had the surgery so my stomach is tight and flat...
I am gaining mostly in my legs and butt, to the point that the cellulite is a disgrace. My legs were always so tight because I used to walk at least 5 miles a day before I got cancer.
there are so many on sale this week but I don't know where to start.
I also have high blood pressure so I don't want anything that will make me crazy or lightheaded. Hope someone can help. Peggie

i applaud your determination with all the hurdles you face!! how inspiring!!

i too am a sweet tooth, there is a herb that is supposed to help curb sweet cravings....Chromium Picolinate

here's an interesting link i found while looking for that herb's name :teeth:

The supplements are a waste. Even one that have an effect like Green Tea, it is very minor - like you might lose a pound a year from it.

I don't know about Chromium Picolinate. I've been reading lately that replacing some sugar with Cimmanon will help though.

Also, it sounds like you need a hobby because boredom can cause you to eat more.

ohmom, thanks for that site. I will try some of those listed. I have tried fennel seed before but after a while I can't tolerate even looking at it.
I also just discovered that I am allergic to salad greens. I have had salads before and got itchy all over but these past few days I have had salad every day for lunch and was going crazy itching. I have always thought it was dry winter skin.
I stopped eating the salads for 2 days and did everything else normally and the itch stopped. I had salad today for lunch and have just about worn out my Mickey back scratcher. Have been using the Dole salad greens so I will buy a head of lettuce tomorrow and try that alone. Maybe it is something in the mix.
SlickThomas, I used to have lots of hobbies, I used to do needlepoint, sew, crafts galore, garden, house repairs cook healthy, etc... but now my fingers are numb and I can't do anything with small finger manipulation. It took me over 5 min. so far to type what I have here. TV and sitting are my new hobbies.
If anyone else knows about a supplement or somethng I can try let me know. Right now I am trying to drink lots of water although I add the crystal light to a 32 oz cup of water because I don't like the taste of plain water. Here where I live you can smell the chlorine in a glass of water so I have to cover it up with something.

You should consider taking your concerns up with your doctor. With all of your issues, I would not go introducing any type of supplement into your diet without having their effects monitored. I have a lot of problems myself (although luckily no where as bad as yours). Lets just say, fibro and certain foods are not friends! Personal experience!

Your problem is boredom and lack of exercises. Everyone craves sweets when faced with your current situation. You should ask your doctor for the name of an occupational therapist. He or she can help you get back some of your abilities so you are not so helpless and bored all day.

Oh and on a side note, when i am having a bad day pain wise, I go for a swim. The water tends to make the pain more manageable.

No advice but I wanted to say HI and if you want a buddy for motivation . I think you are a great motivator! :worship: (My mom is a 21 year cancer suvivor) :goodvibes
