My Aunt, Brother, cousin and I are going to WDW September 30 through October 7 and have the free dining plan. Having traveled last year with the dining plan I have learned a lot. However, this year I am committed to keeping my weight in control. I do not mind gaining a few pounds in order to enjoy my vacation and to get my monies worth. However, I want to keep this to just a few pounds. I will make good choices but do not want to feel too limited.

Hence my question to all the free diners out there.

How much weight did you gain on the dining plan???

:earsgirl:

We did not gain a pound on our 10 days on the free DDP with all the extra walking the pounds just got sweated away!!

We just got back and ate really well. :cloud9: I gained 2 lbs  which I've already lost :dance3: and DD (19) didn't gain anything.

One thing we did that I know most people won't do is to have our TS for lunch. I'd rather have my bigger me earlier in the day and eat lighter in the evening. This worked very well for us since we spent the afternoon walking or swimming which helped burn off the calories from the big lunch. :thumbsup2

We also made a point of using our snack credits for fruit and yogurt rather than ice cream, cookies, chips, etc.

DH and I were there in May, I had been on Weight Watchers and was leary of the Dining Plan. I actually lost 1 pound!! We did very light breakfast, CS lunch and TS dinner every day! And I did get the desserts! Just think about all the walking you are going to do and enjoy your meals!!!!

Starting out I recently lost 30 lbs on Dr. Phil's. Left Aug 2nd for vacation and returned Aug 26. We did a 7 night cruise, 10 nights at WL then 3 at Universal. Ate three meals a day, with dessert at most meals and only gained 5 lbs back. Had surgery two days ago and the pain medication has zapped my appetite so I'm thinking I'm probally ahead now. Boy did I have a great time. The eating that is, not the surgery. LOL :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I think that with all the walking at WDW you can enjoy the DDP without gaining weight. We made sure to walk as often as possible. We avoided trams and other transportation aids in order to get in alot of walking.

Yep....I lost 5 pounds last time! :thumbsup2 Of course, that's considering I don't change my eating habits. I eat what want and that's it, I don't try to scarf it down cause it's already paid for.

I honestly felt like I had gained 5 pounds when we got back, no lack of self control at all when ordering. No weight gain fortunatly, must be all the walking.

Remember... one pound of body weight equals 3,500 calories. That's how many extra calories you'd have to eat above and beyond what you are burning to gain one pound.

So, unless you're going on a super long vacation, I wouldn't worry about weight gain too much. Relax, try to make some smart choices, and also indulge when you feel like it. And if you do gain a couple pounds, redouble your efforts when you get home!

Just returned from an 8 night stay on the dining plan and gained 5 pounds. Thought it would be more because I cant imagine eating more than I did. However, all the walking does help!

I lost 2 pounds.
I ate a light breakfast.
At CS meals I ate whatever I wanted then just half the dessert.
At TS meals I ate half of everything. 1/2 my appetizer, 1/2 my meal and 1/2 my dessert. I was stuffed at 1/2's of everything, never felt deprived and LOVED the Dining plan.

I lost 3 pounds. Ate a breakfast bar for breakfast (brought from home), a decent CS lunch w/ a bit of dessert, for for TS dinners we shared 1 appetizer, and I usually ate about half of my dessert.

IMO, where you really have to capacity to gain weight is by having too many snacks. I either used my snack credits for water or let DD have them for Mickey bars - I never ate between meals. If you have a light breakfast, and eat your CS and TS meals as you usually would, you should be fine.

Didn't have the free plan, paid for it in august...ate pretty much everything, had salads for the appetizer...full entree...entire dessert...all for 7 days and gained only ONE pound. we averaged 6-7 miles a day in the parks, plus with sweating and drinking water in the august heat. It felt really good to get out and walk after those heavy meals! :cool1:

We were there for 8 days and didn't gain anything either and I'm sure it's because of all that walking we did in the hot weather. It might help if you have good metabolism too. Of course my 9 yr old son insist that he "got fatter" after all those meals!

We were on the DDP for 8 nights and didn't gain any weight. You just have to remember not to eat ALL the food you can, but to limit yourself. The CS desserts are really pretty lousy overall and therefore were easy for me to toss. I also make a point to eat about half of the entree and to have a salad for the appetizer instead of something fried or heavy. Just choose sensibly and stop yourself from eating everything. Remember, too, that more food's coming.

I'm not worried about weight gain. I'll start my diet when I get home.

I have PCOS, so i gain wt very easily. I'm insulin resistant with a funky metabolic thing that doesnt handle carbs.(not diabetic, but carbs ...basically anything white (flour, sugar, some fruits etc) i'm allergic, can gain fast, but can lose fast when not eating any)

I plan on eating whatever i want and as much as i want. The minute i get home, i'll go back to low carb, and drop 15lbs in 2-3 weeks easy. I'll be at goal which is 15lbs lower than my siggy by xmas (..notice how sure of myself i am lol darnit!)

But heck, i've lost nearly 50lbs in 4 months, i plan on scarfing my food as fast as its given to me. I do sorta plan on gaining 10lbs, and will be more than pleasantly suprised if i dont (but like i said i can lose 10lbs in 2 weeks :) )

When we are on vacation, we eat whatever we want and don't worry about it. We just got back and I gained about 3 1/2 lbs which is the same amount I gained last year at WDW. DH gained slightly more. DS (11) whose doctor states he needs to gain weight lost a couple of lbs...go figure!
