Can anyone give me some suggestions on where to go? Looking for a quick get away for this summer to take our two year old. We live in Niagara Falls, NY looking for some where that is less than a days drive away and spend a couple nights, somewhere within a few hours away would be best, So I guess the area I'm looking at is Wester/central NY, Southern Ontario, Northwestern PA and Northeastern OH. Remember toddler friendly locations.

Great WOlf Lodge and Castaway Bay in Sandusky, Ohio. They are indoor waterparks. My DS was there around 18 months and then again just after he turned 2. He loved it. They both are pretty good. We liked GW better but Castaway Bay has dance parties with Snoopy and bedtime stories with him too .

How about the indoor water park in Erie PA? We pass it all the time driving to Ohio and it looks like fun. The only one who wants to go though is my 13 year old.

I've never been to Splash Lagoon in Erie Pa ~ but it sounds like fun

What about someplace like Pittsbugh? Its about a 4 hour drive and there is Kennywood, which is a nice classic amusement park and a pretty decent zoo. I believe the zoo is in the same family as the Buffalo Zoo so if you have a membership, your admission would be free there

Yes ~ Pittsburgh....Why didn't I think of that?

Sandcastle Water Park is near Kennywood.
Also the Carnegie Science Center, Zoo, Childrens Museum....you could definately spend a few days.

Rochester and the Strong Museum. My son gave it a huge :thumbsup2

Dinner at Dinosaur's!

Great idea! Any other things around rochester to do or cool themed resturants?

How about Hershey, PA?? It's a really nice place, plus it's close to Lancaster, PA, and some other fun places... We were just at the Willow Valley Resort in PA for a few days and it was fun - I've also heard GREAT things about Great Wolf Lodge.

And, if you're in the Lancaster area and your 2 year old is into trains, you could do Day out with Thomas at Strasburg railroad

Saratoga/Lake George would be a lot of fun. There is a great children's museum in saratoga, you could do breakfast with the horses at the track if you go in late july/august. you can go visit the track and watch the horses warm up for free...you can eat breakfast there or bring something in. we did this a lot when we lived there and my kids loved it. Congress park in Saratoga is beautiful and has a wonderful old carousel that I swear we rode every weekend it was open, or close to it.

Rochester also has the Seneca Park Zoo. It's a nice moderately sized zoo which is easily managable. We've been there three times now and my son seems to love the "you can be a vet" portion near the rear of the park. If you've got young kids, I highly suggest you get a family membership at your local zoo. Most of the zoos we've come across have reciprical agreements allowing you free or half priced admission at virtually any other zoo. With our membership at Akron's Zoo, we've visited Toledo, Cincinnatti, Columbus, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Seneca Park (Rochester), etc... It's a great deal.

We usually don't stay in Rochester itself -- we typically stay around Canandaigua and go during Naples' Grape Festival Weekend. We always go early, stock up on our jellies for the year and enjoy the rest of the weekend at places like Casa de Pasta or the Lincoln Hill Inn.

Another vote for Pittsburgh - LOTS of great stuff down here.

If you come this way we'll have to have that Pittsburgh DIS meet that we keep talking about.

My kids are 4 and 8 and they love:

Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium, Children's Museum, Science Center, Kennywood, Sandcastle, Idlewild, lots of good children's theatre, NorthPark clubhouse (a wonderful restaurant with kid's games and prizes),.....

We'd love to help show you around if you travel south!

ITA with this suggestion -- we've been to Splash Lagoon (DS was 3 at the time) and that's all he ever talks about when we go to Erie (where my family lives). Plus, if you go in the summer, you can also make a trip to Presque Isle and go to the beach, take a bike ride, etc. :)
