Weight issues and bathing suits/bikinis?

I"m 5'9" and a size six and I get dirty looks all the time when I'm wearing my bikini.

Why are you getting dirty looks? Jealous women or are you at a Amish beach or something?

Speaking as a guy, first let me say:

Secondly, I could really care less what type of bathing suit a woman wears. BUT, if you gals are gonna wear a bikini, especially a high-rise bikini please consider a bikini shave! I saw one woman in the Caribbean wearing a skimpy bikini who had more hair there then I did on my head...looked like a French Poodle wearing an eye-patch. :crazy2:

Look, I want to emphatically state that "to each his own", I don't really care what other people wear and it's a free country and all that. But, I also want to point out that NOT liking how someone else might look isn't totally about being judgmental or looking down your nose at someone.

I was raised (right or wrong) during a time where etiquette was a big deal, people RSVP'd, people were quiet in movie theaters, and there was some propriety in the world. Granted, maybe then, things were over the top, but what I do remember (as a teenager) was that one only wore a bikini if you had the body to do so. It wasn't *just* my mom telling me this, it was society as a whole. So, really, I haven't worn a bikini since I was 20!! Now, in some ways, I'm glad that society has relaxed a bit (I remember when slightly overweight girls could never even DREAM of being on the cheerleading squad). But, I think with some of us, that mentality of how things used to be still sticks. So, I don't wear a bikini because I don't think I look good in it. A lot of other people DON'T look good in it but they seem to be okay wearing them. But that doesn't stop me from saying in my head "man, where'd she get the nerve to do that" and "does she really think she looks okay in that?". Yes, shallow of me I know. But I do keep it to myself.

I feel like you should wear the swimsuit your comfortable in and it's no one else's business!

Learn how to read. I said:
\"IMHO there are VERY few women over 25 who should be in a bikini, let alone a string bikini.\"

If you\'re one of the \"very few\" great for you. But I still stand by my statement.

And for the record, I\'m 5\' 8\" and a size 6. So honey, trust me, I certainly don\'t feel bad about myself. At all.

Anne

and your stats are meant impress me? Its not as if I needed to justify my statements by my weight or size...you were talking AGE not size.

I think very few tall people should wear capris.

ha hahahahaha!!!

someone who wears a 6 doesn\'t necessarily exercise, eat right, have good skin, have nice toned abs. I don\'t know who you are or what you look like...all I know is age is not the determining factor in wearing a bikini.

so you READ IT RIGHT. HONEY.

How few are very few and are you the judge in that? GOOD GRIEF.

I for one am not going to let age determine my life. You go ahead.

I don't think it's simply a matter on weight/size. It's more a matter of how toned someone is. I've seen size 14 women look great in a 2 piece and size 4 women look horrible.

ITA! For example one of my best friends, is to quote her "a big girl." She's 5' 10" and could never be skinny (probably wears right around a 16). Yet, she has a nice curvy figure and looks great in a bikini/tankini. I wear a 0 and she looks better in a bikini than I do. I don't think size is the most important part of who looks good in a bikini. I think it is more how your built.

Okay, that's weird my post has been deleted from this thread.
I can't imagine that it was even remotely offensive??!! :confused3

What kind of message are you teaching your daughter?

But to damn them on aesthetics is simply shallow and cruel.

You don't get to judge whether they look great or sexy. It's not your job.

Right on! Very nicely put. :thumbsup2

Nicer then I woudl have been - which is why I kept my trap shut. ;)

I don't care who wears or doesn't wear bikinis. I'm 5'6 and a size four, when I wear my bikini I'm always tugging cause I'm not comfortable with my body and I have 20% body fat!! I think a bigger person in a bikini not pulling, tugging or looking self conscious looks better than I do. Self confidence can make most people look great :thumbsup2

If you think about it we are lucky we can wear bikinis. Just think if you lived in the middle east you would most likely be covered head to toe. And you do not see too many of them that get to go to WDW. :scratchin

If your post was quoting that troll most foul, then that maybe why it was deleted.

To the OP: I would just like to kick myself for not wearing more bikinis before I had kids. Now after 2 c-sections I'm good in clothes, but unless or until I have a tummy tuck, I'm going for a tankini.

When I was 13, with a cute little figure and probably a size 2, I went to a local beach wearing a bikini I thought I looked nice in. Anyway a group of same aged boys walked by and one said to another with a sneer on his face "there's your girlfriend." I never wore a bikini again. I thought I was so ugly and I was not at all.

When I see a larger woman wearing a bikini, I envy them a bit for feeling comfortable with their bodies when I do not, but I'm glad not everyone has a major complex.

Did you reply to one of the "troll's" posts earlier in the thread, and quote him in it? I reported one of his more offensive statements and I bet others did too as his posts are no longer in this thread (I just checked). Maybe that is why - it deleted the posts that quoted him?

And I'm still reading and biting my tongue on actually giving a thread-related reply to this post LOL. A true test of willpower.

I don't care what other people wear. If they are happy in it, good for them!

Hmmm, then very strange. What did you say, huh? huh?
My previous post was as follows...
"Wear whatever you feel good in,
I wore a bikini while 8 months pregnant and felt great,I could not care less what anyone thinks".

Pretty dull huh? Unless the thought of a VERY pregnant woman in a bikini scared someone... :rotfl2:

In my opinion, there aren't that many people who can really get away with wearing a bikini, but that's just my opinion. And, like another brave poster, I do notice what others are wearing and sometimes, sometimes even comment on it to my husband. Does that mean I have nothing better to do, as another poster said? No, it just means I feel comfortable expressing my true opinion to my family. I guess I'm not perfect, like other posters on here (Disneyrsh), and sometimes mean, judgemental observations come out of my mouth, especially after a drink or two, but then I just go back to reading my book or whatever.

But, I don't wear a bikini and probably never will at my age-38. Recent conversation with my husband:

Me: Honey, do I look fat in this bikini?

Husband: "You, no, you are not fat" No way.

Me: Okay, do I look really white?

Husband: God, yes, you are white.

I'm so pale, and sometimes, I think that looks worse, no matter how toned a person is, but I won't tan and get skin cancer, so I wear a tankini.

Don't feel bad. I am a true pasty white color. I was at the beach yesterday and I think I scared myself with my whiteness. No lie, I was the whitest person on that beach.

Hey, I'm white as snow and proud of it!! :) At least we won't have deal with sun damage issues later on from tanning all the time.
