Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Julie -- Have you tried the cinnamon pecan Special K? It's yummy!

I punted today and didn't work out before work, which means I probably won't do anything...but you never know, maybe I'll do a quick walk before Grey's!

Maria :upsidedow

Hey Lean Meaners!

Chris...nice job on the 4 miles! It's good to have great run! They balance out the "crazy" ones.
Deb...I feel so bad for the poor girl who'll date DS....don't get me wrong, he's fabulous;) , but with 3 younger brothers:scared: there is no peace or privacy:lmao: Congrats for reading on the elliptical (I have tried before and it just doesn't work for me). My neighbor's dog is the sweetest and was just really excited to see me.
Beth... those pounds will come off...it just seems that the closer we get to goal, the harder it is.
Julie....brownies, YUM! brussel sprouts:eek:   !
Cindy...our :lovestruc day celebrations sound the same! Have fun at your run....where is it? Are you feeling better?
Maria...your luncheon sounds great and I love the creative awards:cool2: . How'd it go?
Mike...how'd the aspirin and Dewar's work for you?

I'm recovering from the dog injury. I love dogs and she knows that I always come up to see her....she was just overly excited! DS has decided to run a 1/2 marathon on Sunday, he's hoping for a 1:20--I'll let you know. My 2lbs are hanging on and I'm officially ticked! I even had a stomach bug on Tues. and they're still hanging on! WTH! My girlfriend's and I are still trying to decide if we should to Disney in Jan. to run the 1/2 together. We'd love to go, but money is always an issue (especially when it's just the girls and no DH or kids) and did I mention that most of us don't work outside the home?
We looked into TnT, but we'd have to raise quite a bit and we'd be asking alot of the same people:confused3 . Oh well, we'll figure it out. I ran 5.5 miles yesterday while watchingNights in Rodanthe . I guess I'll finish it today as well as the Jillian DVD. Happy day friends.

Maria, that sounds yummy, but DD is allergic to nuts so we don't buy anything with nuts in it.

Hey everyone,

Quick check in for. I am down 2 pounds this week! So excited about that. And I am starting to see some slight definition in my arms! (thank-you Jillian!)

My shin splints are horrible, so I am off running for a few days. I have a 1/2 next weekend, so I want to feel as good as I can for that. I did get new shoes and hopefully they will help too.

I will probably be MIAfor a week when Delena and I go to NC. I'll be back around next friday! I plan on continuing on with core and some light running starting Monday!!

Amy

Hello everyone!

This is my first time back on this thread in about a week. When I got back from NY, I was swamped with work. As soon as I got that under control, I got sick! I managed to catch some nasty bug that gave me an awful head cold. It was just a cold, no flu symptoms, but I was pretty miserable. Long story short, I have not worked out in EONS! And I have the Princess marathon coming up in just about 2 weeks! Let's see....since completing the marathon I have done one 4-mile walk in January and a smattering of cross-training. Oh yeah, and those stairs in NYC! I was hoping to get at least one
8- or 10-miler in before the big day, but it ain't looking good, folks. I'm hosting a dinner for 20 this weekend, and although I am only required to prepare the main course, I know I won't have time to get the mileage in on Saturday and we've got something else on Sunday so that leaves that out. Next week we have houseguests, so that's another missed opportunity. I generally prefer to do my long walks on the weekend, because the traffic is a major deterrent during the week. Has anyone else ever done a half-marathon completely cold?

Beth: Happy belated birthday! :cake: party: :cake: (sorry I missed it) Was it the 16th? That's my oldest son's BD also.

Everyone else: :wave2: You guys have been really good about dieting and exercise. Seems like I just went and jumped off the wagon with both feet. :sad2: Now i'm desperately trying to hitch a ride back on!

Jeanne-I've got a half next weekend and I haven't done much running. A couple 6 milers. My shin splints were too bad for me to get in a 8-9 miler yesterday. I am having faith in the fact that I have a good base. You WILL be fine. :goodvibes

Good afternoon Meaners!

Man, this week has flown by and I haven't done much of anything running wise. 3 miles on Tuesday and scheduled for 3 tonight.

We arrived home from Daytona late Saturday night. Had a great time! So, it was recliner time on Sunday. I even got in a "NASCAR Nap" on Sunday afternoon before the green flag.

Here are a few pictures.

Cool pictures Vic. I like the smashed up tail on that one truck(?).

Hey Lean Team, keep getting out there and logging those miles. No time to be slacking off.

As for me, all my 2009/2010 reservations are made for the WDW marathon. Yep, airline, hotel, rental cars, and the Disney cruise are all set up. Now I just have to work the next 10 months (and then some) to pay for it all. :rotfl2:

I'm headed out for another 8 1/4 miler today after work.

See y'all out on the road.

Vic: Cool pictures! What did you think of the race.....ie, Jr.'s mishap with Vickers??? Love to hear what you think!

Jeff: You are a workout/running guru........you are racking up some impressive mileage! :cool1: :cool1:

I got the gym in, but skipped Pump class. My neck is really bothering me, and was afraid it was from Pump itself. So, I spent my time on the EFX and elliptical. Saw Nancy, she was working out with her ds#2 as her trainer! :lovestruc Such a good boy!

Dinner was slow cooked pork roast in the crock pot, which was delish!

Beth

Happy Aloha Friday Meaners.

Logged 8 1/4 miles, 1 hour 14 minutes.

Hope you're all getting in your reps and laps.

Have a great weekend!

Vic: great photos....thanks for sharing!

Beth: tell me more about your pork crockpot recipe. Everytime I make a pork roast using lean meat it comes out dry. If I use a cheap fatty cut, it comes out delicious, but it's so bad for you.

Well, I had good intentions, but when I got up this morning the temp was 23 degrees and for NC that is bone-chilling COLD! So no long walk for me today.
I think I am just going to wing it at the half. Trying to squeeze in a workout with my big dinner party this weekend and houseguests next weekend is stressing me out. The good news is that 2 weeks from today I leave for WDW....yay!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Jeanne: Well, I was at Wegman's last weekend and they had a great sale on pork shoulder. The piece was over six pounds and I paid less than $6 for it. It had a little fat on it, which came off easily. I cooked it in the crockpot on low for about 8 hours seasoned with salt, pepper, and a little barbeque seasoning powder. I shredded it before the gym, and put a little homemade barbeque sauce on it (I make it myself, so it's low in sugar). It was really good......all the boys love it. It's easy to do, and comes out great every time. With the shoulder, the fat is easily seperated and the rest of the meat is lean.

I remain the same on the scale.....that stray pound is holding steady.....UGH!

Beth

Jeanne....sorry to hear you were sick. You'll be just fine for the 1/2. I agree with Amy that you have a good base and that will get you through. Have a wonderful time at your dinner party!
Amy....congrats on the weight loss. I'm starting to see a little arm definition as well. Are you using just one level on the the Jillian DVD? I've mostly been doing #1, but I'm using heavier weights and then occasionally I boost up to the 2nd workout---I've been apprehensive about trying the 3rd one:eek: . When do you leave for NC? Someone posted on another thread to fill up paper cups with water and freeze them, then use those to rub on sore shins. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a good option.
Vic...awesome pics---how close were you?
Jeff....way to get the mileage in.
Beth...the pot roast sounds yummy!
Everybody else...:wave::wave::wave:
I missed my walk yesterday, LTO! I'm thinking about doubling up today with my 6 miles and then a walk in the evening with the dog, but it's really cold! My DH and the 3 youngest are heading to the lake this weekend. My DS15 has an awards banquet on Sat. and a 1/2 marathon on Sunday so we're staying home. Take care guys and have a great day!

Beth: Thanks for the recipe. I actually do something similar with a pork butt roast. After the fat separates, I discard it and shred the remaining meat with my own connoction of barbecue sauce, a little vinegar, hot sauce and some sugar free pancake syrup! Then I serve it on those great potato rolls. Super easy and everyone loves it. What i'm really looking for is a crockpot recipe for one of those lean pork loins. I always buy them when they're on sale and never know how to prepare it.

Good morning Meaners!

TGIF!!!

Was able to get in 3 last night. Scheduled for 9 on Sunday and then mini-taper for the Seaside 1/2 on 03/01.

It sure looked as though Jr. was driving with his head up his backside. He had pit issues during the Bud Shootout, but was ok during his 150. I listened to his radio on Saturday and he didn't have any pit issues then. Not sure what happened on Sunday.

As far as Vickers, he deserves everything he gets. I watched him drive through Mike Bliss during the Winston Open a few years ago at Charlotte to win that race, and spin Jr. and Jimmie Johnson at Talladega in 06. He has nothing to complain about. I do hate it for the ones taken out. But, they've all made mistakes out there.

I'd like to see NASCAR outlaw blocking on the super speedways. Not sure how they would enforce it though.

JMHO

:)

Thanks for compliments on the photos.

I use a Canon digital SLR with a 55-200mm lens. It lets me get up close and personal from the stands. :)

Everyone - Keep up the great training!

Some quick catch-ups, for reasons below!

Beth: Thanks for checking in on me on 'Ohana. I needed it! Is your working full-time a permanent gig, just for next week, or something in between? Great job with the planning ahead and getting in your WOs. The double-dipping is supposed to be good for lean meanness, too! That stray pound is lonely and hiding--it's got to come out and off soon!

Julie: What do I have to do to get you to make ME brownies? Start hoarding boxes of Lucky Charms and trading them to you for brownies? :rotfl2: And doesn't the Wii count as XT (at least Wii Fit)?

Cindy: You can run Pgh all year round, a few days excepting. It seems to me that we get snow regularly in the winter, 3-4" at time, but then it alternates with days of warm weather and rain. So the roads tend to be clear and most days wet, not icy. Not that I like rainy weather, but it's better than bitter cold---like you get. :worship: I'm SO glad you're going to give the race a chance and that you have a reasonable strategy planned out. I'll still cross my fingers and send PD in hopes that you sub-4, but I know you're not feeling anywhere close to 110%.

Maria: I think Wii Bowling sounds like the way to go--I failed my bowling class as an undergrad. (True story. Of course, I never went to class.....:rolleyes1 I did, however, ace my ballroom dancing class.) You've been doing great with getting your miles in regularly. Tweensville? Sounds like a remote village in a horror story! :scared1:

Mike: Good job listening to your doctor's order and taking it easy. And the Dewar's is just what this doctor (I don't play one on TV, just in my mind) ordered! What's the prognosis on the knee?

Tracey: Oh, I see how it is in your house. DS just decides to run a 1/2, ever so casually. Oh, to be young and athletically gifted. I do hope you get to do the 1/2 in January, although the budget thing is tough! (Our household empathizes with yours.) That 2 pounds will come off--and it's probably headed my way! So it's you and DS15 this weekend? Great bonding time!

Amy: Congrats on your 2 pounds. (Why do they seem to come in pairs?) And on the arm-muscle definition! Have you been icing your shins and doing exercises--I'm subject to splints and do both even when the shins feel fine. You and Delena have a great time in NC!

Jeanne: Great to have you back here! Maybe if the wagon slows down for you it'll pick me up, too! If anyone can wing the half, it's you!

Vic: Great pictures, as always, and it's not just the camera. I think the photographer has some not-so-hidden talents! So glad you had the opportunity to take them! Thanks for your insight into the Jr.-Vickers crash. It got a lot of press, and I wondered what fans thought.

Aloha Jeff: I'm not so sure I'm getting in my reps and laps as I am my naps and laughs. Close enough, right?

As for me: With apologies to 'Ohana cousins, as Maria said about her post! Unfortuntely, I pulled a back muscle Wednesday night that's thrown my WO schedule off. I tried walking today, slow, and it's painful. I'm going to try a modified WO tomorrow at the gym. I told DOOD I was upset, not only because it hurts, but because I didn't pull the muscle doing anything athletic. I literally bent down to pick up something and immediately felt pain? :confused3 So I don't even get bragging rights for the injury. And that makes me cranky. Plus, it's been uncomfortable to sit with my computer, so limited posting.

Also in the cranky department, guess who DOESN'T get to go to her all-day Oscar fest? I'd asked DOOD to pick up the tickets last week--his commute is near the theater--and he put it off until yesterday. They're all sold out. He feels horrible, of course, because he'd told me it was all taken care of & then had to recant. I'm trying to look at it as all for the best, what with my back, but I'm still a little peeved. On the bright side, it's so seldom that DOOD fraks up I figure I should bank this one for the next time I pull a block-headed stunt. I figure that'll be in about 48 hours or so. :rotfl2:

:stitch2: Monday Mixers w/ Team 'Ohana :stitch2:

I thought I'd let the Lean Meaners know that Team 'Ohana is inviting their WISH family to come visit its thread on Mondays. We thought this would be a good way for people on the teams/threads to get to know other WISHers better. Plus, 'Ohana like to think we know how to throw a party and we always like new guests! The drinks are free, if virtual, and no one will tell you when you've had enough. :upsidedow

I'll post a reminder on Monday, with a loose question/discussion topic to get the conversations going. There's no need to stick to the topic, of course, as it's really your sparking, non-alcoholic but still intoxicating presence that is requested. So, if you have a little time for socializing with your cousins, please stop by 'Ohana on Monday! :goodvibes

Debra: Oh, I hope it was not my 'jack-slap' that caused the back pain!?! Kidding aside, that's how my back pain usually goes......doing basically nothing, then shooting pain. I hope rest will help, but good drugs are always a help! My working full time is to cover Nancy's leave. I will work full time till she is back and healthy. She will probably come back part time, so I will cover for her till she is back to full time.

So, my stray pound is gone for now......but only after stomach issues last night. Nausea, and 1 episode of 'loosing my lunch'......don't know why, but I am fine today. So, that stray pound is probably not gone for good...ugh!

Jeanne: Those lean pork roasts......I usually get the flavored ones, put it in the crockpot on low for 4 hours. Can't cook them all day......they dry out. Try putting them in frozen, or adding some broth if fresh to keep it moist.

Beth

With the sharing of recipes.....I made a very good veggie dish last night (even though I was sick and didn't eat it!) My dh said it was the best butternut squash he's had. It's from the Wegman's site.
