Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Hey Lean Meaners! I weighed myself today and I'm down 4 pounds! Yay! Ok, I'm sure a lot of that was from the cold but I'll take it anyway.

The games on the Wii Fit like soccer, boxing and hula hoop are a lot of fun! I have mixed feelings about the strength training and yoga exercises. You can only do one set before you have to go back out into the menu and select a different exercise. I wish the program would let you create a workout so you could do a group of them together. The board can also be used with other games like Raving Rabbids TV Party and Wii Ski so even if you get bored of the Wii Fit, you can still use it for other things. Oh, make sure you have enough room around your TV or can move things. I took my Wii Fit to a friend's house and it was difficult for him to do the exercises and watch the screen because of the way his living room was set up. It's also good for keeping track of your weight (if you don't like journaling - like me) :)

Beth - I'm about a 1 hour napper only because it takes me about 20-30 minutes to fall asleep. Unless I'm on a flight and then I try to sleep for the entire thing. WTG on the 7 miles!!

Cindy - I usually take my vitamins before I brush my teeth at night. Maybe if you try taking them before or after a meal or as soon as you wake up, it will eventually work itself into your routine?

Julie - I've said the same thing after every race this year but I keep coming back! I love the "I did it!" feeling at the end!

Debra - Hope you're feeling better soon! I do the same thing with my workouts sometimes. When it gets busy I try to squish everything in as quickly as I can or just cut corners (usually the warm up cool down). Have you ever tried the iced cup trick for treating shin splints? If you take a Dixie cup or any small paper cup, fill it partially with water, freeze it, then peel part of the cup to expose the ice - you take the ice, press it into the shin splint (yeah it hurts a little) and roll it up and down the affected area.

Chris - With so many pictures of you on the thread, I can't possibly miss you at the next meet!

Have a great night everyone!!

Congrats on the 4 pounds. That's a good tip with the Wii Fit about tracking your weight. I've avoided the thing for a while now because it just kept telling me I'm too heavy, etc. Made me feel pretty bad.

Sorry about all the pics.

Debra - Feel Better. I think we all get sold a bill of goods. :lmao: Hope your shin gets better as well!

Oh no Chris! I love all the pics ... actually that means I have no excuse not to come up and say hello next meet :)

You know the Wii Fit says the same thing about my DF. It ranks him as obese and plays a silly little song. He hates it too.

Quite the chatty group today.

Photos, post one, post all. For those who don't have an avatar picture of themselves, please do so, so we know who to look for at all future WISH meets and races. Ya'll know me and Chris, but show your face please.

Get well everyone with illnesses (I really don't think there is a cure for me).

I got in 8 1/4 miles after work. Slow, 1:14:59. Hmm, anyone have any suggestions? :lmao:

Oh yeah, our weather sucked today. Note, I had to put on a shirt today.

Morning Meaners! Nice to see such a chatty group here!

Jeff: What a change.....crummy weather? Sorry you had to put a shirt on.....such a shame :scared:

Chris: Love the pictures, even though you have snow in them. I am sick of snow!

Debra: Yeah for dh cooking dinner. I personally love grilled cheese!

Jeanne, Connie, Tracey, Stacie, Amy, Big Vic and the rest of the Lean Meaners....I hope everyone is goal setting and sticking to it!

AFM: I have logged many miles on the elliptical this week in the attempt to lose some of these pounds. Eating well too! I wish life was always like this! I am suffering with a migrane today, so there may be no workout today, but on the brighter side....my back feels better!!!:)

Beth

Good afternoon Meaners!!

TGIF!!! :thumbsup2

Not too much to report this week. Had a bit of an ear issue. No infection, but an ear ache none the less. The doc gave me some antibiotics just to be on the safe side. So, no stadium runs, but I did get in 7 on Sunday and 3 on Tuesday. May try for another 3 tonight after work.

I've also been preparing the Man Cave (NASCAR Shrine) for the start of the racing season. Of course, the Rolex 24 was last weekend, UFC 94 is on pay per view tomorrow night and the Super Bowl on Sunday. So, the Man Cave is seeing a lot of action. ;) :thumbsup2

To the sickies - Get well

To the hurties - Get well

To everyone - Keep up the great training, and eating!

Y'all take care.

:)

Hi Lean Meaners!

Beth - Thankfully, the Lucky Charms box is empty. I have no plans to buy another box any time soon. The temptation is just too great. How did your crock pot recipe turn out?

Cindy - Good luck with your training. When is your race? DH & I are thinking of doing the Run to Remember this spring. I'm still new to this whole racing thing (the WDW marathon was only my 2nd race ever), so I'm not sure what's out there for local races.

Debra - I'm sorry that you're not feeling well and sorry to hear about the shin splints. How was your grilled cheese sandwich? That's one of my favorite sandwiches. If Rob ever made me a sandwich and soup I would be shocked. That would be gourmet cooking to him. :rotfl:

Jeanne - :wave2:

Chris - Great pics. Now we know who to look for at the next WISH meet.

Vicky - Great job on the 4 pounds! :cool1:

I have still not been out for a run. We have so much snow and whenever it starts to melt, it gets really cold again and refreezes. :sad2: The sidewalks are like skating rinks around here. I've decided to do more yoga and maybe try my Pilates for Dummies DVD until it's safe to run again.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday Everyone!!!

Got in an 8 miler today on the treadmill. I think it was because I was watching 24, but the time went by pretty quickly. Can't wait to get back on the open roads, but looks like it might be a while. More snow coming. Grrr

Vic - Do you have a favorite Driver in NASCAR? I know, I know everyone does.

Take Care all!

WTG with the 8 miler! :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,

Beth: Thanks for the suggestion of the sugar-free day. I know these things, but sometimes you need someone else to point them out. Thanks. I plan to start a no sugar streak. I'm going to start tomorrow since it will be the first day of the week and the first day of the month. Psychologically that helps me. We don't have plans to go to a Superbowl party so I shouldn't have too many temptations. My son's bday was yesterday so I'm still eating bday cake today so hopefully by tomorrow it will be all gone. I'm glad the BL is working well for you.

Chris: Good job on the 8 miler. It really does help to have something compelling to watch. It's funny how easy it is to take something for granted. I too love the ocean and we go to the beach in RI for a week vacation every summer. It really struck me when you said you hadn't seen the ocean in 4 years. Hopefully it will happen soon. Great pictures, thanks for posting.

Julie: My race is 2/22. I'm hoping to get my 20 miler in on Monday. I see the forecast is for 40 degrees. I hope they're right. If you get the chance to run the James Joyce Ramble in Dedham in April you should. It's a lot of fun. It's a 10K I haven't run it in a number of years since I used to live in West Roxbury, but I thought it was a nicely run race. Check out coolrunning.com for more races.

Jeff: Sorry about the crummy weather. It looks like you're handling it OK. You're a trooper.

Vicky: Good job on the 4 lbs. Sorry you had to be sick to lose it, but I'd take it. The vitamins are right next to my bed for me to take them before I go to sleep I guess I just have to make it a habit.

Debra: I hear you about the false bill of goods. My first date with my DH was to see Phantom of the Opera, date #2 was to see Billy Joel and Elton John. I'm not sure we ever went anywhere after that. I married him anyway. I haven't regretted it yet. Grilled cheese and tom soup is my favorite. I hope the shin splints are better.

I've got to go do my chores now. Have a good day everyone.
Cindy

OMG Cindy, guess where I live - West Roxbury! My DH has run the James Joyce in the past. Last year, we were in WDW, so we missed it. I'll have to check the dates for this year to see if it will work. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll check out coolrunning.com as well.

It's supposed to be nice out (relatively speaking) on Monday. Good luck with your long run...and your race! :thumbsup2

Julie: Small world. My apartment was right on Spring St. which was a little trafficky, but my apartment was so nice and sunny with a nice porch off the back of the house, I loved it. I was only there for about a year and then I got married and we moved to an apartment in Belmont. I think I saw the Ramble is April 26th this year. Maybe all the ice and snow will be gone by then!!

Cindy

Cindy, I can spit to Spring St from my house! Well, maybe not literally :rotfl: , but I'm very close to it. It is a small world. Great, now I have that song stuck in my head.

Thanks for letting me know that date of the James Joyce race. We'll be in WDW then, so I'll miss out once again. Maybe in 2010...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARCIA!!!!!

party: :cake: :bday: :cake: party:

(sorry that I'm one day late!)

Good Morning, Lean Meaners!

Ok, it's actually afternoon where I am, but you get the sentiment!

I have ds's nasty cold, and it's been making my weekend not so fun. We had a tween sleepover Friday night (ds's birthday was Thurs.), and I was useless to my poor dh...but as long as he kept the food coming, they were fine. I cannot believe how much tween boys eat! I don't know how I'm going to make it through the teen years, at this rate. :faint: Beth -- I know you will believe this -- they ate 2 large pizzas, four large bags of chips/popcorn, an ice cream cake, bananas, clementines, a 1 lb. bag of licorice, drank a case of Pepsi, and that was just Friday night! Then they had two boxes of cereal, two boxes of poptarts, and that was before we got up! Then they had pancakes and bacon, and half gallons of orange juice and chocolate milk. I can't imagine what my grocery bill is going to look like in a few years...

I spent yesterday afternoon in bed, which was awesome. Today I'm a little more active, but I don't have any voice and my throat is like sandpaper. Tomorrow I have to have it all together and go to work. Wish me luck! pixiedust:

R U Ready for some football?! :woohoo: I know this is a Nascar crowd, but who doesn't enjoy a good Superbowl commercial? We have planned so this won't be an all-out foodarama -- We have cheese lasagna for dinner, veggies and dip and popcorn for snacks, and sugar-free jello and skinny cow ice cream sandwiches for a sweet treat. DH will also make a tray of nachos, just salsa on chips with lower-fat cheese.

Still nothing on the exercise front. Since I can't move much without setting off a sneezing fit, I'm going to have to wait a few more days. I'm ready to get going, though!

Marcia -- :bday: Belated!

Jeff -- We have plenty of snow, anytime you want to run in it...:wave2:

Julie & Cindy -- No Spring Street for me -- but I can look out my windows and see they haven't cleared a speck of snow from Suffolk Downs Racetrack...:scratchin

Beth, Vic & Chris -- Good luck to your Nascar favorite! When does your "season" start? I am so unfamiliar with it, I wouldn't know a Nascar driver if I tripped over one! :rotfl:

Debra, Tracey, Vicky, Jeanne, Stacie, Connie, AmyK -- I hope you are having an awesome weekend! :hyper:

It's Feb. 1st, and in my world that means a fresh start! Let's make February a super Lean Mean month! :cheer2:

Maria :upsidedow
