Wegovy experiences?

Not Wegovy but a Mounjaro user. One thing to remember is that while both of these are in the GLP1 class they are two different drugs: Ozempic is semaglutide and Mounjaro is tirzepatide. My own personal experience is: Ozempic left me laying on the couch, barf bucket nearby for a couple of days and Mounjaro leaves me nauseous but Zofran keeps it mostly at bay.

Also, if you go to the manufacturers website there are savings cards available. I can’t remember the exact cost for which drug but one was $0 copay (as long as you are not on Medicare, Medicaid, tricare, DoD or other publicly funded health plan AND you have commercial insurance.)

I’m going to take my 3rd Wegovy dose tonight. Down 3.8 lbs. no major side effects, but a major decrease in appetite. I was so hesitant to start but after seeing the positive benefits for heart health and potential reduction in inflammation, my dietician and I decided it was the best option for me. As a binge eater with ADHD, I can’t wait for the food noise to quiet.

Spouse has lost about 40 lbs with Wegovy over 14 months. Consider effects and no “Ozempic” face since he did it slow and didn’t go too low. Now he is in maintenance.

The anti-inflammatory properties are amazing with Ozempic, especially for those who cannot take nsaids due to other meds/conditions. I think that is one of the most surprising pluses about this drug.
Best wishes to everyone on their weight loss to better health journey!!

Interesting you say that. I have Lupus and can’t believe the overall wellness I feel, I was trying to explain it to someone but now it makes sense…

I’m on week 6 and have lost 10 pounds. Slow and steady, I would love to pop this weight off but whenever I’ve done that before it always comes back. I keep reminding myself I didn’t gain it overnight so thinking of it as a year long process helps.

So far I’ve been concentrating on getting enough sleep and water. Eating more protein and fruits/veggies too. I know I need to add more physical activity but I’m trying to be realistic and not set myself up for failure by changing too many habits at once. That will come soon…

I wish I was experiencing some of those anti inflammatory properties.

I swear my wrists and knuckles have gotten twice as swollen since I started taking it. I can barely fit my wedding ring over my knuckle now.

I've been taking compounded semaglutide for a month now on the lowest dose, and I'm set to step up tonight. I've lost 9 pounds so far. My best friend and his wife have both been using it for several months, and are averaging 10 lbs a month lost.

All side effects I've experienced have been minimal and were expected given the nature of the drug:
Heartburn (eat some antacids)
Mild Constipation (Magnesium supplement and pre/probiotics)
Early on I experienced some mild trouble sleeping, which is probably due to my bad habit of consuming caffeine in the evenings. Since things are taking longer to digest, it makes sense that the caffeine was hanging around longer than usual. I simply changed my habits and that problem when away.

All in all I've been happy with the medication so far.
Can I ask where you get your compounded medication from?

I've been on Mounjaro (Same type of med as Ozempic and Wegovy) since May 2023 and am down around 95 pounds. Little to no side effects. A1C now well controlled 5.8 down from 9.9. I'm not worried about the judgment from others. I'm doing what is right for me. G1P-1 meds have been around since 2005. The years of struggling to lose weight and hating myself with so much shame and guilt took their toll and now I feel like I'm eating like a normal person. The obsessive food noise is muted and I'm so relieved. That has helped me to be able to make the lifestyle changes that felt so impossible before. I'm off of my high blood pressure medicine. I'm not worried about "Ozempic face", which is really just what naturally happens when people lose large amounts of weight. The skin does what it does.

I take Wegovy from a compounding pharmacy, which is much cheaper and readily available in the US. It costs around $250 per month. I lose an average of 2 pounds per week (for a total of 14 pound over 6 weeks), which is a slow and steady rate that I am happy with. I have no unwanted side effects, other than feeling tired and a little nauseated on the day I went up from .25mg to .50 mg. What people who have not struggled with being obese don't understand is that it is not just a matter of dieting or having willpower. I have tried every diet out there for the past 17 years that I have struggled with my weight. There is a chemical and psychological component of losing weight, which is why diet and exercise alone aren't helping the majority of overweight people. The most beneficial part of the medicine for me is it takes away the constant "food noise" that I didn't even realize was there until it was gone. And as far as the possible side effects, well obesity has many proven health risks, such as increasing risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and more. I'll take my chances with a medication that is helping me transform my body to a healthy weight.
Exactly this! If you haven't had that nonstop food noise, you just don't get it.

I had to put my injections on hold due to upcoming surgery. My last one was 8/5, but I am still losing weight (slower pace right now). I can start post-surgery as long as I can tolerate food, which should not be an issue since I should be getting an epidural vs general anesthesia.

I agree that dampening the food noise makes all the difference. For those who have never had food noise, they can’t even imagine how much it pushes and pushes and pushes someone to eat. It’s like the shutoff valve is gone and the body thinks it’s starving all the time.
Take away the food noise and sensible choices become easy and the weight slowly comes off.
I’m delighted for you @disneychick0412 that you have successfully lost 95 lbs!
🎉🎉 Way to go! May we all be successful in our desire to get back to a healthy weight again.😉 It’s definitely a work in progress. But now, there’s much more hope in reaching our goals. 👍

I don't know if the judgy comments are aimed at me. I don't care if they are. I don't judge anyone and I know a lot of people who struggle with their weight. My concern is for the future health of those being offered this latest weight loss miracle. The bottom line here is profit, and the people who are profiting right now don't care about the potential side effects that we won't fully understand until some time in the future. This isn't all roses. People have had disastrous side effects with these drugs already. You can find anecdotal accounts with a simple online search. In addition some people who aren't even considered overweight are using the drugs to slim down further, out of vanity, only to find that now they have the unwanted side effects on their faces. Look up ozempic face to see what I mean. Ironic trade off in those cases. Even my own PCP is pushing this medication now with signage in the waiting room and a price list on the wall. No mention what so ever about alternatives such as lifestyle changes, downsides, or warnings. Just "set up the appointment to receive your first dose today! (cash only)). To me that's very scary.
If I could 'like' this more than once, I would 100%! And no, I don't need it, nor would I ever take it - it's perceived as a 'magic' pill by some I know, and they don't realize if they don't get to the root of their problems, it is a lifetime of taking it, or gain all the weight back.
And, lest some think I don't 'understand', I have been offered (encouraged) to take pain meds every day for severe bouts of nerve pain they cannot diagnose, but I refuse because of the very real side effects. I manage in various ways.

I’m very glad that GLP-1s exist. Many have tried every diet imaginable without enduring lasting success until they have yo-yo’d themselves into obesity. Before GLP-1s, there were few options that truly worked so one could practice healthy eating. It’s not for everyone but don’t knock it for the ones that get much needed help from it. I agree that it should not be a vanity drug for those just overweight, but for those who lack natural GLP-1s in their system and have been wrongly pushed into obesity, the opportunity to reduce food noise, begin eating healthy and lose weight is truly amazing.

Respectfully, I don't think it's magic. It's fixing my insulin issues and helping the part of my brain that is obsessed with food.
I said people that don't deal with this don't understand, and I fully believe that. Those of us who have struggled with food obsession for decades are relieved to have a break from the nonstop thoughts, and the nonstop shame. I started out at over 340 pounds because my mind would never leave me alone. I don't expect people who have not experienced this to understand.

I wish I could say this. But I have been so nauseous and gross feeling to eat much of anything, even when I do feel hungry. So I'm just tired and feeling gross, which has made my whole body hurt. I've lost some weight but Idk if it's worth feeling like this. I'm giving it 1 more week, then I'm over it.
My husband has had zero side effects tho, and says he is hurting less.

Most people I know who have taken it, have struggled their whole lives with weight. They've made lifestyle changes, counted calories, worked out, done all the things, and the scale barely moves. There are people who have legit medical issues like PCOS or other genetic issues who do all the things and it just doesn't work. So for those people it kind of is a magic shot. When you have tried everything else, and put in the work, and it's not working, it's ok to take the help. If meds of any sort aren't for you, thats cool. But it's not ok to judge others who do take meds, whether its pain meds, herbal, or this, just because it's not for you.

Wegovy is dangerous, apparently. It can cause gastroparesis, and people are suing the manufacturer.
That is a rare side effect. I am not on that one, I'm on Mounjaro, but my diabetes can also cause gastroparesis.
I'm down 100 pounds, off of my high blood pressure medicine, and my A1C is great, so its working well for me with no side effects.

WOW! So glad you were able to recover so much of your health. Congrats on your weight loss and I’m glad Ozempic/Wegovy is working so well for you. 👍🎉
