Weekend Riddle # 1

Hi all you weekend riddlers!

Heres a fun one to think about

Its a little bit of logic and a little bit of math.. (but not too much!)

Here we go.....(please pm your answers!)



There are 4 men who want to cross a bridge.
They all begin on the same side.
You have 17 minutes to get all of them across to the other side.

It is night. There is one flashlight. A maximum of two people can cross at one time.
Any party who crosses, either 1 or 2 people, must have the flashlight with them.
The flashlight must be walked back and forth, it cannot be thrown, etc.
Each man walks at a different speed.
A pair must walk together at a rate of the slower man's pace.


Man 1: 1 minute to cross.
Man 2: 2 minutes to cross.
Man 3: 5 minutes to cross.
Man 4: 10 minutes to cross.

For example, if Man 1 and Man 4 walk across first, 10 minutes have elapsed when they get to the other side of the bridge.
If Man 4 returns with the flashlight, a total of 20 minutes have passed, and you have failed the mission.

Good Morning.


Only four men could make crossing a bridge so difficult.

Hand the flashlight to a woman who will cross, head to the Walmart, buy 4 more flashlights and get all the men across. All this will be done in about 10 mins.


That's my answer and I am sticking to it. Because all those men and minutes are way too complicated for me this AM!

Lou I was thinking the same thing. It takes moere tha 17 minutes going thogh the check out at Wal-mart most days.

Hey, you stole my answer.


and the way I look at it...if we're on the other side of the bridge....no problem.....


let them figure it out....or drown trying.....I for one will be down the road a bit, swimming in the waterfalls......

Wow, I am having a hard time trying to wrap my brain around this one.

I think that I will just forget the riddle and go on a hunt for Q items for the Q exchange. That riddle just might be a little bit easier to solve
