Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Afternoon Leaner Meaners!!!!!

Today I got in 4 miles on the treadmill and it stinks as it's the best weather we've had in a while here. Of course the roads are still ice/slush and the sidewalks well we are not even close to having those. :) Just glad to get some work in.

Marcia - Happy Birthday!!!!

Maria - Hope you feel better soon!! I'll be watching the game for the commercial and actually the game. :happytv: Hope it's a good one.

Vic and Beth - It's so close to firing those cars up. I'm Ready to get er Rollin.

Everyone else hope you are having a great Sunday! :wave2:

Happy Superbowl Sunday, enjoy the game everyone.

I went out for a 10 miler today. Good easy run.

Have a great week Lean Meaners!

Happy Monday, Lean Meaners.

Maria...I have learned that boys are bottomless pits....they just keep shoveling it in (half the time, I'm not sure they even taste it) and when you put them in a group, it's every man for himself:rotfl2: . Good for you for having healthier choices for SuperBowl. We had a group of friends over and well.....let's just say, my choices weren't nearly as healthy. It all started with the party ryes, honey baked ham, and chili cheese dip......:confused3
Vicky...congrats on the 4lbs and the tip for shin splints with the ice.
Chris....warm sunny beaches sound heavenly.
Julie.....:cheer2: for smaller jeans! I finally ventured outside for a run yesterday. With the sun out, there were only a few icy patches.
Beth...Wow..20 miles/3days on the elliptical!!!
Cindy...I hear you on the problem with sticking with the little things like taking a vitamin. I always struggle with drinking enough water. My friend just gave me a large bottle with a straw and as long as I fill it up twice a day then I'm on track. It's making it a bit easier.
Deb...count me in as getting a "false bill of goods". My DH danced with me all the time before we got married (well when we went out) now, he sits in the chair and acts like he has no clue what I'm talking about:confused3 . Luckily, he has many other wonderful traits. I love grilled cheese and tomato soup. Hope you're feeling better.
Jeff...8 1/4 miles in 1:14 would be fast for me....so no suggestions.
:bday:, belatedly, Marcia!
Vic...hope the ear is feeling better. Go, JR! I'm a sucker for his sweet southern accent.
Jeanne, Amy, Mike, and everybody else....
I got outside for 4 miles yesterday (mainly so I could eat). It was a pretty nice day and the sun is beginning to melt the snow! After eating alot of "junk food" yesterday, I'm ready to get back on track. I'm also thinking I need to get a race on my calendar to hold me more accountable. Time to wake the kidlets. Have a great day all!

Tracey: I got outside yesterday too for 6.5 miles! I love running outside, and I have missed it terribly.

Maria: My boys eat me out of food now, what am I going to do when they are teenagers? I love that they were fine as long as the food kept coming! Good thing too, since you were sick. I hope you are feeling better now! pixiedust:

Big Vic: I am hoping that Junior starts off with a bang in Daytona, and keeps it going till the end. He deserves a good year......I've had enough of Jimmie Johnson now! Hope the TM starts working again for you! pixiedust: PD for it!

Chris: I hear the motors starting already!!! :drive:

Debra: Hope you are feeling better! pixiedust:

AFM: I am happy to report 40 miles put in last week! And the loss of 3 pounds to confirm that I worked really hard for it! No way can I keep that up forever, but it was nice to have last week!

Hopefully there will be Pilates tonight, followed by ds #2 basketball game.

Beth

Hey, gang! A quick drive-by for me today. I'm trying to score a free room through Last Minute Travel for marathon weekend, and so my attention span here is pretty short.

Jeanne: Thank you for doing your 'Ohana homework! I'm sure it will help our new cousins get to know us all better. (And our visitors.) Either that, or we'll scare everyone away! :lmao:

Chris: It's great to put a (handsome) face with a name! You and Jeff makes a nice-looking couple. :rotfl2: And, yes, it's so true that we all get sold a bill of goods. DOOD thought I was kind and patient. Congrats on your 8 miler and then 4 miles! Do TM miles count double, or do they just feel that way?

Vicky: Woo hoo on your 4 pounds. That's fantastic news! Wii Fit and hula hoop. I never would have thought of that being possible. (Don't know why--I'm slow sometimes.) I hate to admit that I ever watch The View, but they had a segment on about that "obesity" rating and the Wii--the blonde women (Elizabeth?) said it would make children feel bad and less inclined to play games. I can see that. Thanks for the recommendation for my shins! I haven't done the Dixie ice cup, although I have an ice pack. I'm going to try that trick, though, to see whether a more direct (and colder) application makes a difference.

Jeff: So when are going to be able to see the shirtless you? We've seen your face. Now, how about some cheesecake? :thumbsup2

Beth: I love grilled cheese, too, especially with tomato soup. I'm just amused DOOD treated it as if he'd made me a gourmet meal.... (Julie, I see your DH has a lot in common with DOOD.) How's your migraine? Gone by now, I hope. :flower3: Congrats on the 40 miles and 3 pounds--that's fantastic!

Vic: I hope the antibiotics worked. I know how you look forward to those stairs. Not as much as Nascar, perhaps, but it's then what can compare, huh?

Julie: How's your sidewalk/ice skating rink these days? We had a warm front yesterday, and things got melty to the point of clearing some of the sidewalks. If that's not the case for you, I never mentioned it and instead asked you about your Pilates and yoga. For you and Cindy: There's a James Joyce race?! DOOD would so love that!

Cindy: Happy belated b-day to your son. I hope the birthday cake is gone now. My BIL doesn't eat sugar for breakfast as part of his overall diet. Says it helped with his energy level and stopped the blood sugar swings. He drinks some kind of (protein?) shake. And he minimizes refined sugar in his diet as well. I'll be interested in hearing what you do.

Happy birthday Marcia! :bday:

Maria: Wow, tween sleepover on Friday and moving right into the Superbowl. I guess your house was party central this weekend. Just hearing everything those tween boys consumed is enough to raise MY grocery bills. How did your Superbowl celebration go off?

Tracey: I think you should pat yourself on the back for getting those 4 miles in, regardless of your eating. (This weekend, all indulgences were practically mandatory...) Your Superbowl party sounds like it was a lot of fun. Do you have your eye on a particular race?

As for me: Oooh, a bang-up weekend here. Literally. DOOD & I were in minor car accident Saturday night. No injuries, the car is (mostly) drive-able, and so no police report. But it certainly upset our date-night plans, not to mention stressed us both out a bit. In the good news, I'm feeling much better. I ran on Saturday, and we skipped the gym on Sunday (didn't drive, home WOs), and I'm left with just a wee sore throat and a cough. Not bad at all. And, like I said, I'm trying to score one of those LMT rooms...that's occupying my thoughts right now. Better this hotel-room deal than the popcorn in my kitchen, I guess. :rotfl2:

Debra, you are the only person on the boards who could call the above post a "drive by"

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Debra, you are the only person on the boards who could call the above post a "drive by"

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Okay, you got me there. I MEANT for it to be a drive-by. But I'm really just hanging out on my computer and hoping for the LMT $1 window to open. It's realllllllly boring :faint: so I kind of kept typing responses. And poof! I'd gotten to everyone!

So I'm asking myself, why am I putting myself through this "Waiting for Godot" Internet torture? Oh, yeah. I'm trying to score cheap marathon weekend rooms. If I do--drinks are on me! :drinking1

P.S. Some folks on the Budget Board have been online for this deal for 16 hours! :crazy2:

Hi Everyone,

Debra: I hope you had luck with the free hotel room. I looked at the site, but realized I don't have the patience, time or luck. You can check out ramble.org for more info about the race, but it's quite unique. They have costumed actors reading selected James Joyce works at each mile. It's quite interesting.

Beth: Glad you got outside. It's such a treat right now. 40 miles is great especially when it means 3 lbs lost. Is that in addition to the 2 lbs from last week? Great!! Thanks again for the no-sugar suggestion. It's just what I needed.

Tracey: Glad you enjoyed all the tasty treats. What better reason to run? I know I can always eat more than I can run. Guess that's why I need WW.

Chris: Glad you at least got on the TM. Roads here are a mess too.

Jeff: Glad you had an easy time of the 10 miles.

Vic: Sorry to hear about the TM.

Maria: Hope you are feeling better soon. Sounds like you had some healthy snacks for the Superbowl. Good planning. I hope the first of February gave you a fresh start.

I did try a sugar free day yesterday which I think will help me in getting my eating under control again. I don't go crazy with the non-sugary treats nearly as much as with the sweets. I continued it today with the exception of the gatorade, gels, and sports beans I had on my LR. And my recovery chocolate milk. I'm not counting any of that since it was needed. I will start adding sugar back in as long as it's within my WW pts. I feel too deprived if I can't have a little something sweet.

I got outside today for my nearly 20 mile run. The temp was 28 when I started and got up to about 40 by the time I was finished. The sun was out for just a short while, but it was wonderful while it lasted. The roads are still a mess. Lots of ice spots and slush and now lots of freezing cold puddles as well. I splashed myself a couple times. At about 10 miles I slipped a little on some ice and tweaked my knee. It didn't hurt too much at first, but gradually started to bother me. I was trying to decide if I should tough it out or cut the run short to avoid any serious injury. At around 18 miles I decided I would be better off stopping so headed towards home and ended up with 19.17 miles. I've iced the knee a little. I'll try resting it a couple days and hopefully it will be OK. It stopped hurting once I stopped running so I think that's a good sign.

Have a great night everyone.
Cindy

Debra: Wow, your 'drive-by' wasn't a quick one was it???? ;) Sorry to hear date night got blown away with the accident, but I am very glad no one was hurt. I hope the car doesn't need a tow truck!

Cindy: Och for the knee. I hope things are ok giving it a rest, and good job getting most of the miles in though! Yeah for the low sugar day.....nice jump start!

So, I got myself a new food diary over the weekend.....so I was tracking my food today for the first time in a LONG time. Wow, I ate to much! I hit 1800 cal for the day! I think it should be something like 1400 calories! I need the tracking thing for awhile I think!

Got an hour of Pilates in with Nancy.....always glad to be able to do that class. Great core work, but I miss the cardio for the day.....which worked out ok for today, since my legs were really tired and sore today!

Beth

Deb,

Please tell me you're not offering "body" shots.:lmao: Pixie dust pixiedust: for your car, glad you and Dood are okay.

Okay, if I gotta, I gotta. (Please, nobody lick their computer screen).

Hi all you Lean Meaners out there.

Hello Lean Meaners!

Maria - How is your cold? I hope you're feeling better. I can't believe how much your DS & his friends ate! Actually, I hope my DS eats like that someday. We pretty much have to bribe him to eat (I wish I had his problem and his metabolism :lmao: ). As far as Nascar drivers go, I'm right there with you. I wouldn't know one if I tripped over one.

Tracey - Hooray for you and your 4 miles! :cheer2: Is your snow still melting?

Beth - Congrats on the 3 lbs lost. :cool1: I hope to follow in your footsteps. I am happy to report that I have been Lucky Charms-free for one week and counting, so hopefully that will help the scale to start moving down for me.

Debra - Enjoy your clear sidewalks. We don't have any here and it's snowing again. 3-6 inches today. :sad2: I might just start running in circles in my living room  , just to get running again. You asked about the James Joyce Ramble. It's supposed to be a lot of fun. There are people dressed in period costumes reading from Joyce all along the route. I really hope to do it in 2010, since we won't be in WDW that April. did you have any luck with the $1 hotel rooms? I tried, but gave up.

Cindy - I hope that your knee is ok. pixiedust: It can be so tricky running outside this time of year.

I finally got out for two short runs on Sunday & Monday. Now it's snowing again. Is there a pulling-your-hair-out smilie? I could really use one right about now. I did some yoga this morning, so at least that's something.

Quick Drive by-

Got outside last night for 4 miles. I was pumped. I was freezing, but I was pumped. :rotfl2:

Jeff - GRRRRR

Nice job on the workouts everyone.

Hey everyone! I went for my weekly training session yesterday. I had a different trainer because my PT was off sick. To change things up a little, we did some boxing! Lots of fun and it made the time fly by! Makes me think about adding a boxing session into my routine!

Debra - Glad you and DOOD are okay! Good luck with the LMT room :)

Beth - Congrats on the 3 pound loss!! That's awesome!

Cindy - Hope your knee is okay. We had a bit of snow last night and everything is covered. It was a tricky walk this morning because I couldn't see the ice. I'm trying the sugar free thing again too - mostly on the weekdays. Weekends are harder.

Chris/Julie - Glad to hear you guys were able to get outside and run! WTG!

Have a great day everyone!

Today I drove over to the windward side to run with Guru Les near his home. First time in 2 years running with him, I went to his neighborhood.

8 miles 1 hour 17 minutes. 4 miles downhill outward bound, 4 miles uphill on the return.

Howdy Lean Mean Brigade.

Beth....I'm tracking food again and it's making me crabby, but it's neccessary. Yesterday, I ate 3 M&M's and then realized that I needed to go write them down:guilty: ...then again, that's the exact reason why I need to write it all down.
Deb...I'm looking at the Go!St. Louis 1/2 in April. I need to send in registration by mid-Feb. in order to get my name on my bib. So, I've got a few more days to think. Once spring starts there will be lots of 5k's available. My surgery was pushed off so I can get Girls on the Run in for the spring session and wait for summer break so my other kids will be home to help with DS3. I'm happy to hear that the car accident was not really bad, but I know it was scary just the same. Glad to hear you're both ok.
Cindy...hope the knee is feeling better. This crazy weather does not make for the safest running conditions. Take care.
Julie...yep, the snow is still melting, but it's so cold here that it's not melting fast. Now, it just looks brown and icky. Congratulations on staying away from the Lucky Charms and have you taken to running around your living room yet?;)
Chris....4 miles, pumped, and feezing, huh? Sounds like a great combo!
Jeff...cheesecake and beautiful weather....what will you tease us with next?
Vicky...the boxing sounds like fun....we have a bag in the basement for the boys to take out their aggression (they usually take it out on the younger brother). Maybe I should give it a go down there.

My girlfriend called me last night to tell me that someone from her kids swim team lost 160 lbs through running. That is so amazing. The gal told her that she's running 45 miles per week. Which leads me to ask....how many miles do you average per week? I seem to average about 20-25, but I also do some strength training, some walking, and a DVD or 2. Yesterday, I got 6 miles in on the TM and today is Jillian's shred and an easy walk or run of 3 miles on the TM. I'm with Beth and I miss running outside (luckily I got the 1 day in this weekend). Have a great day all and stay strong.

Tracey: I can't seem to run more than 3 days a week so I have to say my average is 20 to 30 miles. When training for a marathon it may get up closer to 35 miles. I'm hoping to get a 4th run in more consistently once the weather gets nicer.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Hey Meaners! Another day on the wagon.......it's getting to be a bumpy ride! I am doing well tracking, eating well, and exercising and I went UP 2 pounds today. WTH????? I am bummed. I know the drill.....keep doing what I am doing and don't get discouraged.....but I refrained from eating last night when I was hungry, to see the scale number go DOWN not UP! UGH!!!

Well, enough of that..... this weeks challenge in the BL point race is making sure to get 2 dairy servings in a day. This has been quite a challenge for me. I have tried the Greek yogurt, and happy to say I like it! I eat the regular Greek yogurt and mix in a little bit of berries with it. That is a success story for the points race!

Tracey: Yeah, I dream on about running outside! Makes it so much more enjoyable. By the time it warms up though, it will probably turn instantly HOT! :confused3 (I am never happy, am I?)

Cindy: I am averaging 25 miles a week with running and elliptical. I am pretty happy with that. I am working on building on it though.

Jeff: What's with the cheesecake......you're killing me! Remember, we are supposed to be wagon riding!!!! :scared:

Well, Nancy DRUGGED me to Pump class last night......ugh.......it just about killed me. The class was tough, and I hadn't been there in a really LONG time.....hence the 'punishment' inflicted on me by the instructor! Nancy was nice enough to bring the "Stick" in today to rub the aching, sore muscles that used to be my legs........thanks Nancy! :flower3:

Jeanne: I love our Nancy, but enough with the exercise Nazi!!! She tells me it's for my own good.......I guess she's right!

Beth

Beth: I hear you loud and clear regarding Nancy. I saw her in action firsthand when we cruised together. I would do 30 minutes on the elyptical, pat myself on the back and then grab a plate of chicken fingers. Nancy would do 90 minutes on the elyptical, a Pilates class and then eat a salad. Good grief, doesn't sound like vacation to me! Sorry about the 2 pound gain.......I know it's so frustrating. Maybe it's just hormones....or salt.....or both. Stick with it and you might have a big drop all at once.
Today there was a woman in my spin class who lost almost 150 pounds in less than 2 years through the help of bypass surgery. She went from a size 24 to 4!!!!! I remember her from my water aerobics class a few years ago. I thought she was in her mid-fifties. Now with the weight loss you can see the structure of her face and she looks like she's only in her forties. There's alot of loose skin though. I'm sure if she had that removed she'd be a size 0! It never ceases to amaze (and frustrate) me that some people can lose so much so quickly and I fight with all my might to lose a single pound. :sad2:

I typically don't do alot of mileage during the week in terms of running/walking unless I'm specifically training for something and then I try to follow John Binghams's plan. I think the more experience you have, the more you can deviate from following plans to the letter. Another factor would be your goals. If you constantly want to PR then you probably will be more rigid about getting the required miles in religiously. I just want to finish without having to battle the sweepers. For the Princess half, I will do 4 miles this weekend, then 6, then 8 and finally 10. Ideally, I will have 2 very fast 2.5 milers during the week for speed. But sometimes......OK often.....those don't happen. Too much walking is very hard on my feet, so I work out everyday but it's mostly cross-training. For me, it's a good plan because it keeps things interesting and still builds endurance and strength.

Debra: so sorry about the fender-bender! :grouphug: I'm just glad that you and DOOD are doing fine.

Now, Debra, here's a real drive-by...

I just read the last page of posts... I know, I know... I gotta make more time for my friends! For the last 2-3 weeks I've been helping my daughter put together her proposal letter for her graduation project (a new requirement in our school system). Basically she has to do research, a project/product, a presentation, and a paper on a "topic of interest" -- It sounded so easy till I read the fine print! She has to have a mentor and a subject matter expert both outside the school system (neither of whom can be a relative), and her paper topic has to be socially relevant and have a pro-and-con position, etc., etc., etc. And the "plan" for all this stuff has to go into the proposal letter. Whew! So, no training or racing for me in January since the marathon -- and probably no races in February.

And I still have another daughter to help with her letter -- That whole twin thing!

I'm still on for the Princess Half though! And I am coming up to my "inspirational" doctor's appointment (because I always panic when it's time to go in and get the blood pressure and blood sugar checked).

So I pledge to check in three times this week (today/Saturday/Sunday) -- and if I can drive by three times a week, maybe I can also READ and encourage others as well. Gotta start somewhere!

Jeff: What's with the cheesecake......you're killing me! Remember, we are supposed to be wagon riding!!!! :scared:

Beth

Beth, a few posts back, Deb asked to see some cheesecake. So I posted a picture for her. :lmao:
