Weight gain at WDW?

I'm wondering this as well. I've never bothered to care on any of our past trips.

But this year, I'm participating in the "whole life challenge" which is an 8 week paleo only diet and exercise event which ironically ends a few days before we are at WDW for 2 weeks.

Paleo diet is a no processed wheats, no dairy and no sugars.

I'm 1/2 way through and I've lost 15lbs and expect to drop more before it ends.

And for the record, I plan on enjoying all my ADRs!!!!

Actually,
Water retention is most likely from glycerol. Increased intake of carbs cause this quite easily. Increase blood sugar, insulin goes up and water retention goes up. Glycerol binds with water and excess is quickly stored away. Use up the glycerol (sugar alcohol), the water comes off.

This is why those that start low carb diets quickly (usually) lose ALOT of weight. Most of it is water. As the body uses up it's sugar reserves the bond between the water and glycerol is broken and the water is released to the kidneys.

I think it's the sodium too though, the food at Disney is really salty. Even at home if I eat takeout food (which generally has a lot of salt), I can gain two pounds of water overnight.

Last October during F&W and with Free Dining I was so worried. I gain weight very easy and we ate allot and definitely didn't watch our calories in the least.

I gained 1 pound! Totally worth it!

My husband last 7 pounds!!! Darn men and the easy ability to loose weight.

Even if I don't gain weight on vacation I find that after an extended period of pigging out I have trouble resetting my appetite after I get back home. So for me it's best to try not to change my normal eating habits even when I'm on vacation.

If anything I lose 2-3lbs. I eat what I want but just because I have 1/2 of a cupcake left doesn't mean I have to eat it. There are times when I can finish a full steak dinner plus dessert, and others when I'll order just an app because I'm not too hungry. It's more about balance than anything else.

3500 extra calories will get you one pound of gain...if you get on the scale as soon as you get home, it will be bad news. Wait 2 days, drink lots of water, then you will see a very small gain...My problem is that I keep eating like I'm on vacation for 3 weeks, then it really is 5 lbs

Do you ever get "vacation fingers"?
From salty snacks, sodas, and not enough to water??

My mom always gets this every trip! She's very sensitive to salt and by the end of the trip this always makes her feel uncomfortable even though she's careful to eat healthy - as healthy as you can in WDW :) I like your name for it, "vacation fingers."

I always lose weight. The average guest walks something like eight miles a day.

Weight gain? Nope. We eat way more than usual and still always lose at least 5 lbs each while we are there due to all of the walking. Another reason why we love DW! :cool1:

We lose weight every trip, and we eat a good amount! Had free dining once. But we're usually going open to close without much for breaks. Miles of walking every day

With all the walking and water drinking I don't gain anything. I make sure to drink water like I do at home though avoiding pop, stuff like that.

We do the dining plan and I always lose weight at Disney. I think it's partially due to all the walking and carrying a heavy toddler, and partially because I drink more water at Disney than at home. We always go during summer. If I went during the winter and didn't sweat as much or drink as much water I think I might gain weight.

I always lose weight when we are at Disney. I do workout regularly at home. Nothing major, 3 miles 4-5 times per week and minimal strength training. We usually go in May or Oct. so the heat decreases my appetite I think. That coupled wth all the walking usually leads to a 2-3 pound loss for me. My husband usually gains. The only time I can lose weight faster than him!!

9.5lb gain in one week is my record lol!

I'm a size 4-6 and I eat very healthily at home, but when I go away I pig out on whatever I feel like - and come home feeling like a whale, haha!

I usually gain around 8 or 9 lbs at Disney. I walk and exercise a lot at home and so the walking at Disney doesn't help keep the weight off while I'm there. The reason being is I eat more at Disney, it would be like eating out every day at home which I don't do. I don't try to eat healthier on vacation. Most of what I gain is from water retention and on the trip home my legs swell (not on the way down tho).
I usually have to go back to work the day after we get home so I just do a fast on that day. Liquids only. Lots of liquids. That gets rid of all the swelling and weight gain for me.

Put me in the "it is a wash" category. I usually try to drop a few pounds before a trip. The trip itself - I eat way more junk than I would at home but all that walking just burns it off. This trip being our first FP+ trip should be interesting in that I was the FP runner. This should cut into my walking somewhat.

I usually don't gain a thing. I eat whatever and whenever I want at WDW, however the key for me is to get right back to a strict regimen of diet and exercise when I get home. I weigh myself after I have been home a few days and all is well.

Always a wash. I eat more, but I walk a lot more. DH gains as he is more physically active at home than I am.
