Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Hey all!

Quick post from me this morning. No weight loss last week and 25 points. Somehow I totally missed seeing that you can get points for push ups. I am on the sit up one for this week though.

A bit surprised about no loss. I had a few people last week who see me on a fairly regular basis asking me if I had lost more weight within the last couple weeks. I guess it is all in the inches. I have noticed that I need to put my belt over one more notch, and I felt super confident in my 2 piece bathing suit this weekend!

Very scared of what the scale will say this week, with all the birthday and anniversary celebrating over the weekend. It has been fun though! Delena's party was a huge success! I love hosting parties, but I feel like I never get to talk to anyone!

Be back later this week with a proper post!

Beth: I'll be watching the game tonight, so if you are sitting behind home plate I will see if you are snacking. Keep that in mind when you are tempted by the peanuts and cracker jacks.

I hope to post more later.

It's been an up-and-down few days for me. I kept up with the Galloway group and felt really good afterwards. Now, we went slow -- but it was very hot and we seem to have a sensible leader. I plan to return to do Saturday's 10 with them.

In the meanwhile, I have been obsessing about my bike (since the 13mi ride -- especially because I have the 17mi one looming ahead). I know I am fat and not in the greatest shape, but I really would like to "move up" to a hybrid bike that is more light-weight and better equipped for the highway. With that in mind, I've been pouring over Craigslist posts and found a used one that I wanted. Talked DH into it and went to the local bike store to take a look and test ride (same model as on craigslist). DH waffled about whether to buy new and get lifetime free service rather than buy used and save some dough. Finally opted to sleep on it. Sadly, when he woke up, he advised we really couldn't afford to buy either bike. I was heartbroken, but feel a bit ashamed that I let not having a new bike ruin a few days for me. It's just a bike -- and the one I have now works fine, even if it isn't as light and fast as the shiny new one. Sometimes being an adult and living in the real world is tough. I decided to sell some stuff myself and try to raise some money, but I suspect it will take some selling and some saving to get close to the purchase price. Still maybe I could buy one at next year's clearance sale.

So that's my long story that I'm afraid doesn't have a lot to do with weight loss -- but has more to do with the exercise I'm doing. Hey, maybe it does have something to do with it -- as losing 80 pounds off ME would certainly make a lot more difference in my biking than losing a few pounds through a lighter bike. :cutie:

Thanks Cindy and Vicky and Debra and Beth for all your encouragement -- and congrats to Jeanne on both the running and the weight loss -- You go, girl! Forgive me if I left your name out -- if I don't get to work I'm going to discover what scrimping and saving really means! :)

Hey Meaners! Glad to be back! Just got in from Baltimore, and of course the Red Sox won the game last night!!!! We got to stay for the whole game for the first time, since we were spending the night only a few blocks away! We stayed in the same hotel as the Red Sox's and did have several sighting of players (Jason Veritek with the whole family!)

We did end up with an autographed picture of Big Papi, but alas didn't meet him......but the picture is nice and Adam is thrilled!

Wendy: I think we all understand, all too well, with the finanicial issues you are having. Every purchase I make (for anyone in the family) is done with alot of thought (and sleeping on it). We bought a bike (just from Wal-Mart, but still......) for ds#1. His no longer fit, and he really wanted a 'gear' bike. I had to creatively put money aside for it because I really wanted him to have a decent bike, but I am always nervous to spend any money..... but we got a Schwinn for him for $170, and he loves it! I am glad we could do it then....who knows if we would be able to do it now!

I think it's a sound plan to 'weed' out those things you don't need anymore and sell them. That fund could grow pretty quickly for you to have for the bike. It's a great goal!

AFM: I didn't do too bad with the eating yesterday.....but there were a few things I had that I probably shouldn't have. My dh got an order of crab dip chips (of course, since we were in Baltimore!) I had my fair share of them, but that really served as dinner. Later (too late to eat, but I was starving!) we shared an order of crab cakes. I did get up this morning and completed 5.5 miles on the hotel TM too! :) So, at least the workout got in!

Whew! Thanks heavens you posted, Beth! I thought I'd become the thread killer! And seriously, the moral of my story was that in the end I was a bit ashamed of myself. I think it is such a part of our culture that we want and want and want -- and we forget to be grateful for what we have. I'm sorry I got caught up in that, but hey... it's human, I guess. And hey, my primary bike was a Schwinn until 4 years ago, so I hope your son enjoys his. Good for you for saving and spending responsibly!

I may want to use today's weight as my weekly weight. I weighed three times and -- WHOA! Can that be right? -- I actually weigh 227. Again, I have no idea how. I was in such a tizzy at work this week that I didn't follow through on my goals to write everything down, but I still lost. Well, I'll take it!

For any of you headed out for the 4th -- Enjoy! Off to work!

Yippee Wendy!!!! Maybe the secret is to not obcess to much! I am glad you are seeing some success this week.....you deserve it!

Yeah, I thought I was the thread killer! I am glad you posted!

AFM: I am on the way to weigh in for the spa weight loss challenge. Lets hope for the best! I didn't have a stellar weekend, but I did run 35 miles last week, and with a long run last night I am at 23 already this week. I didn't feel good after my 10 miler last night.....I had really bad stomach cramps....don't know if it was a touch of a virus, or from my run. I ended up not eating dinner, so now I am starving!

A day of errands, and it was supposed to be grass cutting.....but we had bad storms last night, so it is way to wet to cut. Hopefully tomorrow!

Wendy: WTG on that fabulous weight loss!!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

We had a bad series of storms last night and this morning I discovered I had absolutely no internet service. :scared1: Because of the holiday weekend, the cable company won't be able to come out until Monday, so I probably won't be posting much. Put me down for another pound lost (213) and 46 points this week. The weight have have actually been a teeny bit more since it's hard to tell if I'm 212 or 213 and my scale doesn't do fractions, but I'll save the extra for next week. As long as I keep going down, I am happy. I LOVE the new healthy eating.....never knew fruits and veggies could make you feel so full! Today I ran nonstop for 1.3 miles......I would have never thought that was possible several weeks ago. Walked the rest out to 2 miles and then did spin class. I am truly on a mission!

That's it for now, guys.....I'm on a borrowed computer! Have a wonderful holiday weekend and please keep safe!

I guess we all got side-tracked for the holiday!

Let's repeat last weeks points for this coming week.

Report in as soon as you can!

Beth

Hey Beth, you're right....where is everyone? I'm back on the borrowed computer to check our new flex/bonus points and no one has checked in! I guess that's what happens on a holiday weekend. Makes me feel a little bit better about falling off the wagon this weekend. It's OK....I CHOSE to eat the things I did; I enjoyed them and now it's back to healthy stuff. :thumbsup2I didn't know what the new points were so I've just been using last week's criteria until the new ones come out....but it looks like I'm the only one who cares!
Off to get a short walk in so I can claim 2 more for today.....

Hey Lean Meaners! Sorry I haven't had a chance to check in. I had a bit of a busy weekend. I didn't have a chance to keep track of my points last week but I think they would have been low since I didn't do any crunches or keep track of my fibre. I did lose 1.1 lbs though so that made me happy. I start training this week for my 1/2 at the end of September - that seems so far away but I find that time always flies when I'm training.

Wendy - I totally understand where you're coming from. I have wanted a bike for a long time but it seems like everytime I get a little bit of money, there's some emergency or something that needs taking care of. I don't think you should feel bad, who doesn't like new toys/goodies :)

Beth - How did your spa weigh-in go?

Jeannie - Congrats on the 1 pound loss!! Hope your cable and internet get fixed soon. I had mine knocked out for a couple of days last week and found that I really missed it. It's funny that we're so use to have access to it. I have to say that I really like your philosophy of just eating what you really want. I think it's hard to enjoy a holiday weekend if you're too restrictive with your diet anyway.

Sarah - Congrats on the loss!

Debra - Working hard or hardly working? ;) We miss you...

Sorry, I didn't get to post before I went away for the weekend. No internet access. Ugh!! No weight loss this week and 41 pts.

Hope to get back here soon.

Cindy

I was UP about a pound, which is bad but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be after a week of SIL being here and all the extraneous eating and drinking and little exercise. This week will for sure be better!

Hey group! I am so glad that some of you posted! I was getting a little worried!

I just decided to repeat the points from last week to this week.....I hope that is ok with all of you.

***For next weeks exercise challenge I was thinking of using a jump rope. If you don't have one, maybe during your weeks travels you could look for one maybe at your local $1.00 store!***

Everyone seems to be doing well. I will post the standings from home later.....I have a sheet started with everyones starting numbers to keep track of weight loss.

Last week for me was pretty good. I ended up getting really sick to my stomach last Wednesday after my 10 miler.....and didn't eat dinner. So, weigh in time Thursday morning was a bonus (not that I wanted it to go this way......) but I ended up losing 4 pounds for the week. I know I will pay for that this week, because there is no way that I will starve myself Wednesday again! (((((food is way to important to me! ;)))))))) So, it looks pretty bleak for me losing anything this week (I am, at this point, worried about a gain!)

I am now officially down a total of 73 pounds from my heaviest weight, 30 lbs since January of this year, and into new numbers! I was happy for that at least!

I did ok during the holdiay weekend (worried with the gaining thing!) and I ran 42.5 miles last week! I finally broke that 40 mile mark!!! But, I was really tired with dead legs on my run last night! I was even tempted to skip running this morning, but I got up anyway since I am worried about the 'gain' this week! I will have Pilates class tonight too (for an added bonus!)

I hope to see everyone else check in! (debra!)

Beth

Hello Lean Meaners!

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. (Is there a "slinking back in with head hung low" smilie?) I did not fall off the healthy eating/exercising wagon, I dove off of it head first. :guilty: I think I was run over by the wagon too.

I have not run or done any type of exercise in over two weeks. Plus, June is "birthday month" in my family. In the span of 2 weeks, my DD, my mom, me, and my DS all have b-days. That's a lot of cake, which, of course, I did not refuse. :cake: As I'm sitting here typing, I swear I can feel the weight packing itself on. :sad2:

So, I am determined to get back on track. DH & I have just committed to running the WDW marathon (we were unsure if we'd have the $ and babysitting, but that's all worked out) and I want to be thinner and in better shape when I run it this time.

Thanks for letting me ramble. I've missed so many posts, but I will try to catch up ASAP. :goodvibes

Hey, buds! I don't know if I've posted this before, but I was looking through my own notes and found this information about how weight loss is related to increased speed. It makes perfect sense, really -- less weight to carry means that, all else being equal, you'll see improvements in your pace.

From Top Ten Ways to Improve Your 5K Performance: "...every pound of excess weight will decrease your running performance by 2 seconds per mile. So, if you add 10 pounds of unwanted body fat you will lose 20 seconds per mile from your running pace. There is little scientific evidence to back up that claim, but in both my personal and coaching experience I have found that number to be fairly accurate."

From The Drop Zone: "It's simple, it's beautiful—just lose ten pounds of fat and you'll fly... (But make sure that weight loss is real, not just fleeting water loss.)... 'Any extra flab is dead weight that isn't going to help you generate accelerating force,' says Tom Osler, author of The Serious Runner's Handbook. To make his case, Osler analyzed 40 years of data from 1,800 races, ranging from 5Ks to marathons, and found that, on average, every extra pound of body fat costs 2.5 seconds per mile."

From Tips for Running Faster: "Drop ten pounds and, over the course of a marathon, you'll shave close to 11 minutes off your time."

Interestingly, most of these articles rely solely on Osler's work. Still, something to think about before you dive into those extra portions.

The 30 pounds I took off sure make me feel better running! We will have to see if I am faster or not at my next race (Chicago).
