Weight Gain...

We ate well when we were Cruised last May......breakfast, lunch , and dinner. I even ordered 2 deserts every night after dinner......didn't necessarily eat both, but I tried both. We took a trip to scoops almost daily and we ordered cookies thru room service. I didn't gain a pound, and my DH actually lost a couple. We took the stairs 99% of the time and we walked everywhere including when we stopped at Cozumel and Grand Cayman.

Boy will it be fun to get into a bathing suit and nice clothes again!! Much more enjoyable than stuffing my face with unhealthy food!!

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

Actually, I think Tortuga Rum Cake tastes better than thin feels. But that could just be me.

Travel always makes me retain ridiculous amounts of water. When we took a 3 day disney cruise I was SO good, ate mostly salads and fresh fruits and veggies, skipped desserts except for souffle at Palo, always took the stairs etc and came back 11 lbs heavier than I left. I couldn't believe it, how unfair. It took about a week to lose that plus another pound or two. Since then I have always weighed myself before and after and for some reason flying just makes me retain crazy amounts of water.

Personally I would just concentrate on eating as heathy as possible. I always drink lots of water, start every meal (except for breakfast) with a salad and a big glass of water and then eat whatever I want after that... there's not a lot of tummy room left to overindulge.

I have always lost weight on any type of vacation. I think walking a lot does it to you.

I returned from our 7 day cruise and had no weight gain. I took advantage of the WONDERFUL fresh fruit in the morning for breakfast, when I was full I stopped, I didn't feel I had to finish every bite, and we had no snacking in between meals. Plus I drink a lot of water. Of course I splurged and had my favorite dessert cheesecake and champagne at supper. But I also walked a lot. I took the stairs. Plus we did a lot of excursions w/activities so that helped. I was never miserable from overeating either.

Yes, I gained on all three cruises.

The first time, 5 lbs, the second 8 lbs, and the 3rd 3 lbs.

I do enough of the 'healthy choices, no refined carbs, no fat, etc' the rest of the year. (Oh, and I lost ALL of the weight I gained within two weeks of return, each time. Another poster was right, a lot of it is water gain.)

You're on vacation. (A cruise! Food is plentiful, and if you wish to enjoy it, go for it.) Unless you have major health problems, one week is not going hurt. :flower:

Yeah, yeah, I remember that one...wasn't that the mantra from Weight Watchers? The ol' "nothing tastes better than thin feels" ... I don't know, happiness takes many shapes, sizes, and flavors!
Actually, I have a bit of a challenge ahead of me in that I must keep off the weight I am planning to lose this spring ( :rolleyes1 hopefully!! fortunately 6-8 lbs would do a lot for me), because my 20 yr HS reunion is just weeks after returning from our 7 night cruise. I prefer to exercise harder than give up desserts and tropical drinks while on vacation! Oh yeah, and DANCING late into the evening is a favorite activity!!! :cool1:

I STRONGLY disagree......which may explain my weight. Almost everything on the Magic tasted better than how good thin feels.

Never used the elevators, did laps around the ship, walked everwhere in St Martin and St.Thomas, snorkeled and went bike riding on Castaway Cay, didn't gain any weight.

I have a friend that says that. Course she smokes like a chimney and drinks like a fish. :rotfl:

Last crusie, I ate what I wanted and gained 4 lbs. This time, I will try to walk the stairs and the prominade a little more. Still plan to eat what I want, but this time it's for 14 days. :earboy2:

We cruised last September. I had recently lost 20 on a low-carb, sugar-free diet. I ate everything I wanted to, including dessert every night and too many ice cream cones and never gained anything! YEAH! I have still kept the weight off and will be cruising again this September.....we'll see if I'm so lucky again!

Hi all!
Just came back from the Feb. 12, 2005 Magic 7 day Cruise. Just before the cruise I had lost 34 pounds and had the fear of everyone else. I said the things you are saying too. Took my exercise shoes, leggings etc in hopes of doing the treadmill daily...yada..yada...yada.... but we all know ladies that when you plan like this ....IT DOESNT HAPPEN!!!

Truthfully I put on eight pounds on the cruise and yes, I ate it all baby!!! But ya know, because you dont eat like that normally it falls right back off when you are off the boat in a couple of days. Yes, I gained eight but lost six of it two days after coming home.

So, my two cents.....is take your vacation...enjoy every piece of it and all the food you would like to consume...because after all ....it is your vacation, you dont do it everyday and there is nothing worse then being somewhere exotic and saying....."oh I better not eat that, it will go right to the hips". Forget it and enjoy...I did and I dont regret it a bit!!! Just add five minutes to your workouts for a couple of weeks following if it doesnt come right off. And remember......drink your water!!

Enjoy your cruise and dont let it bother you...if you lost it to begin with you will lose it again!!

Julia

I'm with Stinasmom! Eat what you want on vacation and just exercise more to burn it off. Vacations are to enjoy!

Eat what you want, but just don't overdo it!!! Be smart by taking stairs, getting a few laps in around deck 4 or getting a quick workout in in the mornings. In a three week Disney trip, 1 week at WDW and 2 DCL cruises in a row, I walked away about 8 lbs heavier. I ate dessert every day for those 3 weeks, drank fatty alcohol drinks every day, made somewhat smart choices in entrees most of the time and enjoyed Scoops once a day on the ship, but I also made it a point to work out everyday. We walked purposefully the long way to things at WDW, made it to the gym to lift every other day both on the ship and at WDW and spent about 45 minutes a day in the workout room on DCL. 45 minutes out of your day IS NOT A LOT. Enjoy your trip, but be kind to your body, too, by just taking a bit for a quick workout!

The hardest part is after the cruise when you want to eat dessert and ice cream for a snack after getting into that routine on vacation! I am still enjoying my daily dose of chocolate....those darn girl scout cookies!!!

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I'm going to have a hard time maintaining weight that week cause I'm one to gain just smelling yummy things. I will take the advice to use the stairs and walk the deck and I will try to get to that gym at least 4x that week. I am going to enjoy the food and pay my dues when I return home. Thanks for all the advice :-)
