Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Jeanne - Congratulations on winning last week's challenge! 2 pounds is great! :cool1:

Cindy - Good luck on your tri. And have a great vacation. I love the casual way you say "I'm running a 10 mile race while we're on vacation!" :rotfl: Most people don't consider that part of a vacation.

Vicky - I'm very envious that you can actually give up refined sugar. I am definitely not a good example. Probably explains why I've never had an easy time losing weight. :rolleyes1

Wendy
- Hooray! Hooray! In case I don't get a chance to tell you in person tomorrow, have a wonderful time on the bike ride. It sounds like a great time!

Beth
- Like Debra said, maintaining is good. It's not a gain, and that in itself is a victory!

Debra - If I had to spend extended amounts of time with DH... :scared1: Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with waiting until after Baltimore to start an "official" Goofy plan. I'm waiting until after Richmond, and it's a month later than Baltimore. I'm also not surprised that you were disappointed by Harry Potter - although I enjoyed it, it was more because of what it was than because it was actually a good movie, if that makes any sense. It certainly may be the weakest of the franchise so far, but for those of us who only see one movie in the theatre each year, it was fairly entertaining! :lmao:

AFM - When I weighed Wednesday, I'd lost 2 pounds since I started a couple of weeks ago. I was thrilled, since that put me right on track. Then... at the movie I killed an entire bag of popcorn by myself popcorn::, and last night was our anniversary so I had dinner, cheesecake, and half a bottle of wine, plus skipped the run I was supposed to do. I refused to get on the scale this morning. Other than that, I did reasonably well! And like Wendy, I'm doing 10 miles tomorrow with the Galloway group, so I'm hoping to burn off at least the popcorn...

Good Morning Lean Mean Brigade!

Whew! After an odd week of some exercise, not much TM and eating cautiously and with abandon, I'm down 2.0. Today is the day the TM repairperson comes back. I am now hoping strongly for an actual repair this time, so I can use the TM. I had two great 5M walks on the beach, but I know I get a better workout on the TM.

Jackie -- Happy Anniversary! How many years is this? Congratulations on celebrating your marriage, I think cheesecake should always be involved! party: And you are lurking because :confused3 You know and love some of us, we're your cousins! C'mon, you know you want to post here!

Beth -- I don't know how you work, workout, and keep track of everything, including this BL Challenge! You are a Superwoman! ::yes:: I know you are going to have a blast in Chicago. Other than RnR, tell us about your plans!

Debra -- It is odd when you work with your dh. Dennis and I met at work. I used to attend his department meetings -- his job was to buy real estate so the City could knock down the buildings and redevelop the property, mine was to preserve the historic buildings. Trust me, it's easier if you are working towards the same goal rather than at cross purposes...:rolleyes1

Wendy -- I'm with you. I never thought I'd be striving for these numbers, but what can you do? You can't go back, so you just have to keep moving forward. :cool1: I am amazed you write your weight so dh can see. I am too embarrassed, I guess I like to pretend he doesn't know how much I weigh :rolleyes1

Vicky -- I have 5, 8 and 10 lb weights, but no medicine ball. I used to do weights while I watched tv, I'm not sure why I stopped :confused3 I'm going to pick that up again, thanks for the reminder! :thumbsup2

Cindy -- A Tri and packing for vacay?! You are one busy woman, and I know you are going to kick it in the Tri!

Jeanne -- Um, I run at 14:00. You are killing it! :yay:

Sarah -- It is hard to pull it all together. I hope this weekend gives you time to plan and organize :goodvibes

Julie -- So psyched you are coming to Marathon weekend! [I hope you were able to get out this week with the sun! :)

Amy -- Enjoy Vermont. Have some cheese and Ben & Jerry's for me! popcorn::

Everyone look forward to a Lean, Mean weekend. Let's make a plan and hit the ground running!

Maria :upsidedow

210!.....another pound lost!

Points were 41 (plus an extra 5 for tracking, right?) I guess that makes it 46 total.
With this morning's walk I just finished week 5 of my 20 week training program.......so far, so good! :cool1: Today was 9 miles at an average 14:16 pace (walking only, no running) What was REALLY impressive - and both Jackie and Wendy will truly appreciate this - was the fact that my dear husband finished just half a minute behind me for an average pace of 14:19!!!!!! :worship: He's the REAL hero!

That's it for now.....off to check out places for a wedding reception.

Ooops, forgot to wish Jackie and Bill a ........

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!!

No weight loss this week. 24 points.

I'm getting ready to head out to my race. I'll post more later.

I gotta get back to comment on the weight losses and pace gains going on in this group later -- You guys ROCK!!! (Especially John, Jeanne -- Give him a big ole high five from me!!!) -- but for now...

Forgive me, but rather than post essentially the same info on multiple threads, I'm going to point you to my "race" (not really, just a participatory event) report on the Bull Moon Ride (17mi at night!) here:

Bull Moon Ride for Habitat for Humanity of Durham NC

Enjoy! I should have mentioned I did this ride in the evening after completing my 10mi walk with the Galloway group in the morning -- of course, there was a pool and a lot of hours rest between the two events! ;)

So today, I'm resting!

Jeanne and Sarah, congrats on the losses!

Happy belated anniversary to Jackie and Bill -- hope it was a fun celebration!

Thanks again to Beth for keeping us all informed and nspired -- as well as for the task of crunching so many numbers weekly. I couldn't keep up with my own losses if I didn't write them all down -- let alone track a bunch of folks!

Sunday night, but I gotta work. Good luck to all the rest of the Leaner Meaners as we finish off the biggest loser challenge.

Just a quick post to say my Tri was a blast. I finished 16th out of 41 in my age group. I was so proud of myself during the swim. I kept my face in the water a lot. Major victory for me there. Off to my vaca now. Hope to check in from the beach.

Have a great week everyone.
Cindy

Hey Lean Meaners! Hope everyone has been having a great weekend! Just a quick drive by for me tonight....

Cindy - Congrats on your tri! 16 out of 41 is awesome! I hope I can place as high as you did :) Fantastic!! Enjoy your beach vacation!

Sarah - WTG on your 3.5 loss!! Woo-hoo!! Hope you had a good time at your mom's!

Wendy - WTG on your bike ride! And then you did a 10 mile walk on the same day? You rock! Don't work too hard tonight ;)

Jeanne - WTG on losing another pound! Gotta love when the numbers keep getting smaller each week!

Maria - I do weights while watching TV too. For some reason, it doesn't feel like work when I'm watching TV. What did the TM repairman say this time? Was he able to fix it? Congrats on your 2 pound loss :)

Jackie - Happy anniversary to you and DH! How many years have you been together? What's a movie without popcorn? I definitely think it will get burned off with the 10 miler.

Beth - Lunges I can totally do! :yay: I'm still trying to keep up on doing the crunches as well. Thanks so much for setting up this challenge and keeping track of everything for us!

Debra - Yeah, I didn't get the name for the wood chopper either. I think the movement is probably similar to swinging an axe on a big tree instead of chopping logs for the fireplace. Bummer about Harry Potter - I've found I always enjoyed the books more than the movies. Mostly because the movies just seem to showcase certain aspects/things from the books rather than focusing on the story. Just me I suppose. How did you like G-Force? It's not a movie I would normally see but it looks so cute!

For me to cut out refined sugar, I tried to cut out snacking as much as I could a few weeks before. I also cut out the sweetners so no diet pop. I found that made me crave sweet things ... I also cut out coffee. I always associate coffee with donuts and other pasteries. I also cut out the rice, white bread and white pasta.

AFM - I got a new mattress yesterday and had a nice ache free sleep. Ahhh ... :upsidedow

Oh and as for weight loss this week. You know how I was worried that since I was eating out 90% of my meals (yeah almost all lunches and dinners and a few breakfasts) that I would gain. So I was totally dreading the weigh in. I thought I would be happy just to stay even but.... I lost 3.1 pounds!!!! I do wonder if it's a fluke. I guess I'll have to see what happens this week. Wish me luck though because this week will be more of the same followed by DF's birthday on the weekend. The eating out, in case anyone was wondering was more of a time factor. If I can grab a sub and eat it at 7PM instead of waiting until I come home and cook at 10PM, I'd rather eat earlier.

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Driving by this morning -- the TM repairman said the last TM repairman put on a disc backwards, and that was the entire problem. He apologized profusely more than once. It works great now! I have yet to use it -- I had great plans for this morning, but TOM hit with a veangance and running that early wasn't going to happen. I'm starting to wonder if it's divine intervention and I'm not meant to work out...Sigh.

Anyway, I will go for a 4 mi walk when I get home from work. Not as strenuous as running, but I will get movement in my day!

Maria :upsidedow

Good Monday Morning Meaners! I am so glad to see so many of you posted! Thanks so much for checking in.....makes things easier on me! :goodvibes

Amy:

Kim:

I am not sure if Amy can post since she is on vacation, and Kim has been missing in action for the last few weeks. I will let things open until Wed to declare the winner in case either one checks in between now and then!

I am so proud of all of you! You have really risen to the challenge!!!! Great weight loss numbers all around! Good job. :cool1::cool1:

So, this is the last week of the challenge!! How's everyone doing????

Maria: Glad that your TM got fixed! Too bad it took so long though......

Cindy: Great job on the TRI!!!! You placed so well, and kept your face in the water!!!!! WTG! I have a new respect for those who do tris......after just running the last leg of one a few weeks ago. I felt wasted after just the run! I don't think I would have been able to finish the whole thing. :scared1:

AFM: Well, my weight this AM was great!!!! Wish it could have been Thursday already! I did my 11 miler yesterday, which contributes to the weight being down like 4 pounds!!!! I would love to keep it off this week!

I did pretty well eating over the weekend.....trying to be down at least 2 pounds from last week! We'll see how that all works out!

Beth

Whoops! Sorry Beth - my total weight loss should be 4 pounds.

Strangely quiet around here.....someone check in please!

AFM: So, yesterday's struggle.......to keep portion sizes down, and limited snacking. I felt hungry at odd times, but did refrain from the mindless snacking that always gets me into trouble. I have to be honest.....I can't wait for this spa weight loss challenge to be over. Monday thru Thursday really bites. I have to be careful constantly......ugh. It has really stepped up my game and helped me to lose 10 pounds rather quickly.....so I am happy with that! But, geez.......I like to snack! ;)

I also have been enjoying shopping through my closet. I guess the weight I am now was my lowest weight in my journey. I have tons of pants that were on hold ((((and hardley worn since I didn't stay at this weight very long ))))) because they didn't fit. Well, I have to say everything fits now!!!! I like having the variety, though I tend to wear the same things all the time. I never had much variety as a kid, since I was a fat kid. I had a certain number of clothes that I wore constantly.......and it became a habit. I do try to wear different things right now, since I have them. I am glad that things fit now, and I don't have to shop for any new clothes! (((I don't have the finances for that any way, so that's a blessing))))

There are so many different little things we can use as motivation, when our motivation is low. I have been loving the feeling of strength with exercise. I loved my 5K race on Saturday because I felt strong, was running faster than I ever had, and my breathing was totally under control. My legs were strong, and not tired or weak. So, logging 40 miles a week has it's upside!!!!

This has, and will continue to be, a long journey for me. I have learned alot about myself.....some good, some bad. The one thing I am learning is consistentcy. If I continue to plugg along, eat well the majority of the time, and get my workouts in, things continue to go pretty well for me. I am not perfect.....no one is, but if I percervere (sp?) and continue on this healthy path, things will continue to go well. It's alot of give and take......I need to be accountable for my actions. If I am eating to much, I need to readjust and buckle down again.

My goal this time around is to try my hardest in maintenance. I got lazy last time.....thinking that I was "done". We are never done, and I have to concentrate on all those things that I have been doing to lose weight to try better to maintain. I will have to probably keep a better eye on the scale.....last time, I stopped stepping on the scale because I got a little full of myself. It's hard work......wether you are losing weight, or trying to maintain your loss. I will do better this time! :thumbsup2

Beth

Hey Lean Meaners! Just quickly checking in today... I worked out last night with my PT. I told him about my big loss and he thought it might have been water weight or just being able to eat different foods on a more regular schedule (He had a name for it but I forget what it was called). I think the biggest challenge will be keeping it off which should be interesting since it's my TOM this week :( I'm hoping to get out tonight for a 3 miler. The forecast is calling for thunderstorms but here's hoping they show up later, later tonight :)

Beth - Maintenance is something I've struggled with myself. I use to go on diets just to lose weight for a specific event - WDW, weddings etc. and then I'd gain it all back afterward. So I totally agree with you that it's an ongoing thing. And hooray for closet shopping! I think it's such a great feeling finding something that use to be tight and uncomfortable that now fits as it should! I'll have to go back and find your 5K race report... I totally missed it.

Vicky: I don't think I even mentioned the 5K in any other post. I am not one for race reporting! ;)

It was a local 5K benifiting a local YMCA. Saturday was just the perfect day too (we got lucky there). Last year is was so hot and humid......ugh.

The course was basically through local neighborhoods, but pretty challenging with rolling hills. I felt great from the get-go. Well rested ((((I had fallen asleep before 9PM the night before, by accident!))). My Garmin had me about 9:45 pace throughout the race, with a finish time of 30:15.....which I am pretty sure is a PR. I wanted to get it under 30:00, but I tend to puke at the end of races and tried really hard at the end of this one not to puke. I didn't.....for the first time in a along time! My pace was consistent, I felt strong, and my breathing was 10X better than the year before. I took about 3 minutes off my time from last year for the same race. When I really put on a kick at the end, I puke. I have tried so many different things (eating, not eating, different foods, etc) but nothing works if I put a big kick in the end. So, my tactic this time was up the speed throughout the race and not a burst of speed at the end. Seemed to have worked I guess. I did have a little kick at the end, but constantly thinking "don't puke"! I am glad I didn't!

The race had great snacks afterward, with door prizes too! I did win a travel bag (one of the last prizes)....I was actually headed to the car to leave when my name was announced!

I stayed away from my favorite potato chips at the end.....Martin's Waffle b-bque chips (My absolute fav!) I would have eaten several bags given the oppurtunity! :scared1:

This was the second weekend in a row for a race for me.....did a 5 miler last weekend with a PR!

Beth

Beth - Congrats on your PR! Three minutes off a previous time is fantastic! I'll bet you would have made it in under 30 minutes if it weren't for the hills. I'm also impressed you stayed away from the chips at the end. I don't think I would have resisted :) Good job!!

Not much of a check-in, I am totally spent. I had jury duty today, and narrowly escaped a gang shooting case that was expected to last until next Tuesday. Whew!

On the bright side, I read Pretty in Plaid by Jen Lancaster. Yep, the entire book. I'll be back in the ol' salt mines tomorrow, and probably no time to DIS since I'll have missed a day. I could use some of that motivation you are dishing out Beth and Vicky!

I feel totally drained. I think it would have been easier to do a race. Sigh.

Maria :upsidedow
