:goodvibesHi everybody, I have a question about a DFTW being on a weekday. The date we are planning to get married falls on a Tuesday and my mother is already giving me a hard time, and saying that we cant have a destination wedding on a week day. She thinks we have to have it on a weekend to make it more convenient, or people wont come. I figure we are are inviting all family pretty much so they will come regardless of the day, and wont most people take a few days off work and make at least a mini-vacation out of it anyways? Any opinions? What would you do? Thanks!

I felt the same way at first but because of the cost difference I had to have mine on a weekday. What I am learning through all this is you just have to do what makes you happy you can not please everyone. And you can not be mad at anyone if they decide they can not come. We let everyone know we understand if they can not come and I am having a reception when I get home so those who could not make it can be apart of our new marriage. Good luck planning!!!:thumbsup2

I think you should do it on the date that you want to do it. If you give everyone enough notice they should be able to work with you. And, I believe that everyone will understand that the date you picked is a special date with meaning to the both of you.

(Besides, don't the costs go up if you do it on the weekend? If finances are tight it might save you a little money to do it during the week. And, if for some reason there is some sort of snafu and you need to make a last minute trip to a store at least you won't have to worry about stores being closed for the weekend.)

hope this helps.

My wedding date is on a Wednesday and we figure the people who come are the people who love us. Remember, the people who do matter, won't matter. I say, it's your day and your hubby's day, do what feels right to you because if you try to accommodate other people you guys will not be happy at the end. You do not want to look back and regret something. Plus it's so much less to have a weekday wedding and people can make it a vacation.

So enjoy your Valentine's Day Wedding!!!!

Hope this helps...:thumbsup2

So anyways, the year we are planning to get married this day falls on a Tuesday and my mother is already giving me a hard time, and saying that we cant have a destination wedding on a week day. She thinks we have to have it on a weekend to make it more convenient, or people wont come.

Tell your mom that airline flights are cheapest on Wednesdays, followed by Tuesdays and Saturdays. If people fly out for your wedding on Saturday and go home on Wednesday (rather than Friday to Sunday for a weekend wedding), you are actually saving them money by having a Tuesday wedding! :cutie:

Also, if you are planning on having a Wishes Collection event, your minimum expenditure will be cheaper because it's a Tuesday, unless they jack up the prices on certain things because it's Valentine's Day like they do at Christmas....

We planned 2 weddings on Tuesdays - the first one got postponed a year. Both times EVERYONE we invited came and spent the week - they all looked at it as a great reason to do a Disney trip. We had 40 planning to attend the first time and 20 the second - most of whom went both times (our first wedding got postponed on really short notice, so most still went on the trip even though we didn't get married). If it was another destination I'd say the weekend might matter, but for Disney, I really don't think it does. We stuck with Tuesdays thinking that if people only wanted to come for the wedding they could get away with a half week off work, but in the end they all came for at least 5 nights, most 6 or more.

We got married on a Monday, although all our family who came stayed in Florida for two or three weeks, so the wedding was one week after they flew out. The way we looked at it was that the date meant something to us, and as everyone would be on holiday it didn't really matter what day of the week we actually married on!

I agree with everyone else. You need to have it on a day that suits you. We're getting married on a wednesday. For us its convenient as our guests will be coming for at least a week due to the distance. As well as saving on flights and wedding costs, your guests will also probably find the parks are less crowded during the week and room rates will probably be lower during the week too :thumbsup2 (although as its Valentines Day this might not apply)!

:goodvibesHi everybody, I have a question about a DFTW being on a weekday. My fiance and I have been together for 5 1/2 years and he first asked me to be his girlfriend on Valentines Day, so that has been our anniversary for the past five years. We have always both said we wanted to get married on Valentines Day both because it is a romantic day and because we want to keep it as our anniversary! So anyways, the year we are planning to get married this day falls on a Tuesday and my mother is already giving me a hard time, and saying that we cant have a destination wedding on a week day. My mom says we should have it the weekend before and then just celebrate it on Valentines Day anyways after that, but I really dont like the idea of that. Any opinions? What would you do? Thanks!

Don't listen to your mom! It's your wedding, you can do what you want! We are having ours on a weekday because a) our photography package is cheaper this way and b) it works with the honeymoon cruise we booked. Everyone who is coming has plenty of time (now 7 months) to take off from work, arrange for travel/hotel, etc. As long as you give people enough time, I don't see the problem. Plus, it's Disney, most people aren't going to just go for the weekend. I think the fact that it is a destination wedding makes it easier to have it on a weekday.

We're planning a Monday (but it may get postponed) while it is Labor Day we've only had one person say we're being inconsiderate of our guests, we weren't even planning on inviting this person anyway, so it's okay.

I'd like to have my wedding on a Friday, but the mins are still higher then we want to spend so we're going to end up having our wedding on a weekday and celebrating on a different day.

I'm having mine on a Monday because 1) it's cheaper, and 2) it's the first day of April vacation in Massachusetts and my DF, mom, brother, and one of my aunts are all teachers. Still tho', everyone else besides them has "regular" jobs, so they will be taking time off and it hasn't been a problem yet. 50 people are planning on coming, and only one couple couldn't do it because of the timing.

Mine will be on a monday as well. Almost everyone I'm inviting is either a teacher or works for the school district so we will all be on vacation at the same time, and my wedding day is the first day of xmas vacation. I didn't want to take away their christmas so I made it for Dec. 20, 2010, so everyone can leave the next day and still enjoy their xmas recess.

I think because it's a destination, the day of week doesn't really matter so much since people will have to take time off to go anyway. As my MOH said, it's Disney, days don't matter ;). Our wedding is going to be on a Tuesday and we haven't had any complaints about it. I had originally wanted a Monday but DFBIL and DFSIL's wedding anniversary was that day. The people that really want to be at your wedding will find a way to be there no matter what.

We wanted to do it on a weekday (not only because minimums are lower) but we also wanted to be able to spend plenty of time with our guests since the whole idea is that we'll all be in Disney together and we'll be able to share something we really love with all of them.

We have had a few comments about it being in August, but we had to do that based on work and school schedules.

The bottom line is you need to do what is right for you, it's your wedding day.

I had my wedding on a Monday. In my opinion any day during a vacation is like a weekend.

Thanks so much everyone for your advice! Glad to know I have some others who aggree with me, and that I am not being unreasonable. I just hope my guests will think so too!

I think when you are going away for a wedding that it doesn't matter what day you do it. Everyone will most likely make it as a mini vacation (or a full one) anyways, so they will be there already. My vacations are one big weekend anyways.... I plan on having mine on a Tuesday as well, so I think it is a great idea! :)

Good luck with the plans! and congrats!

We had our wedding on a wednesday for the date that my DH had chosen and it worked out just fine! Most people except for like 2 were coming from out of town so they made a vacation out of it. Good luck with trying to get the V-Day date though! I'm sure it'll be busy and just so you know we originally looked into a holiday and were told any days that were either a holiday or days like 9-9-9 and such were literally 3 times the amount! So instead of the 10,000 minimum that was required for a weekday originally it was going to be 30,000 ! FYI!

I'm not sure if it's changed, but I asked about the holiday thing. Since we're using Labor Day and considered 10-10-10 and a couple other holidays including New Year's Eve.We were told that there is no extra charge for a holiday. I asked about 4 months ago.

That's true for the minimums but certain aspects of your wedding like the DJ and venue rental fee may be more. Like at xmas DJ's are almost double the price. I was even told that the catering might even have a premium charge on it because there are so many other things going on throughout WDW.

We are also doing a weekday wedding (Wednesday). The only people that minded were a few family members that were teachers and insisted they weren't allowed to take time off during the school year.
