Well I still have a while to go before my Wedding and I had been going really well with my diet, but Christmas came along and I kinda forgot about the diet:guilty: So as the festivities are over and all my tasty food is gone, I want to get back into the swing of things and get back to the diet. I was following the GI diet and previously did very well, but having been back on the diet for a week, nothing has changed and I'm feeling helpless! I intend to go dress shopping in April to see what styles suit me etc as I aim to order my dress online from the States. So really I only have until the end of April to lose the majority of the weight.
Does anyone else appear to be struggling after Christmas to shift those pounds? Any other tips or other diets that may be better?
I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and carbs are my enemy so the likes of weight watchers and diets like that don't work well for me. I'm thinking my body has maybe got used to the GI diet and my weight loss has really slowed down. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi SC - I'm in a bit of a situation too ordered my dress in my current size and am looking to have slimmed down quite a bit before my fittings start. I am have a matter of weeks to do this in :(

So last week I cut out all the rubbish and also the bread and potatoes and I have managed to lose 11 pounds in a week :) I know this is extreme but I am just stocking up on fruit and healthy veggies and salad making soup etc..

Oh also make sure you eat everything slowly this really does work listen to your stomach

Try this for a week and make sure you drink lots of water :)

Good luck

Nicci

My body is the same as yours! It takes a while for things to "kick in" when I'm exercising and eating well. It's almost like my body is waking up from a long nap and unsure what to do about all this health-business. The one thing I've found that's helped is green tea. I know it may sound crazy, but the tea helps me get enough liquids, makes me fill full, and it's supposed to help speed up your metabolism. I don't know if that's true or not, but every time I've done this off-on-wagon thing over the last five years the tea has always made the difference...it can't hurt...

Hi future DB,

Im looking to slim down a little for my vow renewal & heres what Im gonna try & do.

I work on the 10th floor of my building, so I take the stairs every chance I get.

When Im at home I try to do stuff around the house to get me off my behind.
Im trying to find a friend to pair up with to take walks.
In summer I walk to the stores nearby with my daughter.
When I go to the store, I dont search out the closest spot, so I can get in the extra walking.
little stuff like this helps...its better than nothing

as for food:
I LOVE the George Foreman Grill.....you can cook so much on it & its healthier, like grilled cheese, panninis, hamburger, chicken, veggies, etc ...I love it so much mine is almost broken(i need to upgrade)
I am for stuff that tastes good & low fat/low cal...like starbucks, I get the Pomegrante frap or Wendys I get the Backed potatoe, Taco bell can do items "fresco" which is chunky salsa instead of sauce.
I eat salted soy nuts for snacks & they're yummy...got my office hooked
Of course I splurge once in a while, but I try to do it 1-2 days a week & be good the rest.
I find it easier as i do it....but if your not used to cutting back, dont hold your nose & jump.....take it slow or it will be to overwheming & make it easier to give up.
Discovery Health has a challenge right now & to sign up its free...check it out for extra help.
Good luck & dont get discouraged....you will have a wonderful wedding regardless of any diet outcomes:yay:

SC- You and I have spoken about this before and weight loss is quite a challenge. I indulged so much over the holidays that I did not even like food when the new year started. I did rejoin weight watchers (which I know would not work in your case) HOWEVER I also joined Salsa Classes twice a week. It's one hour straight and you SWEAT! I have noticed a big difference. I combine that with going to the gym 3-4 days a week (we have a gym at my office). It's a horribly long process but I know you will get there! Don't be discouraged we are the only ones that can make us acheive the goals! I know you can do it! Start slowly LOTS of GREEN VEGGIES and whole grains and you are on your way! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
The DIS family is here for you! Good luck and keep at it!

I know what everyone is going through. I myself really haven't tried to diet but I am in the home strech now. I need to do something. I go for a fitting in 2 weeks. I started to get serious last night and got on my treadmill for 30 minutes. I have also started to drink green tea. My mom started drinking green tea last week and lost 5 pounds, she thinks it the tea that helped. I also joined Sparkpeople.com..its free! You can track you food and exercises and it helps me stay a motivated. Once you put you goal in, mine is to lose 15-20 lbs by March 18. It calculates everthing and tell how may calories, fat, carbs,..etc per day and how many calories you need to burn per day based on the food you enter.

I am in the same boat. Christmas holidays kind of threw my healthy eating off. I have been eating healthy (grilled chicken, wheat bread, steamed veggies) for a week now. I have been exercising every day (high intensity for at least 1 hr) and I have been drinking lots of water. I have gained 3 lbs!!! I dont understand how this is possible. This disney bride definately needs some encouragement. I have until july to get into shape!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read a magazine article that said that your weight can fluctuate within 5 pounds a day. Your true weight is when you wake up, after you go to the bathroom and before you eat and get dressed. Ff you're weighing yourself at different times of the day with with clothes and shoes (especially warmer, heavier winter clothes) it will most likely be a little off, so don't get discouraged! :)

I can relate to everyone, I had a plan to lose 5lbs a month and be 30 lbs lighter before the wedding, but time flies and before I knew it the wedding is in 10 weeks and I haven't lost a pound!!
I guess I will just resign myself to having a double chin in my wedding pictures. That's the thing that bothers me the most, but it's really too late to do anything about it now. I'm not totally giving up but i'm not going to expect miracles either.

Good luck to everyone!

Summer-Caitlin & Jasnal - it's only been a week, right? My personal trainer said that it takes two weeks for any change to show up in your body - good or bad. I've noticed it, too. If I eat junk for a week or two, I think I'm OK cuz my body hasn't changed. Then, in the third week, bam - all those cupcakes reappear.

By the same token, it isn't til I've been good for three weeks or so that I start to see results. So hang in there!

And you, too, i*heart*villains. 2 1/2 months is plenty of time to make small changes that'll make you feel great, like tone your arms up a bit or just increase your energy through regular exercise. We'll all support you! :grouphug:

hi SC.... I'm getting married on September 1st at Sea Breeze Point at 10 am and am trying to lose 40 to 50 pounds by April or May before I buy my dress as well..... I already feel like time is ticking and I have no time to waste!

Personally, I"m going to start eating raw foods and go on a raw diet... basically it's a lot of fruits and veggies and no meat or dairy.. it sounds really limiting but it's not too bad I'm finding.

I make a big bowl of mixed fruit in the mornings for breakfast like bananas and strawberries with a little honey on top and it's really yummy.. then for lunch I"m going to start with lots of salads.. and I'm NOT a salad person so I'm trying to find lots of different and unique salads with nuts and avocados in them. I'm also incorporating fruit smoothies with greens in them like spinach and kale.

supposedly people on this diet lose weight quickly... I think some people have lost like 20 to 30 pounds in the first two months! I don't know if that's average (probably not) but I'm hoping I can lose weight quickly because there are no carbs or cheese (which I LOVE).

anyway, you can go to www.alissacohen.com to find out more or just look up raw foods and there should be lots of info out there on it. good luck!! :goodvibes

like the rest of you I too have added on a couple of pounds over the holiday. First I want to say Jasnal don't feel bad about gaining the weight. You are more than likely gaining muscle right now before the fat is going away. Anyways, what I wanted to share was that I bought my dress while I was still getting into shape. I was between a size 10 and 12. The ladies at the store tried to convince me to buy the 10 because it did zip up, but it was very tight. I ordered the 12, and now it is too big and has to be taken in. Every bridal magazine I have ever read will tell you that it is easier to have a dress taken in, and very difficult to have it let out.
