weekly rate?

But if everyone has the belief it will cost $X, and then you can't get DVC, you're stuck trying to go through why it costs $Y.

If you try to book in spring for October, you will possibly be able to get Saratoga or OKW. There is a slight chance of AKV. Everywhere else will have holes, and, heck, this year at a week past 7 months even Saratoga had holes.

Don't go thinking you will get BLT, VGF, BCV or BWV (especially not the latter two). Not at 7 months, not after 7 months.

The Rent/Trade board is full of people looking for this fall right now, and a lot of owners saying "too late, want spring 2017?"

I get that, I really do. But it really never hurts to try. Worst case is someone will tell me "its too late, sorry" I have back up plans too which will be talked about with all who are being informed about the trip.

Worst case is that you get no response at all. If owners know the time period is tight, they may not choose to waste their time responding to your request. There are far easier reservations to deal with than someone looking for October in the Spring - and far easier renters to work with than someone looking for a reservation they know is difficult. And no shortage of people looking to rent.

I have Boardwalk Villa points and I have rented them. I won't touch renting them in October with a ten foot pole - even at eleven months. Its just way easier to deal with someone who wants a reservation between February and September than someone who wants one that last quarter - and the rental rate is the same. So when I rented mine, I make them available eleven months out from September - they were long gone before I had to worry about an October rental.

(I also think its nicer to my fellow members not to rent BWV points over Food and Wine - since the money is the same, I can rent at any other time of year and leave that really popular time available for members).

OK so the worst case is I don't hear from the owner. Which I fully understand. Im not putting all my eggs in one basket right now. I am researching right now.

I should add: Since apparently cost is a thing with your spouse, you will not get either of the two cheapest units at DVC without a pre-11 month booking for October, those being BWV Standard View, and AKV Value. You also won't get BLT Standard. That's true year-round, but October is especially futile.

So even if you're using optimism, don't use any absolutely hopeless optimism and price those.

I switched my 11-month booking for October at 7 months this year. It was pretty amazing to watch how availability went ka-blooie by 10:30AM that day.

Cost is a thing for most people....why its a major thing with him is so others can afford to come. Its a bit pricy for his family to travel from Oregon/Washington to FL for a week. His brother's don't exactly have money to spend when ever. I honestly don't think one of his brothers will come cause he will probably think Disney is for well nicer terms dorks and losers. We know his mom is planning on coming. But we try to not let her spend too much.

We won't even move on ANYTHING weather we go into a regular type room until the military deal if it gets released. So we are literally in the research phase right now and getting a GENERAL give/take ball park of the cost so we can let others know what the general number might be for them.

My point is don't base the ball park on Value or Standard units. In concert terms, they're like GA seats, and unless you're there three days before, they're not going to be an option. Don't promise everyone "we'll be so close the band sweats on us!" if you can't sleep on the curb, basically.

And in timeshare terms, "sleep on the curb for GA" = 11 month booking for the lowest-point rooms (BWV Standard, AKV Value, BLT Standard).

I may have missed if you've researched which resorts and room types are most likely to be available for Oct at 7 months or less? There are some rooms that you pretty much can just skip over as a consideration. If you haven't run across this thread you can get some idea of where the hope might be although also keep in mind that this was a snapshot of one year and even this year was slightly different and appeared to be even more difficult for Oct and some of the Opens or Mostlys on this chart weren't necessarily following this pattern: http://www.disboards.com/threads/pr...-some-1-bedrooms-vgc-update-10-21-15.3419112/

I think we're all just suggesting that while you can research it as a cost effective option that you really downplay the possibility since our experience say the odds are against it. Assuming it does seem to be a lower cost option then at least your group will only be pleasantly surprised to get the savings vs thinking it has a high chance of happening.

For the last hour because of reading all and thinking this I have felt there is no point in going now.

I don't even know if the other 9 people on my list of who we are inviting are going to want to even go. I already have enough doubt in this trip cause my husband could be deployed by the time we go. Which is why I am just trying to do research on all aspects so when we are ready to proceed we go to plan A. If that doesn't work here is Plan B...and if that doesn't work here is plan C.

Plan, but don't count on DVC working out. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. And don't set your heart on it - you are talking about a low probability high risk situation. If the numbers only work with a DVC rental, then the chances of this working at that time of year with that short of notice are not great. Price it out at the values or moderate, or offsite (Windsor Hills can be a great deal). Price out DVC using SSR, its the most likely to be available - and use the preferred points - low cost DVC options are booked first.

Planning for a large group is daunting on it's own. And with uncertain commitments and your DH having deployment possibilities that makes it even more difficult. From the info that has come out my best suggestion that gives the best flexibility will be to look at rooms thru CRO and to consider the moderates or values too as well as check on the military discount. As I understand it military tickets are bought onsite (?) or are at least separate vouchers so packages aren't really on the radar so that's a plus that room only is probably the thing you were looking at as there is greater flexibility. Then things can be changed if someone can't make it. And I'm sure that's one of the plans you have.

DVC - both owning and renting - won't work for all and that's ok. Or, if there are some in your group that can firmly commit then try to work with the DVC rental and do cash reservations for others that are iffy.

Sorry that our news about that time of the year is such a downer - it often is for many owners too - and other times of the year our recommendations would be completely different. It just happens it's a super crazy popular time for owners to go and now your research has gotten that info. Better to know now than counting on it happening, right? Might be disappointing but there are still lots of ways to stay at Disney. ::yes:: Off site can be a great option too!

The trip has now been turned off.

I wasn't asking when is a good time to go. I know that it has gotten much busier and harder to get things for Oct. I just wanted a basic answer so I could see what we were getting into if we needed to go that way. I am not even counting on going into a villa because I doubt several of the people who would have been asked to go won't show in the first place.
