weekly rate?

Any 7 night period. Ex - Check in Monday at 4PM. Checkout 11AM the following Monday.
Hope that helps.

The points are per night, the weekly posted amount is for reference. If you cross from one 'season' to another, the points are calculated per night based on the season. Say 3 night in magic and 4 nights in dream, not the posted weekly total.

There's no weekly rate, only a daily rate. The 'weekly' thing in the point charts is just an example, since that's the length of time a lot of people stay. It's just the total points for two weekend nights and five weekday nights, within that season.

I just wanted to get a general idea of the cost of what it is to rent for a week. I have found that yes it is better to go through a member but needed some kind of reference number so I don't sit and play games with the owner.

There are all kinds of point calculators and the point charts each year are available out there so you can know exactly what the point requirements are for the reservation you want to rent. No need to "play games" with an owner - not that I've noticed that much if at all as the info is very easily available to anyone. The only thing you can't know is availability.

Knowing how my husband works when it comes to numbers he would sit on something and play with the numbers while the poor owner might have others asking for a unit. I don't want to do that to an owner or someone else who is ready to just say yes or no.

But doing what you're worried about is impossible. Each night of the year has a price for each given unit. You can't finagle it. If you want a studio at OKW for January 3-7 2017, you just look it up and find out that point cost for those nights, and that's it. He can't fiddle with it and the owner can't pad it.

Using the calculators *ahead of time* is exactly what you should be doing. If you find that your intended dates are partially in the cheapest season and partially in the next higher season, and you don't want that and have flexibility, then you can change your dates to be all in the cheapest. And then you contact the owner and you're told "yes" or "no" to availability. No finagling or anything like that. Easy.

My husband would STILL fiddle with the numbers. Between all the options we have of either getting 3 mod rooms for a rate we are looking at to going into a 2 bed room villa..trust me on this one I need to have as much information as possible when we are finally able to move on this that all he is doing is saying yes or no. So that is why I am asking so we can make the right choices. Plus with the rates he needs to figure out how much each person would owe us. So if we have a "general" idea of what we are looking at he can inform people what their portion "could" cost them give or take a bit.

It sounds like you are bringing a group who will reimburse you for rooms. And it sounds like your husband is a stickler. I'd like to offer some unsolicited advice. Don't rent DVC.

A DVC room is priced great as a rental, but its likely to be non-refundable. What a LOT of us owners have learned over the years of bringing friends is that plans fall through. We invite people, book the room, and then "oh, Maggie has a soccer tournament" We are left holding the bag on an extra room - or one too big for us. With notice, owners can make this work - sometimes - but renters are usually on a non-refundable contract. You husband can determine how much value to put on refundability. But with friends, I'd recommend putting a lot of value there.

(We have owned for fifteen years, and have brought guests half a dozen times. We have never managed to take the configuration of people as originally planned. But this August looks promising - its July and none of our guests has backed out. Our guests have had great excuses - pregnancy, rehab, cancer, my BIL had passed away before the trip.)

DVC is priced great - but you have to understand what you are getting. A studio will have a queen bed and a full pullout. If you, or your friends, value two beds - the bargain that is DVC starts to fade. DVC doesn't have daily housekeeping - if you value fresh towels and someone making your bed every day, the bargain starts to fade. When we bring guests, we always pay for the room - but even then we've gotten the "we don't get fresh towels every day!" complaint from our guests. And we book a room with a washer and dryer, so we are getting fresh towels every day - we just have to wash them ourselves.

DVC is priced great as a rental - but the best deals do not have a lot of availability and book very quickly. When reviewing point charts, don't count on an Animal Kingdom Value Room, a BLT Standard View room or a BWV Standard View room. You might get lucky - its worth asking - but its not worth counting on in your planning. If you are counting on getting multiple rooms because you have friends coming, its even harder.

We know we will take a brunt of the cost. We have plenty of time to figure out numbers and all (or a general number) before we even book anything cause we don't even know what is going on with my husbands job. We won't even know if we can go till spring of 2017 and the idea will be pushed you cannot back out of the room thing...which is why we are telling his family NOW so they can plan and talk about weather they can really go or not. Once we know everything will move fast and which is why my husband and I are doing the planning since none of these people have been to disney.

Any tid-bit of information of things will help when it comes to talking to his family so they understand what they are getting.

last time I did a villa it was booked through disney by my sister and we all just logged onto our accounts and paid our portions.

You won't know until Spring of 2017 if you can go, when are you planning on going? That will make a big difference in the tidbits we can help with.

we are looking to go in Oct of 2017 but I have been reading lots of post on here and researching all sorts of post and websites.

I'd just suggest forgetting DVC rentals if you want Oct but won't be able to commit until Spring sometime. DVC starts booking 11 months out and mid-Sept thru Dec are it's busiest times. There will be little, if anything left for options for Oct by 7 months. SSR is the most likely but even that isn't a guarantee if you need multiple rooms or particular dates.

Never hurts to try.

But if everyone has the belief it will cost $X, and then you can't get DVC, you're stuck trying to go through why it costs $Y.

If you try to book in spring for October, you will possibly be able to get Saratoga or OKW. There is a slight chance of AKV. Everywhere else will have holes, and, heck, this year at a week past 7 months even Saratoga had holes.

Don't go thinking you will get BLT, VGF, BCV or BWV (especially not the latter two). Not at 7 months, not after 7 months.

The Rent/Trade board is full of people looking for this fall right now, and a lot of owners saying "too late, want spring 2017?"
