Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Hi Everyone,

Just hanging out before the race starts. I thought I'd like a 10 AM start, but it just gives me more time to fret before the start. The weather forecast is for 40 degrees and lots of rain. Not really looking forward to running in the rain, but it hasn't started yet, so maybe it will hold off for most of it. I posted a pre-race report on another thread.

I can't get a link to work right now, but it's on the race report thread.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Cindy

12 miles; 1:45:14. Whew, I was dusted by two guys aged 58 and 63. Oh, did I mention their both Boston qualifiers?

Just a quick post to say I ran 4:09 today. Not quite what I hoped for, but it was a pretty good race anyway. I never felt great, but then I was never completely miserable either. That for me is a big plus. (I'm wondering if I could have pushed a bit harder since I wasn't miserable, but I'm not sure I had it in me today.) The bad weather held off for the first half, then it misted for an hour, then a light rain for the last hour. It was a bit windy in parts, but occasionally the wind was at our backs too. I was on pace thru 18 miles, but then just started slowing down. I never actually crashed, my slowest mile was 10:43, and there was just one of them (mile 25) but then I could feel the finish line pulling me and I kept thinking about a hot cup of coffee and a dry pair of socks and I really pushed the last mile. I crossed the finish line in the vertical position, so that's a plus too. I'll post more tomorrow along with some pics my DH took.

Have a good night everyone,
Cind

:stitch2: Monday Mixers w/ Team 'Ohana :stitch2:

I thought I'd let the Lean Meaners know that Team 'Ohana is inviting their WISH family to come visit its thread on Mondays. We thought this would be a good way for people on the teams/threads to get to know other WISHers better. Plus, 'Ohana like to think we know how to throw a party and we always like new guests! The drinks are free, if virtual, and no one will tell you when you've had enough. :upsidedow

I'll post a reminder on Monday, with a loose question/discussion topic to get the conversations going. There's no need to stick to the topic, of course, as it's really your sparking, non-alcoholic but still intoxicating presence that is requested. So, if you have a little time for socializing with your cousins, please stop by 'Ohana on Monday! :goodvibes

We invite you to visit Team 'Ohana for the Monday Mixer! Stop by anytime today (or anytime, really) and say hi. The mixer starts here on the 'Ohana thread.

Our loose topic for 'Ohana's first Monday Mixer is "What song made you laugh out loud the last time you heard it?"

Of course, you don't need to stick with that prompt. You can talk about the last thing that made you laugh out loud, period. Or the Oscars, Nascar, Pixar. Or the meaning of life, the universe and everything. (Although we over at 'Ohana already know the answer is 42. You'll learn to love our geekdom. :rolleyes1)

Happy Monday!
Deb...ouch about your back! Hopefully, the pain is easing up a bit by now. Sorry to hear about the Oscar fest. I know you really look forward to it, and DOOD, being the romantic type, I bet he feels horrible.
Beth...the squash sounds yummy...I'll have to give it a try.
Jeff...awesome time!
Vic...7 miles is 7 miles (and that's a long way to move forward on 2 feet)!
Cindy...I know 4:09 is not what you hoped for, but it's an amazing time! I'm glad you finished feeling ok and that you were still on your feet...my heart ached for you the last time. You're AMAZING!

I had a wonderful weekend with my oldest son. He was honored at the local Track Club banquet and we had a nice time. We headed over to my girlfriend's and played the Wii! That is sooooo much fun. Yesterday, he ran a 1/2 marathon....new pr for him at 1:21:52! He was happy! I got in my 5 miler and a quick nap before the other 3 kids got back with DH and the house was loud and rowdy again! Have a great day all!

So, I can report success today! That stray pound is gone, and an additional one to boot! Yippee! So, it's actually a total of 10 pounds down since the New Year! I am happy (((((for now)))))). I still would like 18 more gone eventually.

I had a hard day on Saturday....felt like I was starving, but really I think I was bored. First day in a long time, that I didn't have a million things to do (actually could have cleaned my house, but didn't). So, there was many trips to the kitchen, and not much willpower! Worked out ok, since I did my 10 miler yesterday and burned it off!

Has anyone tried the new South Beach Smore's bars yet? OMG! Are they good, or what????? My ds#1 and I LOVE them! A little too many carbs for me, but who's counting??????:confused3 :lovestruc

Big Vic: Ok, so JR admitted to fault with last weeks accident, but I still think that Vickers played a big factor in it. I am really unhappy that he lost his engine, but he handled himself with maturity in the after-interview. I wish Kyle Bush would have lost his engine.......but that is neither here nor there......

So, I guess you figured out that I was watching the NASCAR race instead of the Oscars...... A girl's gotta do, what a girl's gotta do!

Beth

Hello Lean Meaners!

Debra - I'll make you brownies anytime. You don't even have to bribe me with Lucky Charms (although it couldn't hurt :rotfl: ). As for the Wii, I'm sure Wii Fit would count as XT, but Mario Super Galaxy or Kung Fu Panda? Not so much. How is your back?

Cindy - I'm sorry that your time wasn't what you had hoped for (if it's any consolation, your time is AMAZING to me:worship: ). I'm glad that you crossed the finish line vertically! I can't wait to read more about the race.

Tracey - It sounds like you had a nice weekend with your DS, and congrats to him on his new PR :thumbsup2 - he is fast!

Beth - Congrats on the weight loss!:cheer2:

My week is not off to a great start. I was supposed to run 3 miles this morning. I headed out the door at 5:00 AM to find that the sidewalks were a sheet of ice. So I went back inside. DH was in the living room doing yoga. I should have joined him. Instead, I went back to bed. :sad2:

Hello Lean Meaners! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I've been working out and keeping busy. Had a chat with my PT last week and he said he felt I was leaning out. Yay! But he told me to stay off the scale - that I should be only weighing in once every two weeks. I know it's easy to get too focused on the scale but to be honest, I feel a little lost not being able to weigh in every few days. :confused3

Cindy - Fantastic time! You are one speedy runner :) I can't wait to see the pictures!

Beth - Congrats on your fantastic weight loss!! :cheer2:

Tracey - Congrats to your DS! You must be so proud!!

Vic - Cool pics!!

Julie - Sidewalks here are icy too! The city hasn't done a good job of salting and sanding. :sad2: 5:00 AM is pretty early .. I would have gone back to sleep too.

Debra - Hope your back is feeling better! If it makes you feel any better, the last time I pulled my back muscle - I was leaning over to paint my toes. I knew there was a reason to go for a pedicure!!

Have a great day everyone! I'm off for my weekly training session tonight.

Beth: I think I'm going to try your squash recipe for myself. Yummers. The garlic sold me. Congratulations on the stray pound scramming. It needed to go. I do think your ten miler burned off the Saturday munchies. I'd say I can't believe you didn't watch the Oscars in favor of Nascar, but.... :rotfl2:

Jeff: Woo hoo for your run, and for the humility we ALL feel running with (in my case on the same course as) BQs.

Cindy: I know that's not the race you wanted, but you finished vertical--and strong, I'm sure--and that was soooo much more than you thought you'd be able to do, what, a week ago? Congratulations!

Tracey: Great weekend with your son. Holey Schmoley, he's speedy! No wonder he got honored at the Track Banquet. (Yep, I plugged it into Cool Running's Pace Calculator and about fainted.) But I haven't forgotten about you--great job on your 5 miler, too, as well as Wii fun.

And thanks for the thoughts on the Oscars and DOOD. He did feel terrible, and it made for a tense weekend strangely enough. (He felt worse about it than I did, but we couldn't exactly ignore the fact is was Oscar weekend, KWIM? And the fact I didn't make a big deal out of it somehow made it worse....Maybe it's because I would have a temper tantrum if it had been something *I* had done. :rotfl: )

Julie: It's much better that you didn't run outside on icy streets. Better that than a slip and fall. Of course, I can't think of anything for the yoga, except a warm bed is especially decadent after you've left it. Mmmm.

Vicky: I know exactly what you mean about feeling lost without weighing in on the scale. Your PT is probably right, and is watching out for you, but I'd find it hard not to sneak a peek. Sadly, your back story DOES make me feel better about my injury. At least I'm not alone in hurting myself without doing anything with bragging rights. (It helps me with my delusion that I'm not really a klutz.) Btw, I hope you congratulate yourself with the praise your PT gave you--that leaning out phrase is pretty high compliments, I think.

Vic: Hey, how's it going? Bet you're another one who chose Nascar over Oscar!

As for me: The back is better, and I'm back to working out with a vengeance! Nothing like a little pain to keep me on the straight and narrow when it comes to XT. To that end, I've worked out hard today at the gym and have dusted off my Sparkpeople account. I've taken the pills today (including cold medicine--bleh!) and will be adding a nighttime Pilates WO to today's session. AND I'm now officially stalking my sneaky poundage. It's no longer going to sneak up on me. I'm sneaking up on it. Harumph!

Good Morning Everyone,

Beth and Vic - Ugh. This season is not starting out very good, but Jr showed why he's my guy. Honesty. I didn't care who his Daddy was I only cared that he was just an honest dude.

Debra - Sorry I missed your mixer yesterday. :rolleyes1 I've kind of been out of it with this sinus infection, but it's almost gone and I can start posting/bugging everyone again very soon. :rotfl:

AFM - My weight loss has stalled out and I'm at 199. Down from the 207-208 I entered into Marathon weekend with, but still. 8 miles running in a week will do that to you.

Need to try and catch up with the thread.....

Good morning Meaners! So, another Tuesday on the books. I have to say that I already miss my Nancy.....:guilty: It will be a long couple of months without her. I want to ask you all to say a little prayer for Nancy (PaDisneyFan) for her surgery tomorrow. I am praying it all goes well, and her pain is short lived.

Chris: I know about the stray poundage.....but you are doing a great job getting it off! :thumbsup2 Keep at it.......we all know how to do it, it's just getting the will, you know?

Debra: Yeah, for the back being better! :cool1: Nothing like back pain to cool the workout jets! Sometimes when mine is acting up, I don't know what to do. Weather it out, or rest. Sounds like you did the right thing! Sorry about the plans for last weekend......I know what that 'unspoken' thing is like. You don't know what to do or say to end it! :confused3 That comes from the fact that men and women are completely different in how we handle things like that......I know my dh would have been so mad at himself, but it would translate like he was mad at everyone else! :confused3 Never know how to handle it.......is it blown over yet?

Cindy: Great race! I know that it isn't 100% what you wanted, but you got it done in good fashion! Don't worry, there is always next time to 'get'r' done!

Tracey: Your ds has impressed all of us!!! :worship: :cool1: :worship: Give a big kiss for me!!!! (well, maybe not a kiss.....how about a slap on the butt for job well done!)

Vic: Yeah, our NASCAR season hasn't started like we wanted......but don't worry, we have alot of time yet!

So, yesterday was my Pilates day........but with dh out of town, and 2 kidlets at hand, I couldn't make my class. So, I did the next best thing with my Bender Ball pilates DVD, and abd DVD. Felt like a decent workout, and I didn't leave the house!!! (since it was about 5 degrees out!:cold: )

And.......I got myself up early today to get 3 miles in on the TM before work. Something so HARD to do, but boy doesn't it make you feel good when it's done?????:yay: I really didn't want to get up, and almost didn't. It was nice and warm in my bed.....but, if I want the poundage to go away, I must accomadate my new full time schedule. I have to say I am glad I did it.....but I am already tired! :confused3

Beth

Mornin' friends....
My kidlets have one of those crazy late starts this morning, so it's 9:40 and they still have another hour here at home:scared: ! Send :pixiedust: that nothing gets broken because it appears to be a wrestlemania kind of day!
Beth...Ten pounds is soooooo amazing. Congrats! and I'm jealous! Looks like I'll be dusting off my Sparkpeople account with Deb. Prayers for Nancy....let us know how she's doing. WTG on getting on the TM early in the morn.
Julie...your story made me laugh. I would've gone back to bed, too. Those icy mornings make me feel that way.:)
Vicky...I'm not sure that I could weigh in only once every 2 weeks. I admit to being a slave to the scale. I went back to read your post again because I was wondering about the "leaning out"....I thought it was something you were doing wrong:confused3 :lmao: , but when I went back I realized it's a good thing:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: !
Deb...As bad as I feel for DOOD with for messing up with the tickets and I feel badly for you for missing the fest.....it does give you a bit of bargaining power doesn't it?;) I say milk it for all you can:lmao: . Glad to hear your back is feeling better. I'm going back to Sparkpeople, too. I've gotta get on this before 2lbs becomes 5, then 10..........!
Chris....WTG on that weight loss, that's fantastic. Now I'm jealous of you and Beth!
Thanks for all the congrats for DS! I'll pass them along. He gets the biggest smile on his face when I tell him what you all say. He has the highest dreams of being in the 2016 Olympics! He loves that you all "get it"! I told my mom what his time was and she said, "Aw, it took him over an hour. Was he okay with that?":lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Can you tell she's never been a runner (or very good at math for that matter:lmao: ?) We love her, we just have to laugh because she just doesn't get it. :) Take care everybody and have a great day!

Good morning Meaners!

Hoping your Tuesday is a good one.

3 miles on tap this evening.

Cindy – Congrats on your race! I can only dream of running a marathon in just over 4 hours.

Debra – It will ALWAYS be NASCAR over Oscar. WTG with the XT.

Tracey – Congrats to your DS, and WTG with the 5 miler!

Beth – Jr. confirmed why I like and respect him so much. He’s a straight shooter and honest. That’s ok in my book any day. Good thoughts on the way for Nancy.

Julie – Hope you were able to get your run in.

Vicky – Keep up with the training.

Chris – Jr. and his team will get their stuff together. Jr. is a class act.

To those I missed - Keep with with the great training!!

:)

What happened to everyone today? :lmao:

I got my 8 1/4 miles in, 1:15:56. Tradewinds going outward bound, and tailwinds on the way back.

Thursday I'll be running over on the windward side of the island. I have to zip out of work to the local running shop to pick up our Swamp Romp race packet and t-shirts.

Have a great Wednesday everyone.

Morning Lean Meaners! I did a new workout with my PT on Monday. We did plyometric exercises so lots of jumping around the gym. He says they'll help to give me that extra push to sprint across the finish line at races. Yay! Of course I'd just settle for an overall faster speed :)

Tomorrow, I'm back at the gym for a quick 1/2 session. I'm also looking for new running shoes. Does anyone have a favourite or preference for a stability shoe? I was running in an Asics Kayano but I *think* it's been causing my big toe joint pain.

Debra - Glad your back is feeling better! Yeah, I have the lamest injury stories. Like I'm always bumping into things and I bruise really easily. Heh! Remember your pills and pilates today!

Julie - Wow! That's a late start! I wish they had those when I was in high school :) Very cool to hear your son is going for 2016 Olympics!

Vic - I forgot to ask how you got that motion blur in your pictures? I'm just starting to take pictures on an SLR so everything is new to me.

Beth - I'll keep Nancy in my thoughts. Please keep us updated if you hear anything.

Jeff - Come over to Hakuna Matata! We're having an ice cream social today. I think the topic is your favourite race recovery foods and favourite WDW treat! The Swamp Romp sounds fun. Is it a trail run or something like the Muddy Buddy?

Have a great day everyone!

Hey Meaners!

Sorry I've been a little MIA. Way too much going on at work, and I couldn't very well miss my own Team Mixer! :goodvibes

It's been a good week so far -- 30 min on the bike Sun., 4 mi Mon, 3 mi + Yoga Tues., and 4 mi today.

I'm giving up treats for Lent -- sweets, chips, candy, fast and fried food. This should be interesting...

Vicky -- The jumping around sounds good. I am a big fan of Asics gel Nimbus. Like running on a cloud :cloud9:

Jeff -- The Swamp Romp looks like a ton of fun! pirate:

Vic -- Have a great 3-miler! :thumbsup2

Tracey -- You must be so proud of ds! I don't know how you do those "late starts". I would be insane

Beth -- I sympathize with your new full-time schedule. It is hard, but so worth it when your workout is done before your day gets going. I'm up at 5 am doing it too, so don't feel alone! I'm sending prayers and pixiedust: to Nancy.

Chris -- Be sure and come to the next Ohana Mixer, I know we'll be chattin' and laughin' :dance3:

Debra -- If anyone can sneak up on that poundage, it's you! :tiptoe: I'm glad your back is feeling better. Best of luck with all those workouts, you rock!

Julie -- How are you feeling? My ice is gone, so I hope you are able to get out if it ever warms up. :cold:

Cindy -- All things considered, you did have a great race! I am so impressed you did it! :worship:

 to Stacey, Connie, Wendy, and other Lean Mean Folk

Oh! And I am totally psyched because I booked the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal for our summer vacation! As dh said, as long as neither one of us gets laid off, it's a go! :scared1: DH is not about to go to Disney, but I did talk him into stopping at Downtown Disney on our way to Universal. For those of you going :confused3 , we fly into Orlando, drive over to Tampa to visit my SIL, and then go back to Orlando. I can't wait to try Aquatica! :beach:

Maria :upsidedow
